It's flexible and adaptable--and it really works. It features a powerful way to chart your progress called the Body Score. The more you raise your Body Score, the more you will lower your weight! A quiz at the beginning of the book helps readers determine their Body Score; the chapters that follow explain easy dietary and behavioral steps readers can take to improve their scores. While the concept is simple, the science behind it is not. It represents years of top research conducted by Dr. Walter C. Willett, the head of Harvard School of Public Health's Department of Nutrition, including the famous Nurses Health Study. This study scored each of its over 84,000 participants on food choices, exercise schedule, and body mass--resulting in a number that accurately determined the nurses risk of heart disease. Now, for the first time, Dr. Willett has teamed up with mega-bestselling cookbook author Mollie Katzen to adapt a similar, much easier scoring system to create a user-friendly diet plan with fail-safe results. If you can raise your score, you will lower your weight--all while eating delicious, easy-to-prepare foods.

Book Synopsis Eat Less Crap Lose That Fat by : Sam Pease
Download or read book Eat Less Crap Lose That Fat written by Sam Pease and published by Penguin Random House New Zealand Limited. This book was released on 2014-01-03 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fresh and original diet book that teaches you how to lose weight easily, written in a fun, lively style. Eat Less Crap... is an entertaining collection of embarrassing self-confessions about food-guzzling that'll teach readers easy ways to lose weight. It allows for screw-ups because let’s face it... we’re human. Whether you want to lose five, 50, or 500 kilos – losing weight is easy once you have Sam’s secrets. Five years ago Sam Pease was fat and frazzled. None of the popular diets appealed because they preached the same message: give up all the foods you love and exercise for an hour, three times a week. That was never going to work for Sam (she despises gyms and is a carb-junkie), so she had to find new ways to trim down. She watched weight-loss organisations, spied on slenderellas, followed fatties and developed a diet that allowed her to eat chips, cheese, and carbs. It worked. Within five months she’d lost 28 kilos, without stepping foot in a gym. Five years later she’s still slim (and she’ll never be fat again). Follow Sam's easy plan, and enjoy yourself at the same time. This advice is sensible and will result in genuine weight loss if you stick to Sam's advice. This is a diet book with a difference; a fresh and original approach to weight-loss.
Book Synopsis Eat Less, Move More, Don't Diet: Natural Weight Loss and Fitness Tips for the Whole Family by : Randy Lauritzen
Download or read book Eat Less, Move More, Don't Diet: Natural Weight Loss and Fitness Tips for the Whole Family written by Randy Lauritzen and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amy and Randy are a 40ish, middle class American couple living in Florida with five children, one daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. Randy works as a Network Security Admin and Web Developer, so Amy can stay at home. Amy comes from a strong Northern Wisconsin-Polish background and was raised to show love with food-more butter, more sugar, sausage, Pierogies, etc. It didn't take long for Amy to start showering Randy with three full meals a day plus desserts and treats. Over the course of four years, Amy fattened him up to well over 300 pounds! Then Randy started having chest pains, so he went to the doctor. He was a young man in his thirties with somewhat high LDL (bad) cholesterol and EXTREMELY low (good) HDL cholesterol, which put him at high risk for a heart attack. It was scary, especially with four children in the house. Amy was literally loving her husband to death, so they had to make a change. She had to cook healthier foods. But Randy was spoiled with treats, and there was no way he was going to eat salad and drink diet soda. With that in mind, they took it slowly-really, really slowly. It took about two years. Randy lost over 120 pounds, and his cholesterol is healthy. He runs 5 to 10K four times a week and hits the weights pretty hard. There are no tricks to it, no special diets to follow or some voodoo gimmick that will make the pounds disappear. As Amy and Randy learned more about healthy living, the sneaky people started to stand out. There were so many of them preying on others with promises to make you thin and beautiful if you just pay their price. Thus, the creation of Health-Actually.com. Amy and Randy share products they tried, exercise that worked, and recipes that fit it into their family. Their goal: to make your life better by offering you the long version of how they did it.
