This book was released on 2003-12-15 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air pollution is a problem affecting every part of our planet however, its global effects are poorly understood. This book provides the first truly global assessment of the scale of impacts of air pollution on crops and forests. The core of the book comprises assessments of the problem by experts from 12 different countries on every continent — describing the evidence of air pollution effects on crop yields and forest vitality with regard to environmental policies. These analyses are placed in the context of a global assessment of the scale of current and future air pollution levels, as well as in the socio-economic context of local production systems./a

Jetzt neu in der 2. Auflage.

Book Synopsis Emissions from European Agriculture by : Tadeusz Kuczynski
Download or read book Emissions from European Agriculture written by Tadeusz Kuczynski and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time when agricultural production activities were considered neutral to the environment has definitely passed. For last 25 years there has been growing scientific evidence on the potentially deteriorating effect of ammonia released in the process of agricultural production on the environment. In the last 15 years additional focus has been given to environmental and health impact of dust and VOC’s generated by farming activities. Only very recently is the contribution of agricultural production GHG’s to global warming recognised. In the book the various aspects of agricultural emissions are discussed. Its first part refers mainly to introductory, theoretical, and methodological issues. The second part gives the most recent data on national emissions, particularly these of Nitrogen species in selected individual European countries and the projections of their emission for all Europe. The third part which deals exclusively with ammonia brings comprehensive survey of its emission abatement potentials, the cost of appropriate actions and the difficulties in their practical implementation. It also considers the potential side effects of ammonia emission abatement measures.

Book Synopsis Effects of Gaseous Air Pollution in Agriculture and Horticulture by : M. H. Unsworth
Download or read book Effects of Gaseous Air Pollution in Agriculture and Horticulture written by M. H. Unsworth and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effects of Gaseous Air Pollution in Agriculture and Horticulture focuses on the impact of air pollution on agriculture and horticulture. This book discusses the existence of significant concentrations of gaseous pollutants in several agricultural regions of industrialized countries, which is facilitated by improved instrumentation and monitoring networks. Organized into six parts encompassing 49 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the two aspects of distribution of gas pollutants. This text then considers a technique for estimation of dose from measurements of gas concentration and stomatal conductance. Other chapters provide examples of monitoring of air-pollution effects on plants, with emphasis on both the concentrations and effects of air pollutants as they complement each other. This book discusses as well the formation and mechanism of action of nitrogen oxides. The final chapter deals with the peroxidation of membrane lipids. This book is a valuable resource for agriculturists, horticulturists, and scientists.

The first one deals with effect of air pollution on health and human body organs. The second section includes the Impact of air pollution on plants and agricultural sources and methods of resistance. The third section includes environmental changes, geographic and climatic conditions due to air pollution. The fourth section includes case studies concerning of the impact of air pollution in the economy and development goals, such as, indoor air pollution in México, indoor air pollution and millennium development goals in Bangladesh, epidemiologic and economic impact of natural gas on indoor air pollution in Colombia and economic growth and air pollution in Iran during development programs. In this book the authors explain the definition of air pollution, the most important pollutants and their different sources and effects on humans and various fields of life. The authors offer different solutions to the problems resulting from air pollution.
Book Synopsis Agri-environmental Management in Europe: Sustainable Challenges and Solutions – From Policy Interventions to Practical Farm Management by : Kathy Lewis
Download or read book Agri-environmental Management in Europe: Sustainable Challenges and Solutions – From Policy Interventions to Practical Farm Management written by Kathy Lewis and published by 5m Books Ltd. This book was released on 2018-04-04 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern agriculture faces many challenges, most crucially food security and the need for sustainable farming systems. Decisions and actions in the agricultural sector come from government and stakeholder policies and on-farm decision-making. This comprehensive monograph provides a perspective on the current state of agri-environmental management in Europe from both a policy and practical perspective. Some of the issues in agriculture discussed are climate change and air pollution, biodiversity, water use and quality, pesticides, pathogens, flooding and drought, energy resources, land use, soil composition, nutrients, livestock, cropping, habitat management and cultural considerations. These important issues form the framework of the book, with each issue discussed in the context of its history, and asking the questions 'why is it an issue', 'what is the current scientific understanding regarding it' and 'how has policy shaped it'. The book takes an integrated approach by not just examining these issues separately, but examining the whole system in which these problems are manifested. At the end, technologies and solutions which are currently being developed and could be used in the future are discussed and the horizon scanned for future environmental challenges. Agri-environmental Management in Europe is an authoritative source for both undergraduate and post-graduate studies that consider the agri-environmental challenges society faces.
