Book Synopsis Photoelastic and Electro-Optic Properties of Crystals by : T. S. Narasimhamurty
Download or read book Photoelastic and Electro-Optic Properties of Crystals written by T. S. Narasimhamurty and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive treatise reviews, for the first time, all the essential work over the past 160 years on the photoelastic and the closely related linear and quadratic electro-optic effects in isotropic and crystalline mate rials. Emphasis is placed on the phenomenal growth of the subject during the past decade and a half with the advent of the laser, with the use of high-frequency acousto-optic and electro-optic techniques, and with the discovery of new piezoelectric materials, all of which have offered a feedback to the wide interest in these two areas of solid-state physics. The first of these subjects, the photoelastic effect, was discovered by Sir David Brewster in 1815. He first found the effect in gels and subsequently found it in glasses and crystals. While the effect remained of academic interest for nearly a hundred years, it became of practical value when Coker and Filon applied it to measuring stresses in machine parts. With one photograph and subsequent analysis, the stress in any planar model can be determined. By taking sections of a three-dimensional model, complete three-dimensional stresses can be found. Hence this effect is widely applied in industry.
Book Synopsis Electro-Fenton Process by : Minghua Zhou
Download or read book Electro-Fenton Process written by Minghua Zhou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the theoretical fundamentals and potential applications of the original electro-Fenton (EF) process and its most innovative and promising versions, all of which are classified as electrochemical advanced oxidation processes. It consists of 15 chapters that review the latest advances and trends, material selection, reaction and reactor modeling and EF scale-up. It particularly focuses on the applications of EF process in the treatment of toxic and persistent organic pollutants in water and soil, showing highly efficient removal for both lab-scale and pre-pilot setups. Indeed, the EF technology is now mature enough to be brought to market, and this collection of contributions from leading experts in the field constitutes a timely milestone for scientists and engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water Photo- and Electro-Catalysis Introduce yourself to the cutting-edge processes of water photo- and electro-catalysis with this important guide Photocatalysis and electrocatalysis reactions involving water are becoming an increasingly important component of energy and sustainability research. Water electrocatalysis and photo-electrocatalysis promise to have a significant impact on human energy production and its by-products, and to play a substantial role in solutions to global energy and environmental crises. Familiarity with these processes will be critical for sustainable energy production in the coming years. Water Photo- and Electro-Catalysis provides a detailed and readable introduction to these processes and their attendant technologies. It covers mechanisms, materials, and devices that catalyze water-based energy conversion, as well as introducing the theoretical principles that are driving the development of new technologies in this area. The result is an essential book for researchers and materials scientists in a range of fields. Water Photo- and Electro-Catalysis readers will also find: An editorial team with decades of combined experience in energy and materials science research Detailed treatment of electrocatalysis processes for hydrogen evolution (HER), oxygen/hydrogen peroxide evolution (OER/HPER), and more Analysis of mechanisms including heterogenous vs. homogenous photocatalysis, electrodes-based photo-electrocatalysis, and photovoltaic-electrocatalysis Water Photo- and Electro-Catalysis is a valuable reference for catalytic chemists, materials scientists, energy chemists, and all research and industry professionals in photo(electro)catalysis and sustainable energy fields.
