Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book covers writing concepts that are overlooked when teaching writing. Though the writing process has contributed greatly to helping students improve their writing, very little instruction exists to assist students in understanding how to organize the ideas once they have generated them. Students need to be adept at identifying the function of each sentence in a paragraph. Too often, students write general statements about a topic and do not provide the concrete details needed to help the reader understand the point. Teachers also want rigor in the writing curriculum, but that often means assigning more and longer essays. A rigorous writing curriculum can challenge students without adding to a teacher's correction load. This book helps teachers achieve that balance.

This book was released on 2001 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study examines the role of text-structure awareness in the recall of information presented according to the organization of four expository text-types, namely, description/collection, comparison/contrast, cause/effect, and problem/solution. One hundred nine (n = 109) university-bound students, who have satisfied all admission requirements to their respective fields of study except the English language proficiency requirement, participated in the study. Data collection focused on the participants' written recalls of information based on reading four texts organized into the text-structures under investigation. Descriptive statistics (frequencies, means, and standard deviations), a Chi-square test, a Pearson Product-Moment Correlation test, and a Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) test were conducted to answer the questions raised in the study.--The results revealed that the participants were most aware of the comparison/contrast, less aware of the problem/solution and the description/collection structures, and least aware of the cause/effect structure. Furthermore, the results showed that text-structure awareness is positively related to recall of information across all the text-types under study. However, the results did not indicate a statistically significant difference between good readers and poor readers in their awareness of various text-structures at the P
