Joyce's stories do this by provoking skepticism in the face of their storytelling. Their narrative unreliabilities—produced by strange gaps, omitted scenes, and misleading narrative prompts—arouse suspicion and oblige the reader to distrust how and why the story is told. That's story number eleven, and it's a doozy.Who Are You?Finally, Joyce tells us some stories of public life in Dublin. In the twelfth story, local campaign workers and their circle of friends discuss Irish politics and the legacy of Charles Parnell on the holiday celebrating his memory.
