Copublished by ASCE and the Water Environment Federation. Design and Construction of Urban Stormwater Management Systems presents a comprehensive examination of the issues involved in engineering urban stormwater systems. This Manual?which updates relevant portions of Design and Construction of Sanitary and Storm Sewers, MOP 37?reflects the many changes taking place in the field, such as the use of microcomputers and the need to control the quality of runoff as well as the quantity. Chapters are prepared by authors with experience and expertise in the particular subject area. The Manual aids the practicing engineer by presenting a brief summary of currently accepted procedures relating to the following areas: financial services; regulations;Ø surveys and investigations;Ø design concepts and master planning;Ø hydrology and water quality;Ø storm drainage hydraulics; andØ computer modeling.

Book Synopsis Integrated Drainage Systems Planning and Design for Municipal Engineers by : Patrick Ssempeera
Download or read book Integrated Drainage Systems Planning and Design for Municipal Engineers written by Patrick Ssempeera and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urban water management has to take an integrated approach that prioritizes sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) over gray infrastructure. This book elaborates on the planning and evaluation of pipework drainage systems with a focus on modern-day constraints to deliver a solution that favors sustainability as the overarching goal. The book includes a technical section on design of gray and green infrastructure, considering the total lifecycle costs of drainage systems. Advanced computer simulation techniques are discussed after covering the derivation of both standard and empirical equations for appropriate hydrology and hydraulics. The book provides an incorporation of reliability analyses for both green and gray infrastructure starting with techniques for forecasting flows, hydraulic performance, and lifecycle costs. The work also involves 3-D modeling, geospatial and big data analysis, and how these techniques are applied into city management—particularly beneficial to municipal engineers who are increasingly becoming involved in mapping the underground. Soil mechanics and subsurface drainage systems are analyzed and structural aspects of sewers are included. Finally, soil behavior in shear, retaining wall structures, and tunneling is briefly featured in the book. This book will be of interest to (under)graduate and postgraduate engineering students, drainage engineers, urban planners, architects, water engineers, developers, construction contractors, and municipal engineers.
Book Synopsis Guidelines and Computer Programs for the Planning and Design of Land Drainage Systems by : W. H. van der Molen
Download or read book Guidelines and Computer Programs for the Planning and Design of Land Drainage Systems written by W. H. van der Molen and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this paper is to facilitate the planning and design of land drainage systems for sound land and water management for engineers and other professionals. It considers the integration of technical, socio-economic and environmental factors and the need for system users' participation in the planning, design, operation and maintenance processes. The text provides guidelines for the appropriate identification of drainage problems, for the planning and design of field drainage systems (surface and subsurface) and the main drainage and disposal systems. The annexes provide more detailed information with technical background, appropriate equations, some cross-references for finding appropriate methodologies, and computer programs for calculation of extreme values, of permeability and some land drainage system parameters. --Publisher's description.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urban population growth dramatically alters material and energy fluxes in the affected areas, with concomitant changes in landscape, altered fluxes of water, sediment, chemicals and pathogens and increased releases of waste heat. These changes then impact on urban ecosystems, including water resources and result in their degradation. Such circumstances make the provision of water services to urban populations even more challenging. Changing weather patterns, rising temperature and large variations in precipitation contr- ute to increased damages, caused by weather related disasters, including floods. Ones of the major contributors to increasing flood peaks are land use changes and particularl- urban development. Consequently, there is a need to look for low environmental impact land development and to manage runoff in urban areas by storm water management. Much progress in the management of urban waters has been achieved in the most - vanced jurisdictions, but much more remains to be done. In this respect the EC Water Framework Directive can provide some guidance. Urban water management issues are particularly important in the countries in transition in Central and Eastern Europe. During the last decade political, economical and social changes in the countries under transition have influenced almost every element of the public sector, including water services. There is an urgent need for exchange of information among various countries on this issue and for identification of best approaches to achieving this transition.

Book Synopsis Towards a Metropolitan Public Space Network by : João Rafael Santos
Download or read book Towards a Metropolitan Public Space Network written by João Rafael Santos and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-07 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the hypothesis that public space – if conceptualised, imagined, and shaped at the metropolitan scale, through innovative territorial design approaches – offers the possibility to interconnect and integrate various systems in search for synergic responses to emerging societal challenges that impact large, urbanised landscapes. The book offers a multidimensional and multi-geographic framework to discuss the role of public space on contemporary metropolitan territories, as part of MetroPublicNet - Building the foundations of a Metropolitan Public Space Network to support the robust, low-carbon and cohesive city: Projects, lessons, and prospects in Lisbon research project. The reader will find a critical and overarching perspective on the conceptual, methodological, and empirical lenses that unfolded throughout the research process, namely a systematised decoding of the public space projects, policies, and rationales that shaped the recent transformation of Lisbon Metropolitan Area. With a diverse range of authors actively engaged in academic research and professorship, in design practice, and in policy-oriented roles, the book concludes with the outlining of forward-looking guidelines, policy recommendations, and design experimentations. This book will be of interest to researchers and students of architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture and geography.
