Tercer momento. Abstract. Thesis: "The theological problem of man in Xavier Zubiri" refers to the problem expressed in the title of the philosophical work of the author. I naliyze the bibliography of Zubiri, his evolution, periods of his thought and possible classification. I concentrate on the contents of three books reveal to us three moments in the theological problem: 1) First book: "Man and God", Godþs presence in reality, the ultimate basis, facilitating and stimulating, bound to that reality. This connection is the only possible manner of demonstrating, or rather, showing the realit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together theologies of liberation and decolonial thought, Decolonial Love interrogates colonial frameworks that shape Christian thought and legitimize structures of oppression and violence within Western modernity. In response to the historical situation of colonial modernity, the book offers a decolonial mode of theological reflection and names a historical instance of salvation that stands in conflict with Western modernity. Seeking a new starting point for theological reflection and praxis, Joseph Drexler-Dreis turns to the work of Frantz Fanon and James Baldwin. Rejecting a politics of inclusion into the modern world-system, Fanon and Baldwin engage reality from commitments that Drexler-Dreis describes as orientations of decolonial love. These orientations expose the idolatry of Western modernity, situate the human person in relation to a reality that exceeds modern/colonial significations, and catalyze and authenticate historical movement in conflict with the modern world-system. The orientations of decolonial love in the work of Fanon and Baldwin—whose work is often perceived as violent from the perspective of Western modernity—inform theological commitments and reflection, and particularly the theological image of salvation. Decolonial Love offers to theologians a foothold within the modern/colonial context from which to commit to the sacred and, from a historical encounter with the divine mystery, face up to and take responsibility for the legacies of colonial domination and violence within a struggle to transform reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the application of the title ancestor to Christ permits the author to delve into the Christological reflection in Africa today through one of the principal ways. At play here is the inculturation of the faith, which cannot be fully achieved without a process of theological assimilation of the fundamental parameters in the African life. The thesis, therefore, is not only limited to a mere description of the contemporary panorama in that respect, but attempts to offer a theological evaluation of the real expressive capacity of the title, as it has been proposed. The criterion used is therefore double: In the first place, the thesis tried to show that the human and the divine natures of Jesus Christ can be maintained in such a way that there is no rupture with the great tradition of the Christological councils. In the second place, if it is capable of responding to demands of Christology from above and from below. In all this, however, the horizon of the debate is not occidental exegetical investigation well known by the author; but from the theological ambient of sub-Saharan world. The conclusion is positive, pondering the terms involved. The work can be of great use in the christoogical endeavors of contemporary Africa, as well for those who desire to delve into it. Don Alfonso Carrasco Rouco (director of the thesis and now Bishop of the Diocese of Lugo Spain) The work of Don Cletus Chukwuemeka contains a clear description of what we may call African traditional religiosity as well as the theological efforts to inject Christianity into this cultural and religious tradition. The central point of these efforts revolves around the understanding of Christ. The most original aspect of this work is in the critical recourse to the figure of the ancestor or proto-ancestor to present the identity of Christ in a way that is faithful to the Church tradition, and at the same time, significant for the religious and cultural tradition of Africa. Dr. Don Gerardo del Pozo Abejn (Censor of the thesis)

Today we are witnessing the resurgence of the human being's search to give value and meaning to one's own life, and a sign of this is the demand to find spaces where to cultivate interiority, the taste for spirituality. The paths offered are very diverse. This work reflects on the lay spirituality proposed by Pedro Poveda. Some itineraries are offered in order to live the faith today in present-day societies and to be credible and audacious witnesses of the Gospel. Poveda proposes a way of being, a way of being present and committing oneself that makes visible, in daily life, the extra-ordinary distinctiveness of those who walk in the footsteps of the Risen Lord.

That is the case for the two communities of Trappists and Jesuits, so different in their form and so close in their radicality. One is contemplative, the other active; one is in Africa, the other in Latin America. Both are religious Catholic orders. Nevertheless, the cause of their violent death is secular. For one, there is love and dialogue with otherness: other cultures, other religions, other beliefs. For the other, there is justice for those who are the victims of iniquitous economic and political systems: the poor. Assuming secular causes into their religious consecration and commitment, those communities teach today to the plural society we live in how to be open to otherness, to difference, and to the various vulnerabilities that clamor for justice. They also teach to the churches a new radical way to live the gospel—not with a unique institutional point of view but with an unlimited openness to all hungers and thirsts of the world. Their martyrdom is a liturgy celebrated publicly, instigating reflection and action.

