Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control, Third Edition provides a detailed review of the chemistry and operating conditions of many of the present large-scale chemical processes important to our economy and high standards of living. The processes that could lead to emissions affecting our air, soil, and water are considered, together with ways in which it may be possible to reduce or eliminate these pollutants. Focusing on cleaner production concepts without neglecting 'end of pipe' measures. With an increase in the awareness of corporate and social responsibility among business and industry leaders, the pressure to reduce harmful emissions and the desire to increase efficiencies and energy utilization, this book provides an essential resource. Suitable for researchers, practitioners and postgraduate students in the fields of chemical and biochemical engineering and environmental science, as well as government monitoring and regulatory agencies and industry leaders who want to stay one step ahead, this book will be a valuable addition to any library. - Integrated treatment of chemical technology with emission control chemistry - Introductory outline of the causes and effects of air and water pollution chemistry - Outline of the operating features and efficiency of basic emission control devices - Historical background of developments in industrial chemistry to 2004 in a single volume - Organized for easy access to chemical technology, new developments, or emission control details - Referenced to current additional sources of information in each area covered - Review questions provide working experience with the material provided

Book Synopsis Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control by : Martin Blake Hocking
Download or read book Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control written by Martin Blake Hocking and published by San Diego ; Toronto : Academic Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical book integrates the subject of industrial chemistry with pollution control and environmental chemistry. With this unified approach, Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Controkl meets the requirements of practicing professionals and consultants for a concise reference to the key features, relative importance, and environmental impact of currently operating chemical processes. The book is also designed to meet the critical needs of students training for industrial careers. Coverage includes the major inorganic and organic commodity chemicals; aluminum, iron and steel, and copper production; pulp and paper; fermentation; petroleum production and refining; plus key topics and process details for major petrochemicals and large-scale consumer and engineering polymers. Aspects of recycling at the industrial and postconsumer levels are described for many of these materials. A quantitative approach is emphasized throughout, as used in the author's well-known life cycle work with disposable and reusable cups.

Book Synopsis Optimization of an Analytical Method for Determining White Phosphorus in Contaminated Sediments by : Susan Taylor
Download or read book Optimization of an Analytical Method for Determining White Phosphorus in Contaminated Sediments written by Susan Taylor and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical method was optimized to determine the concentration of white phosphorus (WP) in sediments contaminated by smoke munitions. The method uses isooctane as the extractant and a gas chromatograph as the determinative instrument. Both field-contaminated samples and spiked sediments were analyzed and results on the spiked samples indicate that the method has a better than 80% recovery rate for WP. The detection limit for the method is 0.88 microg/kg of soil. The WP recovery is sensitive to the water content of the sediments and to prolonged shaking. Fluidizing the wet sediments by adding water to saturated soil greatly increases WP recovery. Since field samples are contaminated with WP particles of various sizes, subsamples may not accurately represent the concentration of the sample as a whole ...
