Despite the wide geographically viable regions for growth, however, aroids are currently quite low in productivity. Most of the edible species are acrid to taste, though acridity can be removed easily by peeling and boiling them to garner their positive nutritive attributes. International support for the research and development of these crops has historically been low, however the need to produce food for the world’s growing population makes edible aroids a strong candidate for additional research.