Book excerpt: The approach to the theme of the body within the framework of phenomenology is developed in 20th century France. Despite the evident Cartesianism, it is there that the principles of a phenomenology of the body are configured, in the confluence between the phenomenological tradition and the philosophy of existence. The systematic development of the phenomenology of the body, which takes centered reflection on the corporeal existence and the incarnated subject, corresponds, among others, to Gabriel Marcel, Jean-Paul Sartre, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Bernhard Waldenfels. The phenomenology of the body opens a new horizon to understand the corporeal dimension of human existence and offers a new philosophical view of the body, while the body is not only an observable reality as an object, but it is a dimension of the being itself, as, according to Merleau-Ponty, from the phenomenology of “corporeal existence”, the body is the “medium” of our “being-in-the-world”. That is precisely why it can be radically said that “being-in-the-world” (Heidegger) is primarily a “corporal-being-in-the-world" (Waldenfels). This implies “belonging to the world”, being “implicated” in the world through the body and, also, that the body opens a subject to the world. The phenomenology of the body sought to restore the unity of human existence. Husserl, Scheler, Marcel, Merleau-Ponty, Sartre, Waldenfels, among others, break with the modern mechanistic conception of the body and resignify subjectivity and objectivity, in open opposition to the dualistic tradition. The phenomenology of corporeal existence makes the body our way-to-be-in-the-world. The body not only ceases to be an object, but also a passive structure, receiving a reality configured by the confines of res cogitans. Based on Husserl, a theory of the phenomenological body is developed, which will reverse the subordinate role that the body had in Cartesian thought. Merleau-Ponty, who t

Book excerpt: Offers a Christian proposal for radical social transformation. / Daniel Izuzquiza here proposes a vibrant interdisciplinary theology from the unique perspective of the "least of these" the poor and extends an invitation to mystical, political, and ecclesial engagement. / In Rooted in Jesus Christ Izuzquiza analyzes the language of theology, the role of social sciences, the transformation of culture, and the church s approach to politics. To that end he dialogues with some of the main theological proposals of the late twentieth century, from Latin American liberation theology to radical theology in the English-speaking world to European political theology. He also offers a more systematic development of radical ecclesiology, analyzing the sources of the proposal as alternative Christian practices. The result is a groundbreaking call to action and change for the entire church. / In this groundbreaking book Daniel Izuzquiza offers a vibrant Christian proposal for radical social transformation. His wide-ranging study explores the relationship between church and society by dialoguing critically and constructively with major theological currents of our day. Izuzquiza s interdisciplinary theology from the perspective of the poor is truly radical at once in a political, ecclesial, and mystical sense. / We need a way forward beyond our well-worn and tired debates. Daniel Izuzquiza offers just that. His splendid book engages and assesses postliberalism, radical orthodoxy, Anabaptist witness, liberation theology, and the role of the Jesuits in Christianity in order to show the need for a radical ecclesiology that is unapologetically Christocentric, socially attuned, and ecumenically generous. For anyone not invested in the current structures of power in the church, university, or nation-state, this book offers wisdom. For those of us so invested, this book shows a viable alternative preserving the good and challenging the rest. We should all pay attention. D. Stephen Long / author of Speaking of God: Theology, Language, and Truth / I am happy to recommend Daniel Izuzquiza s Rooted in Jesus Christ: Toward a Radical Ecclesiology to serious readers in the English-speaking world who may have dared to wonder if the traditional church of our time is what Jesus really had in mind. And if not, what might a church rooted in the Christ of the Incarnation look like? . . . Rather than superficially inspiring his readers, Izuzquiza brings us face-to-face with what the body of Christ could be by responding more fully to the truly amazing grace of God that has come to us in Jesus of Nazareth. Traditional Catholics and conservative Protestants alike as well as revolutionaries and political activists for that matter will be confronted and challenged here. . . . And, rather than concerning ourselves so exclusively with tactics and strategies, Izuzquiza reminds us of the importance of simply being the church, radically rooted in Jesus Christ. John Driver / author of Radical Faith: An Alternative History of the Christian Church

Recognizing philosophical, Christological, and ecclesiological dimensions, the volume carefully analyzes the complexities of topics that include praxis as real discipleship, transforming realities and contesting orthodoxies, and the impact of Ellacuría's theological legacy.
