The results obtained are general in the sense that they depend only on the frequency-wavenumber spectrum of the stochastic sea surface and not on any particular surface spectrum. Exact results are obtained for sinusoidal seas and these results are compared with various approximate solutions. The approximations clearly indicate the connection between sinusoidal seas. (Author).

Included also is a summary of a more complete model of the soliton scattering mechanism originally postulated and described. This more complete model is based on recent work of Middleton and Mellen.

An extensive overview of nonlinear transfer is given, and as a by-product the role of four-wave interactions in the generation of extreme events, such as freak waves, is discussed. Effects on ocean circulation are described. Coupled ocean-wave, atmosphere modelling gives improved weather and wave forecasts.
