Book Synopsis One Hundred Proofs That the Earth Is Not a Globe by : William Carpenter
Download or read book One Hundred Proofs That the Earth Is Not a Globe written by William Carpenter and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Carpenter, is an English author, born in 1830 (England) and died in 1896 (United States). In 1879, Carpenter immigrated to the United States. He moved from England to Baltimore, where he continued his work as a printer. After arriving in Baltimore, USA, he also taught shorthand courses. Carpenter was a fierce supporter of the flat Earth theory, he provided a plea for the flat earth movement. He has been a passionate advocate of the flat earth theory, which holds that the earth is not a globe, but a flat square that rotates on a central axis with the sun stationary on the center. In 1864, under the name of Common Sense, in England, he published Theoretical Astronomy Examined and Exposed, proving that the Earth was not a Globe. In 1885, in Baltimore, he published a hundred proofs that the Earth is not a Globe. Carpenter argued that: - "There are rivers that flow hundreds of thousand miles above sea level without falling more than a few feet, including the Nile, which, in a thousand, falls only one foot. With the idea of the convexity of the Earth, it is therefore reasonable proof that the Earth is not a globe. " - "If the Earth were a terrestrial globe, a small model globe would be the best - for the truest - for the navigator to go to sea. But such a thing is not known: with such a toy as a guide, the sailor would ruin his ship, with certainty! this is a proof that the Earth is not a globe. " Carpenter was a vegetarian, a believer in the power of mesmerism and spiritualism, he even made pamphlets. He also thought that eating meat was the source of many ailments. In 1849, another English writer Samuel Rowbotham (1816-1885) produced works in the same direction as those of Carpenter. He argued that ships disappearing under the horizon, could be explained by the laws of perspective in relation to the human eye.
Book Synopsis Archaeology Anthropology and Interstellar Communication by : Douglas A. Douglas A. Vakoch
Download or read book Archaeology Anthropology and Interstellar Communication written by Douglas A. Douglas A. Vakoch and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-03-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing a field that has been dominated by astronomers, physicists, engineers, and computer scientists, the contributors to this collection raise questions that may have been overlooked by physical scientists about the ease of establishing meaningful communication with an extraterrestrial intelligence. These scholars are grappling with some of the enormous challenges that will face humanity if an information-rich signal emanating from another world is detected. By drawing on issues at the core of contemporary archaeology and anthropology, we can be much better prepared for contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, should that day ever come.
