Book Synopsis Planning Policy by : Richard Harwood KC
Download or read book Planning Policy written by Richard Harwood KC and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 727 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The making of planning policy is a major political and legal issue and there is currently a considerable focus by the government in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on local plan policy making. The current climate is characterised by government concern at the slow pace of local plan adoption in England, the controversial introduction of neighbourhood planning, new strategic planning tools with the Planning (Wales) Act 2015 and local development plans in Northern Ireland. Planning Policy is the only book dedicated to planning policy, both national and local and includes coverage of the Housing and Planning Act 2016. It covers the policy framework within which planning decisions are taken. It addresses how national and local policy is formulated, examined and challenged.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Directory means that a whole range of built environment professionals need never be caught out by the perversities of policy – in its formulation or on its journey into the real life of you and me. To have in one place the means of not only burrowing down into any one policy, but also of exploring the interconnections is a precious resource for any professional - ‘sustainability literate’ or not. Today, nobody who delivers our built environment can be excused from taking responsibility for the future. Armed with this Directory their contribution can only be made more effective. Sara Parkin OBE Forum for the Future This desk-top reference on sustainable development provides essential information for all who need to be up-to-date and familiar with the implications of the legal, fiscal and planning frameworks around the global and local sustainability agenda. It is relevant to a range of organisations and individuals - from national and local authorities, professional bodies, built environment professions, academia, environmental consultancies, non-governmental organisations and others. Carefully designed to facilitate access for a diverse range of stakeholders, it covers international, European, British and local policies in key built environment themes, and develops their inter-relationship to sustainable development. The Directory addresses each theme in a series of tables which summarise the policy purpose and also provide web-links to view the specific policy documents. The themes covered are: · Biodiversity · Climate Change · Construction · Energy · Environment · Planning · Pollution · Social Issues · Sustainable Development Policy and Practice · Transport · Urban Development · Waste Management · Water Other books of interest: The Green Guide to Specification Anderson ISBN: 1405119616 Smart & Sustainable Built Environments Yang Hardback ISBN: 1405124229 Sustainable Property Development Keeping Paperback ISBN: 0632058048 Previously Developed Land Syms Paperback 1405106972 Evaluating Sustainable Development Brandon 0632064862 Cover design by Garth Stewart www.thatconstructionsite.com

Book Synopsis Renewing Urban Communities by : Mark Scott
Download or read book Renewing Urban Communities written by Mark Scott and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ireland is now an urban society, and both parts of the island have experienced rapid urban-generated growth and new patterns of development in recent years. This inter-disciplinary book adopts an all-Ireland perspective to investigate the tension that exists between sustainable urban development values and rhetoric - such as increased densities, brown field development, the compact city and social inclusion - and the emerging geography of urban Ireland, influenced by consumer and lifestyle choices. The introduction provides an overview of the dynamics of urban change, particularly during the 1990s, and the experience of rapid economic growth. The following chapters are divided into two parts, considering sustainable urban environments, and sustainable communities. This book will appeal to students, academics, policy and decision-makers, given that it adopts both a qualitative and quantitative approach, and introduces a range of new empirical studies covering both physical and social sustainable development.
Book Synopsis The Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive by : Gregory Jones KC
Download or read book The Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive written by Gregory Jones KC and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-02-23 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive (Directive 2001/42/EC) (SEA Directive) has been a lurking legal presence in EU and UK environmental law. Now, just over a decade since its implementation, the impacts of the SEA Directive are beginning to be felt throughout the UK, and more broadly throughout the European Union as a whole. These developments have been driven both by the expansive interpretation of the Directive's scope by the Court of Justice of the European Union and by a slow learning process about how this new type of regulation should be legally interpreted and applied. This edited collection is the first volume to reflect comprehensively on the emerging legal identity of SEA in the EU and UK. With contributions addressing the impact of the SEA Directive on the fields of town and country planning and European environmental law, the book is a comprehensive analysis of all aspects of the Directive, from its history and scope, to its impact on governmental policy and its implications in practice. The volume both reflects on key cases such as Case C-567/10 Inter-Environnement Bruxelles and HS2, and looks forward, as it considers and projects future legal implications of the SEA Directive. Written by a blend of distinguished academics and leading practitioners, it provides an in-depth critique and rounded appreciation of both the immediate practical effects of SEA and its wider impact on European and UK environmental law.

Book Synopsis The draft national policy statement (NPS) on waste water by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee
Download or read book The draft national policy statement (NPS) on waste water written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-04-05 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UK's 347,000 kilometre network of sewers and 9,000 sewage treatment works fulfil the vital function of managing over 11 billion litres of waste water each day. Changing weather patterns and population growth are leading to increased volumes of waste water in some parts of the country. In coming years, there will be a need to construct new infrastructure to manage waste water. In particular, new infrastructure is needed in the River Thames area to cope with population growth and to meet the European Union's environmental requirements. But the draft National Policy Statement (NPS) on Waste Water needs radical improvement if it is to provide a valuable policy framework to guide decision-makers. The Committee criticise the draft National Policy Statement for focussing on two specific London projects, the Thames Tunnel and replacement of a sewage treatment works in North East London. They argue that it should set out a strong set of general principles for decision makers to apply to any waste water project once a specific application is made, rather than have site-specific sections. The Planning Act 2008's new regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure (NSIPs) does not currently apply to the Thames Tunnel project-a surprising omission given that this multi-billion pound project is one of only two waste water projects likely to be of sufficient scale to come within the ambit of this NPS. The Government must rectify this urgently.
Book Synopsis Methods of Environmental Impact Assessment by : Peter Morris
Download or read book Methods of Environmental Impact Assessment written by Peter Morris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-03-05 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental impact assessment (EIA) is now firmly established as an important and often obligatory part of proposing or launching any development project. Delivering a successful EIA needs not only an understanding of the theory but also a detailed knowledge of the methods for carrying out the processes required. Peter Morris and Riki Therivel bring together the latest advice on best practice from experienced practitioners to ensure an EIA is carried out correctly. This new edition: • explains how an EIA works and how it should be carried out • demonstrates the relationship of the EIA to socio-economic, environmental and ecological systems • includes completely updated legislative and policy contexts • has added explanations of shared and integrative methods including a new chapter on EIA and sustainability. Invaluable to undergraduate and MSc students of EIA in planning, ecology, geography and environment courses, this third edition of Methods of Environmental Impact Assessment is also of great use to planners, EIA practitioners and professionals seeking to update their skills.
