Book excerpt: Para avaliar o efeito do cultivo continuo da cana-de-acucar, nas propriedades de solos de Tabuleiro, foram selecionados quatro talhoes, localizados na usina Santa Clotilde, no municipio de Rio Largo, Alagoas, sendo um coberto por vegetacao nativa (Tn) e os demais, cultivados por periodos de cinco (T5), quinze (T15) e vinte cinco (T25) anos. Os solos foram caracterizados morfologicamente e nas amostras, coletadas por horizonte, foram determinados granulometria, grau de floculacao, umidades a 1/3 e 15 bar, densidade aparente e real, estabilidade de agregados, macro e microporosidade, pH (H2O e KCl), carbono, fosforo, assimilavel, bases trocaveis, etc.

Book excerpt: Foram estudados os efeitos do cultivo continuo da cana-de-acucar na principais propriedades de latossolos amarelos argilosos da regiao dos tabuleiros costeiros do Estado de Alagoas, Brasil. Quatro talhoes foram selecionados na Usina Caete, municipio de Sao Miguel do Campos, AL, sendo um com vegetacao nativa (Tn), e os demais cultivados por periodos de dois (T2), dezoito (T18) e vinto e cinco (T25) anos. Os solos foram morofologicamente caracterizados e, nas amostras de cada horizonte, foram deteminados granulometria, grau de floculacao, umidade a -0,034 MPa e -1,52 MPa, densidade global e das particulas, macroporosidade, porosidade total calculada e obtida por analisador de imagens, pH (H2O e KC1), carbono organico, fosforo extraivel, bases trocaveis, capacidade de troca cationica, saturacao por bases e saturacao por aluminio. Foram coletadas amostras indeformadas dos horizontes A, AB, e BA de cada perfil para determinacao de condutividade hidraulica saturada, microporosidade, densidade global e propriedades micromorfologicas. Os resultados mostraram que o uso agricola dos solos causou mudancas na morfologia do horizonte superficial com o desenvolvimento de um horizonte Ap, apresentando transicao abrupta para o horizonte AB subjacente e perda de estrutura. Em relacao as propriedade fisicas, os resultados indicaram que o cultivo continuo causou uma diminuicao no conteudo de argila nos horizontes superficais e um aumento significativo nos horizontes subsuperficiais. Apos um evidente impacto negativo nas propriedades fisicas com o primeiro plantio da cana-de-acucar, o manejo adotado promoveu um novo equilibrio, com recuperacao da porosidade total e um sensivel aumento na agua disponivel, resultante de uma mudanca microestrutural. Por outro lado, o uso agricola promoveu uma reducao significativa na condutividade saturada do horizonte superficial quando comparado com o solo sob vegetacao nativa. Alem de uma formacao inicial de camada compactada nos horizontes Ap e AB foi observado um adensamento pedogenico natural do solo no BA, acelerado com o cultivo da cana-de-acucar, pelo preenchimento de poros com argila aluvial. Apesar de nao ter sido observado nenhum revestimento nas unidades estruturais em campo, a micromorfologia mostra pedofeicoes morfologicas com revestimentos argilos nos agregados e enchimentos de poros que, somados ao aumento significativo da relacao textural com o cultivo, sugerem a formacao de horizonte B textural a medio-longo prazo. Em relacao as propriedades quimicas, o manejo adotado no cultivo da cana-de-acucar melhorou a fertilidade dos solos estudados, proporcionando aumentos no pH, calcio, magnesio, fosforo, bases trocaveis e diminuicao da saturacao por aluminio.
