On May 21, 1921, a group of white Oklahomans attacked the prosperous African American community, called the Greenwood District or "the Black Wall Street" in Tulsa, OK over the alleged assault of a white woman by a black man. 24 hours later more than 800 people were admitted to local hospitals, 10,000 residents were homeless, and 35 city blocks were reduced to rubble. The monetary cost of the riot was later estimated to be 26 million dollars. This report examines the events leading up to the riot, the riot itself, and the consideration of reparations for the victims.

Download or read book It written by Stephen King and published by Scribner. This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 1184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It: Chapter Two—now a major motion picture! Stephen King’s terrifying, classic #1 New York Times bestseller, “a landmark in American literature” (Chicago Sun-Times)—about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers…an evil without a name: It. Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers. Readers of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It. “Stephen King’s most mature work” (St. Petersburg Times), “It will overwhelm you…to be read in a well-lit room only” (Los Angeles Times).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The C-47 units of the USAAF were an integral part of some of the most dramatic episodes of the European war: the airborne assaults in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, southern France, Operation Market Garden and the crossing of the Rhine. The mass fratricide off Sicily, the night drop for D-Day and the Bastogne supply missions are also covered, along with more typical accounts of training, formation flying, airdrops and casualty evacuation missions. This book details an aircraft that remains a popular favourite and an acknowledged design classic, carrying out missions every bit as strategically important and as dramatic for the aircrew as those of the fighters and bombers.

Book excerpt: One of the most powerful and popular players of his generation, Ian Woosnam is a golfing legend. His life story ranges from the struggle to earn a living in a hard-working mining community, through the highs and lows of the amateur and professional game, to becoming a household name. This is the inspiring story of this farmer's son who worked his way up to become the number one golfer in the world, but who never forgot to have fun. Few European golfers have won more professional tournaments, but Ian Woosnam's remarkable life in golf has always added up to much more than the number of strokes on his card. Aggressive on the tee, relaxed in the bar, rarely spotted in a gym, Woosnam has become a hugely popular figure in 25 years of pro golf; affectionately known as Woosie from Oswestry to Osaka, St Andrews to Sun City, Wentworth to West Palm Beach. In his autobiography he recounts the untold tales of his early years.
