Book excerpt: Andie Parker has just been told that she may have unconsciously taken on someone else’s identity as a child. But how could this be? How could she not know who she is? The police have found the body of a little girl in the basement of a missionary boarding school; a little girl they believe to be Andie Parker. But the woman living as Andie Parker knows this must be impossible. The little girl had to be her old dormmate, Miriam, who went missing at the age of seven. And yet, the police and even her own family aren’t quite convinced she is who she says she is. Now, Andie must relive her childhood trauma as she is confronted with flashbacks, horrible nightmares, and vignettes from her childhood, all while desperately trying to uncover missing memories, save her marriage, and reconnect with her estranged siblings. Can Andie discover who she really is, and find out what happened to the little girl in the basement?

Book excerpt: Cosmos is a flower. Cosmos Screen is a patch of cosmos flowers observed at the age of five; iconic pleasant first memories for the author. It is from this screen that he relates the story of his life. It is also the screen beyond which he relates something of his ancestry. The story follows the author from that cosmos screen in rural southern Alabama in 1930, through the Great Depression of the thirties, World War 11, his college years, then through his professional development as an artist educator, and describes his travels to forty-six countries. Throughout all of this the author threads stories of his secret struggles to satisfy his sexual desires while maintaining the secret of his, and his older brothers, homosexual life. Religion, racism, homophobia and poverty are described as issues against which the author struggles along with the alienation that these issues develop for the author and for his brother. Intriguing stories told with analytical insight.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1966 NCAA basketball championship game, an all-white University of Kentucky team was beaten by a team from Texas Western College (now UTEP) that fielded only black players. The game, played in the middle of the racially turbulent 1960s--part David and Goliath in short pants, part emancipation proclamation of college basketball--helped destroy stereotypes about black athletes. Filled with revealing anecdotes, The Baron and the Bear is the story of two intensely passionate coaches and the teams they led through the ups and downs of a college basketball season. In the twilight of his legendary career, Kentucky's Adolph Rupp ("The Baron of the Bluegrass") was seeking his fifth NCAA championship. Texas Western's Don Haskins ("The Bear" to his players) had been coaching at a small West Texas high school just five years before the championship. After this history-making game, conventional wisdom that black players lacked the discipline to win without a white player to lead began to dissolve. Northern schools began to abandon unwritten quotas limiting the number of blacks on the court at one time. Southern schools, where athletics had always been a whites-only activity, began a gradual move toward integration. David Kingsley Snell brings the season to life, offering fresh insights on the teams, the coaches, and the impact of the game on race relations in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A father¿s presence is important in a daughter¿s life. He is the first man a little girl sees and knows. He demonstrates how men relate to women. But what happens when the father-daughter relationship is dysfunctional? Daddy answers that question. Included are fourteen memoirs that describe the impact a failed father-daughter relationship can have. These women share essays and narratives that detail various stages of breakdown. Whether an event occurred in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood, each story explains how their father¿s physical, emotional, or psychological abandonment has affected them. The book is separated into two parts. Part I shows the proverbial truth in the phrase, hurt people hurt people. While some stories confirm why or how men mistreat their daughters, others show how daughters sometimes internalize neglect and continue the cycle either with the relationship they have with themselves, or others. Part II illustrates how compassion can lead towards a path of inner peace and happiness, no matter the state of the relationship.

Book excerpt: Wouldn't it be fun to be a Dorm Daddy and have two college freshmen all to yourself in your private home? Juan and Aaron may change your mind about that daydream. Juan and Aaron are freshmen from New York visiting Texas to attend State University. The problem is State U isn't quite ready with its new dorms. Dean Wolf enlists his good pal Ed to help out. The antics of these two twinks, begin during the ride to Ed's home and don't stop until weeks later when it's time for them to leave. Ed tries to control his house with a healthy dose of fun, patience, and spankings. But those young men are a handful (no pun intended.) Ed is kind of weird in his on way. We'll just call him borderline "Psycho", almost as wacky as Norman Bates. There are page after page of laughs and sex in this cute little novella. Excerpt: Dean Wolf tossed a bunch of papers and a pen at me. After I filled out the paperwork that stated all of the terms and rules and regulations of the Temporary Auxiliary Housing Off Campus Agreement -- The name was long enough to give me a headache-- Dean Wolf walked me over to the gym where they were housing the freshmen males. I tried to excuse myself to use the toilet, but Wolf was not having that. He knows I have a bad habit of using the toilet in the men's dressing room for hours. I've visited him on campus before. It's always nice to see those bats swinging between thighs along with the plethora of bouncing balls. And of course a cute melon-shaped ass, dripping wet, making it sweet and succulent to the tongue, is a nice treat. But Wolf wasn't allowing me to engage in any shenanigans today. I had to be professional and fatherly. You may have purchased this when it was authored by Andy Cox. If so, thank you. New readers, please enjoy this and upcoming stories by AC Adams.

