It will help you become that rarity - a Wise Elder, a Joyous Elder. This guidebook is for you who yearn for the happiness, enthusiasm, and centeredness our later years can provide us. Elderhood is full of aliveness, joy, and creativity; our birthright. Join me on this journey. Use this book to coach yourself to live a life you love. Your family will be better for it and you will leave a more powerful legacy. And the world will be a better place because you have lived. This is a book that needed to be written, and that needs to be read, not just by old folks to understand better and feel better about their journey, but for anyone who has a serious interest in contributing to our global society in general. That we've mostly lost the concept of elders contributing to the world needs to be addressed and a healing force is needed. This book is a real treasure, a page-turner, brilliantly presented with potential international impact. The first part of the book provides the thesis of what it means to be an Elder and the second part presents the roadmap on how to become one. The writing is clear, easily readable by intellectuals as well as the "Everyman". The overall thesis of the book is well researched and enhanced by the candid inclusion of the author's relevant personal experiences.

Consequently, for us to truly see the value in the worth of a sound way of life as more established grown-ups, we really must recognize the progressions that happen inside us as we age. At the point when you know about the changes, then they won't amaze you. These life altering events are both physical and close to home. Inwardly, we battle with the deficiency of friends and family, our professions, and our autonomy. Truly, our bodies are not quite as energetic as when we were more youthful. Regardless of these changes, a quality and satisfying life is still inside our span. In this book, we take a gander at the lifestyle choices our life during our roughage days by keeping a solid way of life.

Book excerpt: George Burns once remarked, “You can't help getting older, but you can help getting old.” With twenty-five years of experience working with seniors and studying aging, the Erickson Corporation has amassed a wealth of insights that support this maxim. In Old Is the New Young, three leading specialists take the latest clinical research findings on aging and how to improve and maintain health to produce a one-of-a-kind book replete with easily accessible tools and simple steps that all those over fifty can apply to their own lives. Old is the New Young approaches aging as a three-part process: keeping what's intact; recovering what's been lost; and compensating when necessary. Weaving in inspiring life stories with plenty of laughs from seniors themselves, it comprises four sections that address the key aspects of life—mental, physical, social, and financial—and how to keep them thriving as we grow . . . young.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meeting the Needs of Older Adults with Serious Illness: Challenges and Opportunities in the Age of Health Care Reform provides an introduction to the principles of palliative care; describes current models of delivering palliative care across care settings, and examines opportunities in the setting of healthcare policy reform for palliative care to improve outcomes for patients, families and healthcare institutions. The United States is currently facing a crisis in health care marked by unsustainable spending and quality that is poor relative to international benchmarks. Yet this is also a critical time of opportunity. Because of its focus on quality of care, the Affordable Care Act is poised to expand access to palliative care services for the sickest, most vulnerable, and therefore most costly, 5% of patients- a small group who nonetheless drive about 50% of all healthcare spending. Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses. It focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness—whatever the diagnosis or stage of illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. Research has demonstrated palliative care’s positive impact on health care value. Patients (and family caregivers) receiving palliative care experience improved quality of life, better symptom management, lower rates of depression and anxiety, and improved survival. Because patient and family needs are met, crises are prevented, thereby directly reducing need for emergency department and hospital use and their associated costs. An epiphenomenon of better quality of care, the lower costs associated with palliative care have been observed in multiple studies. Meeting the Needs of Older Adults with Serious Illness: Challenges and Opportunities in the Age of Health Care Reform, a roadmap for effective policy and program design, brings together expert clinicians, researchers and policy leaders, who tackle key areas where real-world policy options to improve access to quality palliative care could have a substantial role in improving value.