Book Synopsis Eat Less, Live Longer - Your Practical Guide to Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition by : Anca Ioviţă
Download or read book Eat Less, Live Longer - Your Practical Guide to Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition written by Anca Ioviţă and published by Anca Ioviţă. This book was released on 2016-12-18 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During my third year of medical school I stumbled upon an online article about calorie restriction with optimal nutrition. I read about an apparently simple diet intervention that prolonged the average and maximum lifespan of laboratory animals such as yeast, fruit flies, worms and mice. At that time, I wasn’t aware that such experiments were already done on non-human primates too. Honestly, I dismissed it as a curiosity, an intervention that could have some effect in simple organisms such as fruit flies, but something which would never work in complex beings like us. It just seemed too good to be true. Time passed and proved me wrong. Given an early childhood fascination with the limits of life extension, I studied engineering and medicine in an attempt to radically prolong human lifespan. After a short stint of research in neural prosthetics in a German lab, I realized implanting artificial devices into the human body is not a long-term solution. I returned home where I started the medical residency in geriatrics, the branch of medicine specialized in age-associated diseases. A funny thing happened then. Reading about theories of aging is one thing. Daily caring for people 3-4 times your age is a completely different thing and I started to connect the dots. I noticed some people aged like wine and others aged like vinegar. According to their skinny frames and detailed lifetime stories, it looked like calorie intake had something to do with it. That’s how I got started in typing the first words for this book. ********* TABLE OF CONTENTS *********** Introduction Basic Principles of Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition What You Will NOT Find in this Book How Should You Use This Book? Book Synopsis The Calorie Myth by : Jonathan Bailor
Download or read book The Calorie Myth written by Jonathan Bailor and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contrary to what most diets would have you believe, the human body does not recognize all calories as equal. Some foods are used to boost brain power, fuel metabolism, and heal the body—while others are simply stored as fat. In The Calorie Myth, Bailor shows us how eating more of the right kinds of foods and exercising less, but at a higher intensity, is the true formula for burning fat. Why? Because eating high-quality foods balances the hormones that regulate our metabolism. When we eat these foods, our bodies naturally maintain a healthy weight. But when we eat sugar, starches, processed fats, and other poor-quality foods, the body's regulatory system becomes "clogged" and prevents us from burning extra calories. Translation: Those extra 10 pounds aren't the result of eating too much . . . they're the result of eating the wrong foods! Bailor offers clear, comprehensive guidance on what to eat and why, providing an eating plan, recipes, and a simple yet effective exercise regimen. Losing weight doesn't have to mean going hungry or spending hours at the gym. The Calorie Myth offers a radical and effective new model for weight loss and long-term health.

Book Synopsis In Defence of Food by : Michael Pollan
Download or read book In Defence of Food written by Michael Pollan and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2008-01-31 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A must-read ... satisfying, rich ... loaded with flavour' Sunday Telegraph This book is a celebration of food. By food, Michael Pollan means real, proper, simple food - not the kind that comes in a packet, or has lists of unpronounceable ingredients, or that makes nutritional claims about how healthy it is. More like the kind of food your great-grandmother would recognize. In Defence of Food is a simple invitation to junk the science, ditch the diet and instead rediscover the joys of eating well. By following a few pieces of advice (Eat at a table - a desk doesn't count. Don't buy food where you'd buy your petrol!), you will enrich your life and your palate, and enlarge your sense of what it means to be healthy and happy. It's time to fall in love with food again. For the past twenty years, Michael Pollan has been writing about the places where the human and natural worlds intersect: food, agriculture, gardens, drugs, and architecture. His most recent book, about the ethics and ecology of eating, is The Omnivore's Dilemma, named one of the ten best books of 2006 by the New York Times and the Washington Post. He is also the author of The Botany of Desire, A Place of My Own and Second Nature.
