Download or read book Narratives, Traditions and Personal Reminiscences written by Mrs. Emily R. Barnes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Narratives, Traditions and Personal Reminiscences: Connected With the Early History of the Bellows Family, and of the Village of Walpole, New Hampshire A brief historical sketch of our race was given by Rev. Dr. H. W. Bellows, at the time of the consecration of the monument erected to our common progenitor, Col. Benjamin Bellows, in 1854. A few copies of this were printed, and eagerly purchased, by those who could be served from so limited a number. Since that time, more than twenty years ago, this book has been widely sought by our kindred wishing to obtain more knowledge of their ancestors; and I have often been urged to Supplement that sketch with my own recollections, as I am now the oldest living descendant. In complying with this request, I have found a pleasant occupation in these last years of my darkened life; and I would say to the kindred who may read these pages, do not criticise too severely the work of one who has attained nearly eighty-six years of age, and who for many years past has been almost totally blind. I may add, that I have drawn almost entirely upon my own recollections, and not upon manuscript records or printed matter, for whatever this book may contain. But, as Dr. Bellows' address at the family gathering, in 18 54, garnered up much which properly belongs to this present narrative, I have felt at liberty to make such extracts from the account of the family as seemed of service in carrying out my plan.
