Book excerpt: What if your pain and lack of mobility aren't due to your age, but your habits? What if changing how you move can change how you feel, no matter your age? Dynamic Aging is an exercise guide to restoring movement. This book: Is geared to a 50+ audience and anyone looking to improve basic whole-body mobility, Includes exercises and postural adjustments that require no special equipment and include modifications for all fitness levels, Will help you move and feel better, Alongside biomechanist and movement teacher Katy Bowman's instructions are the experiences of four women over seventy-five who have used these principles and exercises for years. They've found recommended surgeries unnecessary and regained strength and mobility, and they move more than they did a decade ago. From hiking in the mountains to climbing ladders and walking on cobblestones with ease, each of these women embodies the book's message: No matter where you're starting, if you change how you move, you can change how you feel. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rigid Body Dynamics Algorithms presents the subject of computational rigid-body dynamics through the medium of spatial 6D vector notation. It explains how to model a rigid-body system and how to analyze it, and it presents the most comprehensive collection of the best rigid-body dynamics algorithms to be found in a single source. The use of spatial vector notation greatly reduces the volume of algebra which allows systems to be described using fewer equations and fewer quantities. It also allows problems to be solved in fewer steps, and solutions to be expressed more succinctly. In addition algorithms are explained simply and clearly, and are expressed in a compact form. The use of spatial vector notation facilitates the implementation of dynamics algorithms on a computer: shorter, simpler code that is easier to write, understand and debug, with no loss of efficiency.

Book excerpt: The most significant cause of early retirement from the massage profession is the cumulative strain on the body developed in the course of performing the work. The explosive growth of this occupation in recent years has been accompanied by an increase in the number of work-induced problems. Practitioners can easily strain their hands, particularly their thumbs, fingers, and wrists, as well as their shoulders and backs. Written by noted teacher and trainer Darien Pritchard, this useful book explains those aspects of massage that can lead to these problems and shows how to apply pressure in ways that avoid them. The focus is on how to use the body safely and effectively. The author explores the benefits of involving the whole body to generate the power and movement that support the hands, saving the hands by using them skillfully, and conserving them by using other body areas such as the forearms and elbow whenever possible. Featuring 2,000 illustrations, Dynamic Bodyuse for Effective, Strain-Free Massage is essential reading for anyone involved in massage, whether a student, a professional massage practitioner or teacher, sports massage therapist, or aromatherapist.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic Cartography analyses the works of Rudolf Laban, Lawrence Halprin, Anne Bogart, Adolphe Appia, Cedric Price, Joan Littlewood, and Hélio Oiticica. They are practitioners who have worked on different areas of enquiry from the existing relations between body and space through movement, events, or actions but whose work has never been presented from this perspective or in this context. The work and methodologies set up by these practitioners enable us to develop a practice-based exploration. Some of the experiments in the book – Micro-actions I and II – explore the presence of the body in the space. In Kinetography I and II, Laban’s dance notation system – kinetography – is used to create these dynamic cartographies. Kinetography III proposes the analysis of an urban public space through the transcription of the body movement contained on it. The series Dynamic Cartographies I, II, and III analyses movement in geometrically controlled spaces through the Viewpoints techniques by Anne Bogart. Finally, Wooosh! and Trellick Tales present two projects in which performance is applied in order to analyse and understand urban and architectural space.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the development of an integrated approach for generating the path and gait of realistic hexapod robotic systems. It discusses in detail locomation with straight-ahead, crab and turning motion capabilities in varying terrains, like sloping surfaces, staircases, and various user-defined rough terrains. It also presents computer simulations and validation using Virtual Prototyping (VP) tools and real-world experiments. The book also explores improving solutions by applying the developed nonlinear, constrained inverse dynamics model of the system formulated as a coupled dynamical problem based on the Newton–Euler (NE) approach and taking into account realistic environmental conditions. The approach is developed on the basis of rigid multi-body modelling and the concept that there is no change in the configuration of the system in the short time span of collisions.

Book excerpt: 2024 Hardcover Reprint of the 1937 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Complete with all Illustrations from the 1937 edition. Mabel Elsworth Todd is considered the founder of what has come to be known as 'Ideokinesis', a form of somatic education that became popular in the 1930s amongst dancers and health professionals. Todd's ideas involved using anatomically based, creative visual imagery and consciously relaxed volition to create and refine neuromuscular coordination. Lulu Sweigard, who coined the term Ideokinesis, and Barbara Clark furthered Todd's work. Todd's work was published in her book The Thinking Body (1937), which is now considered by modern dance schools to be a classic study of physiology and the psychology of movement. Her work influenced many somatic awareness professionals of her day, and is often cited along with The Feldenkrais method for its focus on the subtle influence of unconscious intention and attention.

Book excerpt: This book introduces the techniques needed to produce realistic simulations and animations of particle and rigid-body systems. The text focuses on both the theoretical and practical aspects of developing and implementing physically based dynamic-simulation engines. Each chapter examines numerous algorithms, describing their design and analysis in an accessible manner, without sacrificing depth of coverage or mathematical rigor. Features: examines the problem of computing an hierarchical representation of the geometric description of each simulated object, as well as the simulated world; discusses the use of discrete and continuous collision detection to handle thin or fast-moving objects; describes the computational techniques needed for determining all impulsive and contact forces between bodies with multiple simultaneous collisions and contacts; presents techniques that can be used to dynamically simulate articulated rigid bodies; concludes each chapter with exercises.
