El presente ensayo tiene un carácter narrativo, pues narrativa es también la configuración de la propia identidad humana en la que se producen tantas alegrías y también tristezas. Es un intento de sondear la intimidad sin tapujos y con claridad. No se pretende elaborar una teoría sobre el dolor y la muerte, tampoco hacer adornos especulativos y academicistas ni embellecer con palabras vacías situaciones que no pueden dejar de conmovernos y hacernos sentir tristes. La única pretensión ha sido la de afrontar la verdad sin perder la esperanza, sabiendo que hay algo que nunca podemos olvidar: memento mori! esa es quizá la verdad más segura de todas aquellas que podamos creer y que siempre debemos tener presente en nuestra mente y en nuestra vida.
