Book Synopsis Structural Integrity and Durability of Advanced Composites by : Peter Beaumont
Download or read book Structural Integrity and Durability of Advanced Composites written by Peter Beaumont and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 873 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Integrity and Durability of Advanced Composites: Innovative Modelling Methods and Intelligent Design presents scientific and technological research from leading composite materials scientists and engineers that showcase the fundamental issues and practical problems that affect the development and exploitation of large composite structures. As predicting precisely where cracks may develop in materials under stress is an age old mystery in the design and building of large-scale engineering structures, the burden of testing to provide "fracture safe design" is imperative. Readers will learn to transfer key ideas from research and development to both the design engineer and end-user of composite materials. This comprehensive text provides the information users need to understand deformation and fracture phenomena resulting from impact, fatigue, creep, and stress corrosion cracking and how these phenomena can affect reliability, life expectancy, and the durability of structures. - Presents scientific and technological research from leading composite materials scientists and engineers that showcase fundamental issues and practical problems - Provides the information users need to understand deformation and fracture phenomena resulting from impact, fatigue, creep, and stress corrosion cracking - Enables readers to transfer key ideas from research and development to both the design engineer and end-user of composite materials

Book Synopsis FRC 2000 – Composites for the Millennium by : A G Gibson
Download or read book FRC 2000 – Composites for the Millennium written by A G Gibson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-09-11 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the proceeding of the 8th in this successful series of conferences organised by the Centre for Composite Materials Engineering of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and sponsored by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (ImechE) and The Institute of Materials (IoM).The papers presented show how FRCs are being used in a steadily increasing range of technologies and how their properties make them appropriate choices for designers and processors interested in exploiting the potential of these highly versatile materials.Composites applications now extend well beyond their established uses in aerospace, marine and land transport and, although exciting developments are still taking place in these fields, it is the rapidly expanding range of civil engineering and infrastructure applications which offers the greatest potential for novel uses. FRC's high strength, light weight and durability make them appropriate for large scale structures and, as these proceedings demonstrate, they are increasingly being specified as an advantageous alternative to more traditional materials.
Book Synopsis Compressive Behaviour of Composites by : C. Soutis
Download or read book Compressive Behaviour of Composites written by C. Soutis and published by iSmithers Rapra Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report reviews the most important studies undertaken of the compressive failure mechanisms encountered in modern composite materials. It considers first the behaviour of unidirectional laminates, followed by unnotched and notched multidirectional structures. It then considers existing theoretical models. An additional indexed section containing several hundred abstracts from the Rapra Polymer Library database provides useful references for further reading.

Book Synopsis Effects of Bearing/bypass Load Interaction on Laminate Strength by : S. P. Garbo
Download or read book Effects of Bearing/bypass Load Interaction on Laminate Strength written by S. P. Garbo and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this program was structural evaluation of mechanically fastened composite joints. An add-on contract effort was performed to further evaluate the effects of bearing/bypass interaction on laminate strength. The results of the add-on contract are the subject of this report. The work performed under the original contract indicated additional studies were needed to further verify bolted composite joint strength methodology. The objective of this add on effort was evaluation of bearing versus bypass load interactions on laminate strength. Three laminates from the family of 0 deg, + or - 45 deg, and 90 deg ply orientations were tested to failure under a range of tension bypass to bearing load ratios. Predictions of laminate strength were obtained using the Bolted Joint Stress Field Model (BJSFM) described in Volumes 1 and 3 of AFWAL-TR-81-3041. Failure behavior of laminates was documented using ultrasonic C-scan techniques, and failure zones about the fastener hole were correlated with predictions. This report documents test procedures, test data, and theory/test correlations.
