Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of Mexico’s revolution, artists played a fundamental role in constructing a national identity centered on working people and were hailed for their contributions to modern art. Picturing the Proletariat examines three aspects of this artistic legacy: the parallel paths of organized labor and artists’ collectives, the relations among these groups and the state, and visual narratives of the worker. Showcasing forgotten works and neglected media, John Lear explores how artists and labor unions participated in a cycle of revolutionary transformation from 1908 through the presidency of Lázaro Cárdenas (1934–1940). Lear shows how middle-class artists, radicalized by the revolution and the Communist Party, fortified the legacy of the prerevolutionary print artisan José Guadalupe Posada by incorporating modernist, avant-garde, and nationalist elements in ways that supported and challenged unions and the state. By 1940, the state undermined the autonomy of radical artists and unions, while preserving the image of both as partners of the “institutionalized revolution.” This interdisciplinary book explores the gendered representations of workers; the interplay of prints, photographs, and murals in journals, in posters, and on walls; the role of labor leaders; and the discursive impact of the Spanish Civil War. It considers “los tres grandes”—Rivera, Siquieros, and Orozco—while featuring lesser-known artists and their collectives, including Saturnino Herrán, Leopoldo Méndez, Santos Balmori, and the League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists (LEAR). The result is a new perspective on the art and politics of the revolution.

This approach helps readers better see the relevance of government in their lives. GATEWAYS uniquely incorporates policy into a section at the end of each chapter, helping readers better understand the connection between public opinion, policy-making and how public policy applies to their lives. The second edition, complete with 2012 election updates, emphasizes critical thinking by clearly outlining learning outcomes and enhancing learning with self-assessment "Checkpoints" and a clear chapter study plan. Chapters in this ESSENTIALS version are condensed to accommodate a shorter format but preserve the integrity of the text's hallmarks.

The relationship between present needs and future imperatives defines our contemporary challenges, especially within the realms of societal aspirations, business enterprises, startups, and SMEs. The dynamic nature of today's entrepreneurial landscape, characterized by ceaseless challenges and constant change, underscores the urgency to align strategies with the imperatives of sustainable development. Sustainable Partnership and Investment Strategies for Startups and SMEs examines this issue and the intersection between sustainable development and the practical nuances of navigating the modern entrepreneurial landscape. The book serves as a comprehensive scholarly source, providing in-depth insights into the challenges of formulating strategies for ventures within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From 'no poverty' to 'Partnerships for the Goals,' it scrutinizes the latest research, theoretical frameworks, and powerful approaches that lie at the heart of sustainable and responsible entrepreneurship. Against the backdrop of a constantly evolving world, the objective of the book comes to the forefront. Today's business and entrepreneurial practices grapple with an ever-changing environment, demanding contemporary and flexible business and investment strategies. Focusing on a select set of SDGs is not just a strategic imperative but a requirement for societal well-being and enduring business success.

This book was released on 2024-07-04 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report assesses and monitors progress in the design and implementation of SME policies in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region. It was developed as part of the OECD LAC Regional Programme, in co-operation with CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA). The 2024 report tracks progress made since 2019 across eight policy dimensions and presents the latest key findings on SME development and related policies. It identifies emerging challenges impacting SMEs in the region and provides recommendations for governments to build a successful SME sector. The 2024 edition, the second in the series, benefits from an updated methodology that analyses SME digital transformation support policies, introduces a green economy pilot dimension, and incorporates a cross-cutting gender approach. This edition extends the coverage by introducing two new countries (Brazil and Paraguay) to the already seven participating countries (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay), guaranteeing the inclusion of all members of the Pacific Alliance and Mercosur.
