Book excerpt: Whenever I get my hands on a few yards of a pretty cotton print, I make a skirt. My go-to skirt pattern is one that I drafted myself, using my own measurements as a starting point. Using this pattern always results in an elastic-waist A-line skirt, made to fit my own particular curves. After you have completed the simple steps in this PDF, you will have a custom-made pattern and a skirt sewn from it that fits *your* own particular curves. The paper pattern can be used over and over again to make as many skirts as your fabric stash allows. The simplicity of the Easy A-Line Skirt makes it easy enough for a beginner, as well as the perfect blank canvas. Let an exciting fabric shine on its own as I’ve done here, or dip into your creative reserves and come up with ways to embellish a more subdued fabric with embroidery, buttons, ribbons, and trims. REQUIRED SKILLS The project is suitable for beginners. If you can sew a straight line and do a little basic math, then you can do this! TOOLS AND MATERIALS 1 1/2 yards quilting cotton large sheet (or roll) of tracing paper or newsprint paper yard stick tape measure (optional) washout cloth marker scissors sewing machine thread to coordinate with the sheet iron 1/2-inch or 1/4-inch elastic to fit comfortably around your waist TOPICS COVERED More than just a simple sewing pattern, this ebook is like a mini-class. This how-to book provides the A to Z for golf aficionados in a logical, simple and fun way. It describes a typical golf course, different types of clubs, ball selection, different types of the game, and some basic golf course terminology. It then transitions to stretching and exercise, which is important on the course. These easy-to-perform basic exercises can help save several strokes off your score! Learn about putting, chipping, pitching and the full stroke performed with irons, which leads into the big long drive. Amaze your golfing buddies by making some basic specialty shots that are also easy to learn. The basics are presented with putting being first. This goes against all traditional methods of teaching, where driving is taught first. Since half the game is putting, why not learn it first? Plus, it's fun to be able to put the ball in the hole on your first lesson! Other basics covered are fitting your clubs to get the most out of them by making the clubs personally fit you, and you'll also get a quick overlook of the rules and etiquette of the game. Take some practice drills and you'll be all ready in no time for the greens.

Book excerpt: Easy A (2010) is the last significant box-office success in the high-school teen movie subgenre and a film that has already been deemed a 'classic' by many cultural commentators and popular film critics. By applying interdisciplinary insight to a relatively overlooked movie in academic discussion, Easy A: The End of the High-School Teen Comedy? is the first in-depth volume that places the movie within several key contexts and concepts of intertextuality, gender, genre and adaptation, and social discourse. Through the unpacking of a complex narrative that draws its plot from Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter (1850) and shares affinities with John Hughes' paradigmatic films from the 1980s and key films from the 1990s, this volume presents Easy A as a palimpsest for the millennial generation. Clear and comprehensive, the book argues that Easy A marks the end of the commercially successful high-school teen comedy and discusses the reasons through a comparative synchronic and semi-diachronic historical comparison of the film with contemporary cinematic texts and those of the 1980s and 1990s.

Any addictive thoughts can sabotage the emotional progress you make through treatment and diligent work in sobriety. Easy Does It provokes daily reflection through its inspirational quotes, meditations, and AA slogans. Now, cravings meet compassion, and self-pity meets self-love. Your recovery finds its heartbeat. Inner peace and contentment will disable any trauma, loneliness, or emotional pains in your recovery. Remember, though: spiritual awakenings and contentment do not come all at once. Easy Does It, written by the authors of The Twelve-Step Prayer Book, is a Twelve-Step meditation book that guides your intentions on a daily basis. It relies upon its deep understanding of spirituality and mindfulness to bring about serenity. These aren’t simple buzzwords: they are the birthplace of your day’s spirit. One simple thought can change your day. Make yours serene.

Book excerpt: An outrageous sortie on a pre-war BSA and two obscure, obsolete Yorkshire-made, single-cylinder Panther motorbikes. Poorly funded, with little planning, the ride depends on good luck, blind loyalty and terminal optimism. The struggle is managed with a youthful naivety. This is a recollection of a youth well-spent. Love and adventure are in the air with every chapter a precarious adventure. "I was parched and scarcely able to breathe but I pushed and shoved and swore, screamed, yelled and cried and somehow I got Penelope up that bloody hill and struggled on until I could see the brick outpost over a sand dune. In the last 20 yards I bogged down again, and so leaving Penelope upright in the sand I staggered in, to the amazement of the soldiers. I beg for water"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most complete exposition of the theory of head-driven phrase structure grammar (HPSG), introduced in the authors' Information-Based Syntax and Semantics. HPSG provides an integration of key ideas from the various disciplines of cognitive science, drawing on results from diverse approaches to syntactic theory, situation semantics, data type theory, and knowledge representation. The result is a conception of grammar as a set of declarative and order-independent constraints, a conception well suited to modelling human language processing. This self-contained volume demonstrates the applicability of the HPSG approach to a wide range of empirical problems, including a number which have occupied center-stage within syntactic theory for well over twenty years: the control of "understood" subjects, long-distance dependencies conventionally treated in terms of wh-movement, and syntactic constraints on the relationship between various kinds of pronouns and their antecedents. The authors make clear how their approach compares with and improves upon approaches undertaken in other frameworks, including in particular the government-binding theory of Noam Chomsky.
