This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of the project, as they were formulated in the proposal, are the following: (1) Design and development of novel electro-optic modulator using single crystalline film of highly efficient electro-optic organic material integrated with prism coupler; (2) Experimental characterization of the figures-of-merit of the modulator. It is expected to perform with an extinction ratio of 10 dB at a driving signal of 5 V; (3) Conclusions on feasibility of the modulator as an element of data communication systems of future generations. The accomplishments of the project are the following: (1) The design of the electro-optic modulator based on a single crystalline film of organic material NPP has been explored; (2) The evaluation of the figures-of-merit of the electro-optic modulator has been performed; (3) Based on the results of characterization of the figures-of-merit, the conclusion was made that the modulator based on a thin film of NPP is feasible and has a great potential of being used in optic communication with a modulation bandwidth of up to 100 GHz and a driving voltage of the order of 3 to 5 V.Sarkisov, Sergey S.Marshall Space Flight CenterCOUPLERS; DATA TRANSMISSION; ELECTRO-OPTICS; MODULATORS; WAVEGUIDES; OPTICAL COMMUNICATION; BANDWIDTH; MODULATION; ORGANIC MATERIALS; SINGLE CRYSTALS; THIN FILMS; PRISMS

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Optical Waveguides by : Katsunari Okamoto
Download or read book Fundamentals of Optical Waveguides written by Katsunari Okamoto and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-08-04 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Optical Waveguides is an essential resource for any researcher, professional or student involved in optics and communications engineering. Any reader interested in designing or actively working with optical devices must have a firm grasp of the principles of lightwave propagation. Katsunari Okamoto has presented this difficult technology clearly and concisely with several illustrations and equations. Optical theory encompassed in this reference includes coupled mode theory, nonlinear optical effects, finite element method, beam propagation method, staircase concatenation method, along with several central theorems and formulas. Since the publication of the well-received first edition of this book, planar lightwave circuits and photonic crystal fibers have fully matured. With this second edition the advances of these fibers along with other improvements on existing optical technologies are completely detailed. This comprehensive volume enables readers to fully analyze, design and simulate optical atmospheres. - Exceptional new chapter on Arrayed-Waveguide Grating (AWG) - In-depth discussion of Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCFs) - Thorough explanation of Multimode Interference Devices (MMI) - Full coverage of polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of nonlinear optics emerged three decades ago with the development of the first operating laser and the demonstration of frequency doubling phenomena. These milestone discoveries not only generated much interest in laser science, but also set the stage for future work on nonlinear optics. This book presents an excellent overview of the exciting new advances in nonlinear optical (NLO) materials and their applications in emerging photonics technologies. It is the first reference source available to cover every NLO material published through 1995. All theoretical approaches, measurement techniques, materials, technologies, and applications are covered. With more than 1,800 bibliographic citations, 324 figures, 218 tables, and 812 equations, this book is an invaluable reference source for graduate and undergraduate students, researchers, scientists and engineers working in academia and industries in chemistry, solid-state physics, materials science, optical and polymer engineering, and computational science.

Book Synopsis Interfaces in Particle and Fibre Reinforced Composites by : Kheng-Lim Goh
Download or read book Interfaces in Particle and Fibre Reinforced Composites written by Kheng-Lim Goh and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interfaces in Particle and Fibre-Reinforced Composites: From Macro- to Nanoscale addresses recent research findings on the particle-matrix interface at different length scales. The book's main focus is on the reinforcement of materials by particles that can result in a composite material of high stiffness and strength, but it also focuses on how the particle interacts with the (matrix) material, which may be a polymer, biological-based material, ceramic or conventional metal. The different types of particle reinforced composites are discussed, as is load transfer at the particle-matrix interface. Readers will learn how to select materials and about particle structure. Significant progress has been made in applying these approaches, thus making this book a timely piece on recent research findings on the particle-matrix interface at different length scales. - Features wide coverage, from polymer, to ceramics and metal-based particulate composites - Structured in a logical order to cover fundamental studies, computer simulations, experimental techniques and characterization