How do you make it through the bad stuff the really bad stuff ? In her memoir, Hookers, Midgets, and Fire Trucks: An Invitation to Our Party, Linda Gayle Thompson shares how laughing, loving, crying, and honest-to-God begging for answers got her through the absurdity of life, which she equates to a party. Lindas honest connection with people and her ability to blend zany real-life humor with her passion to motivate others causes the lives she touches to be changed forever. Through the toughest times of her life, Linda discovered her guardian angels and overcame overwhelming grief and depression. Based on the information she has learned, she believes we truly are eternal. Linda grew up as an insecure child, not realizing her own inner strength until she married her own personal quadriplegic Don Quixote and became his sole caregiver. Thompson shares how absurd humor, tenacious spirit, and guardian angels carried her through a lifetime of one catastrophic blow after another. Hilarious, freakish anecdotes woven together with tragic, real-life experiences and lessons learned from both produce a magical blend of inspiration, tears, and laughter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mama, something terrible is wrong with me. There is blood in my panties!" Those were the words of seven-year-old Sarah. Mama told her she must have fallen or something and not to worry. Sarah went away feeling sad; her chance for help was gone! It was Sarah's alter, Susie, who had been sticking pencils and other items in her private place. Susie had come when Sarah was only four years old. Susie had become Daddy's 'special' little girl by sitting on his lap. In return he gave her a dollar for any change she had. Daddy played with Susie's pee pee and it was Susie that slept in the upstairs bedroom with her fourteen-year-old brother. Later in life, two other alters would appear. "You Love Your Daddy, Don't You?" is told through the memories of Sarah. It reveals a child's determination to survive despite profound emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. This was compounded by constant neglect from both parents. About the Author: Sarah Harrison has written several articles for the Women's Institute for Incorporation Therapy's monthly newsletter as well as articles for spiritual magazines. She also volunteers as a mentor in a local school system, helps with special group activities in an assisted living home, and provides guidance to troubled parents and teens on www.experts.com. After the death of her husband, Sarah Harrison moved from Atlanta, Georgia in 2007 to a suburb near Charlotte, North Carolina to be near her grandchildren. She has joined Harrison United Methodist Church and is active in Youth Group, Emmaus, Epiphany, and Faith Partners.

Book excerpt: Do fathers love their children more than the mothers do? Why or why not? Yusuph is Tanzania Congolese boy who born and grow in Tanzania with unaware of his mother's (Tecla) and father's (Joseph) love for him because of some complicated situation. As Yusuph grew up, he longed to live with his family but at the end he received bad news of Joseph's death. "I literally can't remember what was my dad looks like, or his voice, or anything about him but there are still some missing pieces of him deep down inside me that I brought into my countless dreams of him." Father will say they love their children just as much as their Mothers, but it looks different on the outside. He buried him in his mind, and transform almost every aspect of his live, he decided to pursue his new dream of not letting his children go through the life he went through. Yusuph and Samir were selected by the college to study abroad. Father tend to love their children in the way they perceive is the best but mother love their children in the way they can best perceive it. So, from children's perspective, the father's love may seem to be less than the mothers. Samir explore Yusuph's life situation to accomplish writing his own novel. "... He's committed to reading as many novels as he can, hoping that one day he'll find something to write about in his novel, but still, I wish I could tell my life story so he could write something..." THE BEGINNING OF NOVEL WITHIN A NOVEL. Later on Yusuph find out that, before Joseph death, he left special love message for him about his steps sister, Clementine who live in Drc Congo. It is very difficult for Yusuph to go meet his step sister because he want to spend most of his time with his girlfriend (Naomy) for his future family. As time goes by pain of loosing Joseph never leaves Yusuph. "The foot prints our loved ones leave on our souls are permanent. Never to be filled with another. Never forgotten. They live on in our memories and in our hearts." The importance of fatherhood extend beyond a provider. Keep that in mind. Yusuph couldn't deal with the future while he didn't clean all of his past memory. "Now we're all together and we can't shake hands... We can't kiss... Hugging each other is a test for us... Having sex is also a problem.... I don't think if we will get married... Bearing children is a dream..." Mother's love is mild while father's love is shape. They are different but neither is dispensable. Instead to go study abroad, he go to meet Clementine because she is the one who will restore all the love he had for Joseph without care if there a civil war. Yusuph's heart-beat, thump-thump -- His finger is taking up trigger-slack. He holds off as Justine (Rebel) continues to drag Clementine backward into the woods... So yeah, I think fathers love their children, but they way they express it can sometimes be misunderstood or undervalued.
