Download or read book Bubbly Flows written by Martin Sommerfeld and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarises the outcom of a priority research programme: 'Analysis, Modelling and Computation of Multiphase Flows'. The results of 24 individual research projects are presented. The main objective of the research programme was to provide a better understanding of the physical basis for multiphase gas-liquid flows as they are found in numerous chemical and biochemical reactors. The research comprises steady and unsteady multiphase flows in three frequently found reactor configurations, namely bubble columns without interiors, airlift loop reactors, and aerated stirred vessels. For this purpose new and improved measurement techniques were developed. From the resulting knowledge and data, new and refined models for describing the underlying physical processes were developed, which were used for the establishment and improvement of analytic as well as numerical methods for predicting multiphase reactors. Thereby, the development, lay-out and scale-up of such processes should be possible on a more reliable basis.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Problems of Engineering by : William F. Ames
Download or read book Nonlinear Problems of Engineering written by William F. Ames and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Problems of Engineering reviews certain nonlinear problems of engineering. This book provides a discussion of nonlinear problems that occur in four areas, namely, mathematical methods, fluid mechanics, mechanics of solids, and transport phenomena. Organized into 15 chapters, this book begins with an overview of some of the fundamental ideas of two mathematical theories, namely, invariant imbedding and dynamic programming. This text then explores nonlinear integral equations, which have long occupied a prominent place in mathematical analysis. Other chapters consider the phenomena associated with essentially divergent small-divisor series, such as may occur in the formal solution of differential equations that represent the oscillations of conservative dynamical systems. This book discusses as well the mechanics of idealized textiles consisting of inextensible filaments. The final chapter deals with the use of the Peaceman–Rachford alternating direction implicit method for solving the finite difference analogs of boundary value problems. This book is a valuable resource for engineers and mathematicians.
Book Synopsis The Effect of Mass Transfer on Heat Transfer in Higher-order Boundary Layers by : K. Gersten
Download or read book The Effect of Mass Transfer on Heat Transfer in Higher-order Boundary Layers written by K. Gersten and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A determination is reported of the second approximation to the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible, 3-dimensional flow near the stagnation line on a swept cylinder. Using the method of matched asymptotic expansions to determine the coefficients in expansions for the flow-velocity components, pressure, temperature, crossflow at the wall, and wall concentration, the authors studied the effect of wall mass transfer on the second-approximation coefficients for longitudinal curvature and displacement. The results indicate that longitudinal curvature and displacement effects are negative and lead to decreasing values of boundary-layer characteristics.

Book excerpt: The High Temperature Aspects of Hypersonic Flow is a record of the proceedings of the AGARD-NATO Specialists' Meeting, held at the Technical Centre for Experimental Aerodynamics, Rhode-Saint-Genese, Belgium in April 1962. The book contains the papers presented during the meeting that tackled a broad range of topics in the aspects of hypersonic flow. The subjects covered during the meeting include pressure measurements, interference effects, the use of wind tunnels in aircraft development testing, high temperature gas characteristics, boundary layer research, stability and control and the use of rocket vehicles in flight research. Aerospace engineers and aeronautical engineers will find the book invaluable.
Book Synopsis Transport Processes in Boiling and Two-phase Systems, Including Near-critical Fluids by : Yih-Yun Hsu
Download or read book Transport Processes in Boiling and Two-phase Systems, Including Near-critical Fluids written by Yih-Yun Hsu and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents concise views of current theories on boiling and two-phase flow and on supercritical heat transfer. The mechanisms of these two modes of heat transfer are compared and contrasted. The theories propose to interpret the observed phenomena from a mechanistic viewpoint, with supporting correlations and equations. Each subsection includes a summary and reference list, and nomenclatures are provided for each major section.

Download or read book Analogy Between Mass and Heat Transfer with Turbulent Flow written by Edmund E. Callaghan and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of combined heat and mass transfer from a flat plate has been made in terms of Prandtl's simpified physical concept of the turbulent boundary layer. The results of the analysis show that tor conditioins of reasonably small heat and mass transfer, the ratio of the mass- and heat-transfer coefficients is dependent on the Reynolds number of the boundary layer, the Prandtl number of the medium of diffusion, and the Schmidt number of the diffusing fluid in the medium of diffusion. For the particular case of water evaporating into air, the ratio of mass-transfer coefficient to heat-transfer coefficient is found to be slightly greater than unity.
