Y no lo es porque tampoco es sencillo hallar pistas acerca de cómo se debe tratar a los niños. Al enfrentarlos nos encontramos con profundas dudas y contradicciones, a mitad de camino entre unas nuevas reglas de juego que tienden a fusionar a adultos y niños en identidades isomorfas, y el reflejo nostálgico pero aun vigente de otras épocas donde la relación entre adultos y niños consistía, esencialmente, en imponer una diferencia. No es fácil hablar de la complejidad del pensamiento situado, porque los escenarios sociales en los que hoy se ejerce ese pensamiento ofrecen a las infancias y juventudes opciones de vida muy diferenciadas, que se definen en función del hogar en que les haya tocado en suerte nacer. Y fundamentalmente no es fácil, porque la crítica surge de una insatisfacción fundante, de unos deseos de trascender la realidad, de una cierta vocación por la paradoja. Y desde esta concepción, enseñarle a un alumno a ser "técnicamente crítico" parece casi un absurdo. Y puesto que no es fácil hacerlo, cabe celebrar la ocasión de desafiar con Hugo Castellano, agudo pensador, consecuentemente crítico, el viaje que propone este libro, escrito con la inteligente habilidad de eludir lugares comunes y hallar nuevas preguntas allí donde se suponía arraigado el cómodo espíritu positivo de las respuestas. El texto, entonces, abre la posibilidad de concebir desde nuevas perspectivas un conjunto de cuestiones alrededor de las formas de vincularse con el saber y con el mundo que hoy resultan, más que oportunas, indispensables. Hugo M. Castellano se recibió de Maestro Normal Nacional en 1966. En 1995 fue co-fundador del portal Nueva Alejandría y cuatro años más tarde creó la revista digital Contextos Educativos, espacios pioneros de la participación argentina en Internet, hoy reconocidos internacionalmente.
