Book Synopsis Forecasting U.S. Electricity Demand by : Adela Maria Bolet
Download or read book Forecasting U.S. Electricity Demand written by Adela Maria Bolet and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the energy headlines of 1985 proclaim the waning of OPEC, the collapse of oil prices, and the demise of the nuclear power industry, few policy analysts are examining the dynamic challenges and opportunities that may confront the electric power industry during the remainder of this century. In this pioneering work, Adela Maria Bolet attempts to do exactly this, namely, to reconcile the differences among forecasters as to the future of electricity demand in the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.
Book Synopsis Electricity's Future by : Christopher Flavin
Download or read book Electricity's Future written by Christopher Flavin and published by Sterling/Main Street. This book was released on 1984 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electricity, which has largely supplanted oil as the most controversial energy issue of the 1980s, is at the center of some of the world's bitterest economic and environmental controversies. Soaring costs, high interest rates, and environmental damage caused by large power plants have wreaked havoc on the once booming electricity industry. Although policymakers around the world disagree vigorously about future trends and appropriate policies, virtually all acknowledge that a turning point has been reached. This document discusses: (1) past practices and trends leading to problems related to electric power generation and the electrical industry in the United States and foreign countries (including developing nations); (2) innovations and advances in the electrical industry related to the growth of electricity; (3) the rush to small-scale energy production and cogeneration (the combined production of heat and power), led not by utilities but by large industrial companies building their own power systems and small firms created to tap new energy sources such as wind power and geothermal energy; (4) the role of energy efficient products and practices as a power source; and (5) electricity's future. Book Synopsis Global Energy Market Trends by : Anco S. Blazev
Download or read book Global Energy Market Trends written by Anco S. Blazev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 1066 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As discussed in this text, countries with excess energy resources export these to countries that need them. This is an important function of the global energy markets, where energy sources, products and services are traded among countries and companies. While this is the primary activity in energy markets, it is only part of the entire global energy market scheme. The goal of this text is to analyze all sides of the energy markets in their physical, technological, economic, political, regulatory, environmental, financial, and legal aspects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smart Energy and Electric Power Systems: Current Trends and New Intelligent Perspectives reviews key applications of intelligent algorithms and machine learning techniques to increasingly complex and data-driven power systems with distributed energy resources to enable evidence-driven decision-making and mitigate catastrophic power shortages. The book reviews foundations towards the integration of machine learning and smart power systems before addressing key challenges and issues. The work then explores AI- and ML-informed techniques to rebalancing of supply and demand. Methods discussed include distributed energy resources and prosumer markets, electricity demand prediction, component fault detection, and load balancing. Security solutions are introduced, along with potential solutions to cyberattacks, security data detection and critical loads in power systems. The work closes with a lengthy discussion, informed by case studies, on integrating AI and ML into the modern energy sector. - Helps improve the prediction capability of AI algorithms to make evidence-based decisions in the smart supply of electricity, including load shedding - Focuses on how to integrate AI and ML into the energy sector in the real-world, with many chapters accompanied by case studies - Addresses a number of proven AI and ML- informed techniques in rebalancing supply and demand

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential overview of post-deregulation market operations inelectrical power systems Until recently the U.S. electricity industry was dominated byvertically integrated utilities. It is now evolving into adistributive and competitive market driven by market forces andincreased competition. With electricity amounting to a $200 billionper year market in the United States, the implications of thisrestructuring will naturally affect the rest of the world. Why is restructuring necessary? What are the components ofrestructuring? How is the new structure different from the oldmonopoly? How are the participants strategizing their options tomaximize their revenues? What are the market risks and how are theyevaluated? How are interchange transactions analyzed and approved?Starting with a background sketch of the industry, this hands-onreference provides insights into the new trends in power systemsoperation and control, and highlights advanced issues in thefield. Written for both technical and nontechnical professionals involvedin power engineering, finance, and marketing, this must-haveresource discusses: * Market structure and operation of electric power systems * Load and price forecasting and arbitrage * Price-based unit commitment and security constrained unitcommitment * Market power analysis and game theory applications * Ancillary services auction market design * Transmission pricing and congestion Using real-world case studies, this timely survey offers engineers, consultants, researchers, financial managers, university professorsand students, and other professionals in the industry acomprehensive review of electricity restructuring and how itsradical effects will shape the market.

Book Synopsis Electric Power Research Trends by : Michael C. Schmidt
Download or read book Electric Power Research Trends written by Michael C. Schmidt and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is becoming increasingly electrified. For the foreseeable future, coal will continue to be the dominant fuel used for electric power production. The low cost and abundance of coal is one of the primary reasons for this. Electric power transmission, a process in the delivery of electricity to consumers, is the bulk transfer of electrical power. Typically, power transmission is between the power plant and a substation near a populated area. Electricity distribution is the delivery from the substation to the consumers. Due to the large amount of power involved, transmission normally takes place at high voltage (110 kV or above). Electricity is usually transmitted over long distance through overhead power transmission lines. Underground power transmission is used only in densely populated areas due to its high cost of installation and maintenance, and because the high reactive power gain produces large charging currents and difficulties in voltage management. A power transmission system is sometimes referred to colloquially as a "grid"; however, for reasons of economy, the network is rarely a true grid. Redundant paths and lines are provided so that power can be routed from any power plant to any load centre, through a variety of routes, based on the economics of the transmission path and the cost of power. Much analysis is done by transmission companies to determine the maximum reliable capacity of each line, which, due to system stability considerations, may be less than the physical or thermal limit of the line. Deregulation of electricity companies in many countries has led to renewed interest in reliable economic design of transmission networks. This new book presents leading-edge research on electric power and its generation, transmission and efficiency.
