Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains selected papers presented at the International Symposium on 'Economics of Eco system Management' held in Halkidiki, Greece from 26 to 30 September 1983. The meeting was designed to consider as much as possible the interaction between the economy and ecology, and in parallel to provide a forum for the presentation of the ecological and developmental initiatives of the Ministry of Youth of Greece. As chairman of the organizing committee I want to express our thanks to OECD, EEC and UNESCO for sponsoring the Symposium. From Greece the Ministries of Culture and Environment are gratefully acknowl edged. Last but not least, I want to express our sincere thanks for the continuous support to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Greece, and especially to the Minister Mr. Kostas Laliotis because he not only adopted the idea for sponsoring events like this, but also because of his interest which became obvious with his presence and talk during the meeting. The staff of the Ecology Division, namely Drs. M. Arianoutsou and D. Vokou, Messrs. J. Pandis, Th.A. Mardiris, S. Paraskevopoulos and Miss A. Papagianni provided great help concerning the organization, as well as Mrs. A. Karamanli-Vlahopoulou, my secretary, who is always behind these events. N.S. Margaris Contents Preface by N. S. Book excerpt: To mark the long history of Dominican involvement in defence of human rights, in the year celebrating the 800th anniversary of the confirmation of the Order of Preachers, two hundred Dominican brothers, sisters and laity met in Salamanca, Spain, to discuss the contribution of the Dominican Order, in the past, present and future, in the promotion and defence of human rights. It was in that city in the sixteenth century that, prompted by his Dominican brothers, such as Bartolome de las Casas, who were defending the indigenous people of Latin America against the Spanish conquistadores, Francisco de Vitoria planted the seed of today's international human rights movement. This volume presents in original languages the eleven papers given in Salamanca as well as the statement adopted by the delegates at the end of the meeting. They combine historical views, theoretical insights and testimonies from life experience. This offers a rich contribution, not only towards strengthening the role of the Dominican Family, and even the universal church, in defending human rights, but also towards a deeper understanding of 'evangelisation' and 'mission'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the dynamics of place, location and territories from the perspective of an experience-based economy. It offers a valuable contribution to this new approach and the planning and management challenges it faces. This book emphasises three key avenues to understanding the experience economy. First, the book reconsiders innovation processes and the relationship between the consumption and production of experience value. Second, it considers emerging forms of governance related to experience-based development in businesses and cities. Third, it examines the role of place as a value, resource and outcome of experiential innovation and planning. This book will be of interested to researchers concerned with urban and regional development.

Book excerpt: This publication examines the issue of social cohesion as it relates to young people living in urban environments. There are two major reports on violence and social exclusion: the first looks at these issues in a European context, taking account of the extent and causes of urban deprivation, and how this links to youth violence. The second report concentrates on the UK, and on the social transition from a welfare state to a stakeholder/welfare society. Both reports look at issues of crime prevention, youth employment, projects for training initiatives, and urban design processes. Both reports find examples of good practice, and recommends methods to regenerate social cohesion.
