Book Synopsis Dynamic Reconfigurable Architectures and Transparent Optimization Techniques by : Antonio Carlos Schneider Beck Fl.
Download or read book Dynamic Reconfigurable Architectures and Transparent Optimization Techniques written by Antonio Carlos Schneider Beck Fl. and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic Reconfigurable Architectures and Transparent Optimization Techniques presents a detailed study on new techniques to cope with the aforementioned limitations. First, characteristics of reconfigurable systems are discussed in details, and a large number of case studies is shown. Then, a detailed analysis of several benchmarks demonstrates that such architectures need to attack a diverse range of applications with very different behaviours, besides supporting code compatibility. This requires the use of dynamic optimization techniques, such as Binary Translation and Trace reuse. Finally, works that combine both reconfigurable systems and dynamic techniques are discussed and a quantitative analysis of one them, the DIM architecture, is presented.
Book Synopsis Modern Processor Design by : John Paul Shen
Download or read book Modern Processor Design written by John Paul Shen and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptual and precise, Modern Processor Design brings together numerous microarchitectural techniques in a clear, understandable framework that is easily accessible to both graduate and undergraduate students. Complex practices are distilled into foundational principles to reveal the authors insights and hands-on experience in the effective design of contemporary high-performance micro-processors for mobile, desktop, and server markets. Key theoretical and foundational principles are presented in a systematic way to ensure comprehension of important implementation issues. The text presents fundamental concepts and foundational techniques such as processor design, pipelined processors, memory and I/O systems, and especially superscalar organization and implementations. Two case studies and an extensive survey of actual commercial superscalar processors reveal real-world developments in processor design and performance. A thorough overview of advanced instruction flow techniques, including developments in advanced branch predictors, is incorporated. Each chapter concludes with homework problems that will institute the groundwork for emerging techniques in the field and an introduction to multiprocessor systems.
Book Synopsis Surviving the Design of Microprocessor and Multimicroprocessor Systems by : Veljko Milutinović
Download or read book Surviving the Design of Microprocessor and Multimicroprocessor Systems written by Veljko Milutinović and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2000-08-03 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book … uniquely synthesizes Professor Milutinovi???’s thinking on the important issues in computer architecture … The result is a necessarily somewhat eclectic, personal statement by one of the leaders of the field." —Michael J. Flynn, Stanford University From the Foreword "How do we invest one billion transistors on a single chip?" asks Veljko Milutinovi??? as he ponders the ultimate goal of an entire distributed shared memory (DSM)—plus numerous specialized accelerators—on a single chip. He then goes on to present a lively personal account, complete with survival tips, of his experiences in the front line of the rapidly evolving arena of microprocessor and multimicroprocessor system design. Focusing on areas critical to the future of system-on-a-chip design, Milutinovi??? combines his unique perspective with authoritative discussions of cache, instruction level parallelism, prediction strategies, the I/O bottleneck, multithreading, and multiprocessors. He reinforces concepts using three case studies of his own computer system/accelerator implementations with additional details available through Web-based appendices. A key DSM concept, Reflective Memory System (RMS), and tools for evaluating new architectural ideas or characterizing applications are also covered in appendices. Designed for fast, easy comprehension, Surviving the Design of Microprocessor and Multimicroprocessor Systems integrates clear, up-to-date explanations with a wealth of figures and a thorough review of the technical literature. It brings readers up to speed with concepts essential for implementing their own ideas, while addressing the most important issues facing scientists and engineers in advanced computer design.

This book was released on 2011-04-02 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extreme ?exibility of recon?gurable architectures and their performance pot- tial have made them a vehicle of choice in a wide range of computing domains, from rapid circuit prototyping to high-performance computing. The increasing availab- ity of transistors on a die has allowed the emergence of recon?gurable architectures with a large number of computing resources and interconnection topologies. To - ploit the potential of these recon?gurable architectures, programmers are forced to map their applications, typically written in high-level imperative programming l- guages, such as C or MATLAB, to hardware-oriented languages such as VHDL or Verilog. In this process, they must assume the role of hardware designers and software programmers and navigate a maze of program transformations, mapping, and synthesis steps to produce ef?cient recon?gurable computing implementations. The richness and sophistication of any of these application mapping steps make the mapping of computations to these architectures an increasingly daunting process. It is thus widely believed that automatic compilation from high-level programming languages is the key to the success of recon?gurable computing. This book describes a wide range of code transformations and mapping te- niques for programs described in high-level programming languages, most - tably imperative languages, to recon?gurable architectures.

Book Synopsis Fast and Accurate Finite-Element Multigrid Solvers for PDE Simulations on GPU Clusters by : Dominik Göddeke
Download or read book Fast and Accurate Finite-Element Multigrid Solvers for PDE Simulations on GPU Clusters written by Dominik Göddeke and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2011 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation demonstrates that graphics processors (GPUs) as representatives of emerging many-core architectures are very well-suited for the fast and accurate solution of large, sparse linear systems of equations, using parallel multigrid methods on heterogeneous compute clusters. Such systems arise for instance in the discretisation of (elliptic) partial differential equations with finite elements. Fine-granular parallelisation techniques and methods to ensure accuracy are developed that enable at least one order of magnitude speedup over highly-tuned conventional CPU implementations, without sacrificing neither accuracy nor functionality.

Book Synopsis Spike-based learning application for neuromorphic engineering by : Anup Das
Download or read book Spike-based learning application for neuromorphic engineering written by Anup Das and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-08-22 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiking Neural Networks (SNN) closely imitate biological networks. Information processing occurs in both spatial and temporal manner, making SNN extremely interesting for the pertinent mimicking of the biological brain. Biological brains code and transmit the sensory information in the form of spikes that capture the spatial and temporal information of the environment with amazing precision. This information is processed in an asynchronous way by the neural layer performing recognition of complex spatio-temporal patterns with sub-milliseconds delay and at with a power budget in the order of 20W. The efficient spike coding mechanism and the asynchronous and sparse processing and communication of spikes seems to be key in the energy efficiency and high-speed computation capabilities of biological brains. SNN low-power and event-based computation make them more attractive when compared to other artificial neural networks (ANN).
