Com esse propósito, procede-se a análise estrutural do processo educativo sobre a EJA, o aluno jovem, o aluno adulto e a formação do professor, especialmente, no âmbito do Brasil, mergulhando assim na complexidade da prática, visando autonomia pessoal, participação e construção coletiva da profissionalidade docente. As discussões se constituem em fio propulsor, quando provocadas em momentos distintos de reflexão coletivas, desconstruindo barreiras históricas fortemente disseminadas sobre a educação de pessoas jovens e adultas ao longo de décadas. Busca-se na análise do discurso, interpretar as informações produzidas, dialogando com autores brasileiros, estrangeiros e os professores participantes, na perspectiva de compreender até que ponto as transformações são percebidas no percurso da formação e como os professores pensam a profissionalidade docente, na medida em que se avança no processo de teorização da prática. A força desses fundamentos é refletida pelo grupo, agregando saberes compartilhados pela, e na experiência, as competências necessárias para exercer o profissionalismo, algo que, gradualmente, vai se construindo, com foco no jovem e no adulto que se pretende formar, em meio aos dilemas e as diversidades, no âmbito da EJA. Por fim, partindo da necessidade de se estabelecer uma relação direta e linear entre a pesquisa em educação e a formação continuada do professor da EJA, agregado a uma abordagem teórico-prática acerca da educação oferecida às pessoas jovens e adultas na sociedade atual, defende-se o processo de formação continuada, como verdadeiros espaços de troca de experiências e construção de todo o tipo de saberes, desenvolvido por pesquisadores, profissionais da educação básica e do ensino superior, integrados em um Espaço de Reflexão e Colaboração.

Book excerpt: This book explores the involvement of nineteen women in an emancipatory literacy program conducted under the administration of Paulo Freire in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The study presents the classroom experiences of these women and the psychological, cognitive, and behavioral changes they undergo over a three-year period. Their low limited acquisition of literacy and their limited reading and writing practices are explored in the context of their circumscribed environment of poverty, living in families and societies that place definite boundaries and expectations regarding the everyday tasks they must perform. The analysis of the women's individual experiences is linked to a political and structural inquiry into the grassroots groups and the political party implementing the literacy program. In this way, contradictions, ambiguities, and antagonisms within and among social forces regarding literacy for social change are made transparent. Literacy acquisition is shown to be a process fraught with multiple exogenous demands that distance these women from the constant exposure to print required for literacy competence.
