Para abordar a questão investigativa: como acontece a passagem dos procedimentos de cálculo mental à escrita matemática, passando pela expressão oral, evidenciados na resolução de um problema referente a multiplicação na alfabetização de jovens e adultos? optamos por uma análise qualitativa dos dados produzidos. O trabalho de campo foi realizado com alunos de uma classe de alfabetização de jovens e adultos. O estudo apresenta a descrição dos encontros ocorridos no desenvolvimento das atividades do trabalho de campo, os diálogos em sala de aula e as produções dos alunos. O material alvo de análise consistiu dos registros do diário de campo da pesquisadora e dos registros produzidos pelos alunos, sendo analisado em três categorias:? Procedimentos aditivos e procedimentos multiplicativos;? A expressão oral de procedimentos e a produção de conhecimento matemático;? A valorização do algoritmo escolar da multiplicação.Com as análises surgiram considerações que destacamos: a busca pela apropriação do algoritmo escolar da multiplicação por esses jovens e adultos como ato emancipador e conquista de autonomia; o papel da linguagem na apropriação desse conhecimento e o exercício da capacidade humana de ir além da experiência sensorial dando o salto rumo ao conhecimento racional.

Uma análise do Portal Brasil aponta que entre os anos de 2009 e 2014, as disciplinas de matemática, química e física tiveram as piores taxas de acerto entre os candidatos que fizeram Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (Enem). Em relação à matemática, os conteúdos que os alunos mais erraram foram sistema de equações, funções do segundo grau e escala. O currículo escolar, a formação dos professores e as técnicas utilizadas para dar aula de matemática fazem parte do conjunto de elementos que compõe o desenvolvimento dos alunos ao longo da vida estudantil. Resultados recentes de pesquisas feitas pelo Sistema de Avaliação da Educação Básica (Saeb) mostram que alunos dos ensinos fundamental e médio têm dificuldade com exercícios básicos que envolvam as quatro operações: soma, subtração, multiplicação e divisão.Talvez isso aconteça porque muitos alunos já se perguntaram e ainda se perguntam quando é que vão usar todas aquelas fórmulas gigantescas e complexas na vida real, no dia-a-dia. Se você não é matemático, economista ou contador é provável que realmente não vá precisar, mas certamente terá que dividir o saldo de uma aposta entre amigos que ganharam na loteria; somar os gastos do mês e relacionar com o valor do salário para não passar aperto e se descontrolar financeiramente; decidir se faz um consórcio ou um financiamento e em qual deles a vantagem é melhor. Enfim, são muitas as situações do cotidiano que nos obrigam a usar a matemática, mesmo sem percebermos.Concluímos que ao invés de empregar a disciplina de matemática de forma tradicional, seria mais eficaz criar a disciplina de educação matemática com a finalidade de colaborar para o desenvolvimento de um ponto de vista matemático sobre a realidade das pessoas.O ensino da matemática pode ser prazeroso, atrativo e instigante. Só é preciso mostrar para os alunos, das mais diversas fases da vida escolar, que não se pode ficar preso nos obstáculos criados por um processo desatualizado de ensino aprendizagem, mas reinventar os métodos e fazer uso, também, das tecnologias para tornar a matemática mais presente na vida todos.

Em um mundo pós-moderno com informações na internet e na mídia, o aluno da escola atual tem características diferentes do aluno de outras épocas. Neste cenário, procurou-se enfocar algumas dificuldades encontradas na Educação Matemática no Ensino Fundamental e Médio, apresentando propostas alternativas para trabalhar a disciplina de maneira lúdica e interessante ao olhar do aluno. Os problemas na aprendizagem desta disciplina podem estar relacionados com a fragmentação das ciências. O paradigma da simplicidade e do reducionismo torna o conhecimento, ainda, linear e em descompasso com a realidade atual. Portanto através da epistemologia da complexidade foram apresentados caminhos para trabalhar a disciplina de Matemática. Este trabalho apresenta o processo atual do estudo da Matemática e a problemática da construção do conhecimento desta disciplina. Mostrou-se um modelo antigo de escola, de uma maneira renovada, explorando conteúdos matemáticos contextualizados e interligados com outras ciências. Através de um estudo exploratório, alunos de diversas séries do Ensino Fundamental e Médio, foram reunidos em uma única sala de aula para estudar a matemática através da ludicidade, da poesia, da história da matemática, da abstração e aplicação da matemática no cotidiano.
