A music prodigy in a family of athletes, she'd rather play trumpet than play ball—and with her audition to a prestigious jazz conservatory just around the corner (and her two best friends at music camp without her), she plans to spend the summer focused on jazz and nothing else. She only goes to the warehouse party in a last-ditch effort to bond with her older sister. Instead, she falls in love with dance music, DJing... and Derek, a gorgeous promoter who thinks he can make her a star. Suddenly, trumpet practice and old friendships are taking a back seat to packed dance floors and sun-soaked music festivals, outsized personalities and endless beats. But when a devastating tragedy plunges her golden summer into darkness, Mira discovers just how little she knows about her new boyfriend, her old friends, and even her own sister. Music brought them together. Will it also tear them apart?

They seemed to provide refreshment for one's soul. Each drop of rain suggests a new and different interpretation about an "old theme." These revelations are shared through new outlooks on various topics in the Scripture such as grief, obedience, love, pride, fear, choice, regret, and redemption. Drops of Rain includes a secondary book, "Chewing on the Word" (COW). COW proceeds to breakdown Revelation in further detail, shedding light on the tribulations to come, the wrath of God, the harvest of his people, the judgement of America, and his coming and return of Jerusalem.

While Bunny tries to fit in with his new, privileged peers, Nasir spends more time with his cousin, Wallace, who is being evicted. Nasir can't help but wonder why the neighborhood is falling over itself to help Bunny when Wallace is in trouble. When Wallace makes a bet against Bunny, Nasir is faced with an impossible decision--maybe a dangerous one. Told from alternating perspectives, After the Shot Drops is a heart-pounding story about the responsibilities of great talent and the importance of compassion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The shape of drops and bubbles is the centre of interest for many interfacial scientists. This book describes the most recent accomplishments to make use of drops and bubbles in fundamental research and application. After a general introduction into the mechanics of liquid menisci, chapters are dedicated to methods based on drops or bubbles. The chapters about the three main drop experiments provide the theoretical basis, a description of experimental set-ups, specific advantages and disadvantages, correction and calibration problems, experimental examples and their interpretation: pendent and sessile drop, drop volume, and spinning drop technique. The chapter about capillary pressure methods summarises different techniques and gives examples of applications, for instance measurements under microgravity. The maximum bubble pressure technique as a particular capillary pressure method is described, with emphasis on the most recent developments which made this technique applicable to extremely short adsorption times, down to the range of milliseconds and less. Problems connected with aerodynamics and hydrodynamics are discussed and used to show the limits of this widely used standard method. The oscillating bubble technique provides information not available by other techniques, for example about the dilational rheology of adsorption layers and relaxation processes at the interface. The description of rising bubbles in surfactant solutions will contain the hydrodynamic basis as well as the theoretical description of the effect of interfacial layers on the movement of bubbles. Besides the theoretical basis experimental data, such as water purification, flotation processes etc. and the relevance for practical applications will be presented. The chapter about lung alveols demonstrates how important bubbles built by biological membranes are in everyday life. The relevance for medicine and biology as well as model studies is discussed. An important example for the application of drops is metallurgy, where the surface tension of metals and alloys is an important parameter for many applications. The chapters on drop shape analysis by using fibre technique and on force measurements between emulsion droplets are of much practical relevance. Lists of references and symbols are given separately at the end of each chapter while a common subject index is given at the end of the book.

Book excerpt: "Extraordinary"--THE NEW YORKER In the formally innovative tradition of Grief Is the Thing with Feathers and Ducks, Newburyport comes a dazzlingly original, shot-in-the-arm of a debut that reveals a young woman's every thought over the course of one deceptively ordinary day. She wakes up, goes to work. Watches the clock and checks her phone. But underneath this monotony there's something else going on: something under her skin. Relayed in interweaving columns that chart the feedback loop of memory, the senses, and modern distractions with wit and precision, our narrator becomes increasingly anxious as the day moves on: Is she overusing the heart emoji? Isn't drinking eight glasses of water a day supposed to fix everything? Why is the etiquette of the women's bathroom so fraught? How does she define rape? And why can't she stop scratching? Fiercely moving and slyly profound, little scratch is a defiantly playful look at how our minds function in--and survive--the darkest moments.

Book excerpt: The Sacred Drops attempts to address a few of the following questions that arise in the human mind in the realm of spirituality: Where is the mind? Where is it located in the spatial-temporal field of existence? How does it operate and cope with suffering? Why should we seek to understand it? While mankind is able to analyze physical suffering through the prism of available medical research, mental suffering is more complex and not as well understood. Over the course of human history, saints, prophets, and philosophers have pondered and opined on the subject of mental suffering. Ancient scriptures dating back thousands of years have dealt with this matter in metaphysical terms, thereby providing a psychological support system to cope with the problem of mental suffering. Despite these available tools, the human mind struggles, suffers, and pursues all possible avenues in search of happiness. Our desire for personal reflection and improvement led us to undertake the exercise of writing this book. In this anthology, we seek to facilitate an easier understanding of spiritual matters, through the use of anecdotes, pictures, and poetry. It is our sincere hope that this book will, at a minimum, provide you a deeper understanding and food for thought in the area of spirituality.
