Book Synopsis Framing History in East-Central Europe and Beyond by : LIT Verlag
Download or read book Framing History in East-Central Europe and Beyond written by LIT Verlag and published by LIT Verlag. This book was released on 2022-09-06 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1970s todays Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung, BMBWF) supported the founding of the Center for Austrian Studies at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and the Austrian Chair at Stanford University in California. These foundings were the initial incentives for the worldwide `spreading' of similar institutions; currently, nine Centers for Austrian and Central European Studies exist in seven countries on three continents. The funding of the Ministry enables to connect senior scholars with young scholars, to help young PhD students, to participate in and to benefit from the scientific connection of experienced researchers, and to get in touch with the national scientific community by `sniffing scientific air', as the Austrians like to say. Furthermore, it aims to avoid prejudices, and to spread a better understanding and knowledge about Austria and Central Europe by promoting scientific exchange. This volume contains the annual reports (2018/2019 & 2019/2020) of the Center Directors and the papers of their PhD students, which discuss various topics on mostly (East-)Central European History from several perspectives and in different centuries. Ferdinand Kühnel, Postdoc researcher at the Institute of East European History, University of Vienna Nedad Ku?, PhD candidate at the Institute of East European History, University of Vienna Marija Wakounig, Professor at the Institute of East European History, University of Vienna
Book Synopsis Drama-based foreign language learning by : Helga Tschurtschenthaler
Download or read book Drama-based foreign language learning written by Helga Tschurtschenthaler and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2013 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does another language do to the individual who learns and uses it? How is the individual's idea of self affected by the other language? This case study deals with these two overarching questions within the context of learning English as a foreign language through drama at a German upper-secondary school in South Tyrol. It investigates how the students see themselves in their roles, how they perceive themselves as users of the foreign language, and how they experience themselves in-role in another language. The results show how powerful drama-based activities can be and what educational impact they have.

Book excerpt: Based on the fact that the Austrian EU presidency hosts a big summit on EU-Latin American relations in early 2006, this extensive volume offers a broad overview from the Austrian perspective for the very first time. Especially migration runs along very different patterns when looking at the Nazi period compared to the decades after 1945. Scientific relations are described as well as solidarity movements' cooperations regarding Chile and Nicaragua. The volume also contains abstracts in German and Spanish. With contributions by Katrin Achrainer, Rudolf Agstner, Herbert Berger, Günter Bischof, Gerhard Drekonja-Kornat, Klaus Eisterer, Margit Franz, Franz Grafl, Stefan A. Müller, Ursula Prutsch, Claudia Reichl-Ham, Christa Riedl-Dorn, Erwin A. Schmidl, Eva Maria Stehlik, and Gerald Steinacher.
Book Synopsis Naming, Identity and Tourism by : Maoz Azaryahu
Download or read book Naming, Identity and Tourism written by Maoz Azaryahu and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-14 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Names weave the texture of our daily lives in ways that are self-evident. However, behind their taken-for-granted threads, they conceal a considerable meaning potential that may turn them into malleable vehicles of human goals and agendas. The novelty of this volume lies in the special focus it places on the intersections of naming, identity and tourism, pointing to how names may play a role in the multifaceted process of identity-formation by shaping and promoting tourist attractions, be they topographical or metaphorical locations. The volume collects original contributions on this emerging field of enquiry that foster an eclectic approach to the study of names. The thematic focus and the several approaches adopted here will make the text appealing to postgraduate students and researchers from several disciplinary fields ranging across onomastics, linguistics, cultural and social geography, history, archaeology, heritage, literature, postcolonial studies, and media studies.
