These selected paragraphs distill the contents and give you a quick look inside Double Harness: Look inside the book: He'll always be a capital fellow; but, alas, he won't long be the jewel he is now: just at that stage between boy and man-hobbledehoy, as you women used to make me so furious by calling me-breathing fury against all institutions, especially those commonly supposed to be of divine origin; learned in ten thousand books; knowing naught of all that falls under the categories of men, women, and things; best of all, blindly wrath at himself because he has become, or is becoming, a man, and can't help it, and can't help feeling it ...He won't so much mind my being old and stout, and he won't think so much of the time when I was young and he couldn't be with me; and he'll find me easier to live with: my temper's improved a lot these last years, Sibylla.' About Anthony Hope, the Author: Hope was born in Clapton, then on the edge of London, where his father, the Reverend Edward Connerford Hawkins, was headmaster of St John's Foundational School for the Sons of Poor Clergy (which soon moved to Leatherhead in Surrey and is now St John's School). ...3 He went on a publicity tour of the United States in late 1897, during which he impressed a New York Times reporter as being somewhat like Rudolf Rassendyll: a well-dressed Englishman with a hearty laugh, a soldierly attitude, a dry sense of humour, 'quiet, easy manners' and an air of shrewdness.

This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Shoeing and Balancing the Light Harness Horse The great interest that has been manifested by all classes Of harness horsemen in the youngsters Of late, an interest that is con stantly increasing, I am pleased to be able to say, and the hundreds of enquiries I have received from all parts Of the country since I have been on The Horse World staff, for a work devoted to this subject, prompted me to write this little book. If you are looking for something elaborate, something couched in collegiate language, and clothed in a mantle Of high - brow verbiage, you would better draw and go to the stable, because you are outside the money right now. What there is of this is written in plain English, for two reasons It is intended more for the beginners, theshoer. Owner and trainer, .than for the experi enced in the business, although the wisest may possibly be benefited in a small way by a care ful perusal Of its contents. My other reason for writing very plainly is that it is the only lan guage I am familiar with. W'riting a book of this size looks easy, but it is not in this instance, because I have con densed everything, trying to put in clear and concise form, in these few pages, information that could easily be made to fill a bo'ok twenty five times as large'as this one. If, however, you and the central figure in your dreams of glory on the trotting tracks, are in the least benefited by reason of its having been written, I shall feel well repaid for my humble efforts in your behalf. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Horses Nine: Stories of Harness and Saddle It was strange work Skipper had been brought to the city to do. As a colt he had seen horses dragging ploughs, pull ing big loads of hay, and hitched to many kinds of vehicles. He himself had drawn a light buggy and thought it good fun, though you did have to keep your heels down and trot instead of canter. He had liked best to lope off with the boy on his back, down to the Corners, where the store was. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Harness Repairing (Classic Reprint) written by Louis M. Roehl and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Harness Repairing The development of vocational agricultural education work in secondary schools under the stimulation of the Federal Vocational Act has especially directed attention during the past few years to practical farm shop work for boys enrolled in these agricultural courses. There has been a rapid movement of this work away from the former manual training phases which characterized it in many ways in the early stages of its development. There has been an attempt to determine what tools, what constructions and what repairs are essential and desirable to the vocation of farming. It is expected that the farm shop work will involve the use of such tools as are justifiable on the farm, in such construction and such repair work as the farmer would ordinarily engage with profit. In its first stages this work was largely woodshop work with forge work added in some places. Lately it has been supplemented by recognition of the need for harness repair work, soldering repair work and general construction and repair work involving the use of tools designed to work cold metal. Rope work is passing from the stage of many and involved knots and splices to the selection of knots and splices significant in farm practice. The author's efforts in this book are additions to the farm shop work presented in his books "Agricultural Woodworking" and "Farm Woodwork" along the line of harness repair. Many teachers, who have seen the necessity of the introduction of work of this kind, have been at a loss as to what equipment should be provided and what exercises could find justification in the vocation of farming. The author's contribution in this book will go far in aiding the teacher in settling these questions. Many years of experience in teaching, coupled with a broad contact with the actual field of farming, make his point of view particularly sound. His technical training has enabled him to put up a body of information in this book that should be peculiarly useful to the vocational teacher of agriculture who is concerned with farm shop work.
