Book excerpt: Two rich and bored junior high school kids, John and Glenn, living in a little town in Texas, decided that they had to do something spectacular, an event that they would remember for the rest of their life, and yes, it eventually turned out that way. What they had in mind was against the law. It was depraved and immoral enough that it could ruin somebodys life forever. The victim that they had selected was, unfortunately for them, not somebody you could mess with without some serious repercussions and revenge. Her life so far was not a bed of roses, and she had to struggle to stay above water. She was alone and on the streets of New Orleans when she was sixteen years old. Her parents were killed when the hurricane Katrina hit the town. The boys parents were the richest and most powerful citizens in their little town. Minor infractions of the law were never enforced, and this made them forget that some events were still against the law abd that it was indecent behavior and would have them punished if caught. This story will make you want to read all the incredible, strange, scary, and wonderful events that the boys and girls have to go through. The story is at the same level of vicious, tender, and dramatic. It will make you angry and upset and, maybe, make you even cry and feel good. Its a novel where the author cant tell you too much in this synopsis without ruining the story. I hope you will have the time and desire to read this book. People who did read the book find it to be very entertaining, creative, and passionate, and they find it very hard to put down.

Book excerpt: The bittersweet and very funny story of a young man’s journey to adulthood that the Nashville Banner called "Americana at its best." Young for his class and small for his age, Porter Osborne, Jr., leaves his rural Georgia home in 1938 to meet the world at Willingham University, armed with the knowledge that he has been "Raised Right" in the best Baptist tradition. What happens over the next four years will challenge the things he holds infallible: his faith, his heritage, and his parents’ omniscience. As we follow Porter’s college career, full of outrageous pranks and ribald humor, we sense a quiet, constant flow toward maturity. Peppered with memorable characters and resonant with details of place and time, The Whisper of the River is filled with the richness of spirit that makes great fiction. "Wry, incisive, delicately structured, emotionally complex, and hilarious." -- Atlanta Magazine

Book excerpt: The earth, the moon, and the magical path to enlightenment. Written by a practicing witch who conducts classes and seminars on witchcraft—the oldest Western religion, a means of power and enlightenment, and a healing art. “Laurie Cabot has written a fascinating account of a beautiful and sadly misunderstood religion, witchcraft. She has with her life and work done a great deal to legitimize this ancient pagan form of worship. I am among the ecumenical Christians who have discovered the truth about witchcraft, that it is neither demonic nor evil. Power of the Witch is a marvelous introduction to the magical and highly ethical world of wicca.”—Whitley Strieber

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elder examines how artists such as Brakhage, Artaud, Schneemann, Cohen and others have tried to recognize and to convey primordial forms of experiences. He argues that the attempt to convey these primordial modes of awareness demands a different conception of artistic meaning from any of those that currently dominate contemporary critical discussion. By reworking theories and speech in highly original ways, Elder formulates this new conception. His remarks on the gaps in contemporary critical practices will likely become the focus of much debate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The West Wing" or "Generation Kill" in Space? A show about God-fearing sex-obsessed robots? Or a complex meditation on fate, dreaming and eternal recurrence? Of all recent television science fiction series, the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica" is the most highly praised and consistently inventive and intelligent. Where the original show was a straightforward space opera, the new one is rich, strange and above all unpredictable. This book covers the new "Battlestar Galactica" from beginning to end, covering all of the show's principal themes from the depiction of sexuality in an era of artificial people and downloaded memories to what it means to be a member of a military organization when the stakes are not victory or defeat but survival. Like all the best shows about the future or the past - we are never sure when all this is supposed to be happening - "Battlestar Galactica" is a series about the present; chapters here cover its depiction of the post-9.11 world and such issues as abortion and worker's rights. This definitive book on the full new "Battlestar Galactica" also includes an interview with Jane Espenson, co-executive producer of the show's last seasons and writer/director of the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel film "The Plan", with a complete episode guide.

Book excerpt: Like the other men in Prince Kelvin’s line, only the love of another can free him from his family’s curse, but it’s hard finding the perfect woman able to love him despite all his flaws—and his tendency to transform into an animal during the spring. To survive and reclaim his humanity, he must find someone who would turn the world upside down for him, not because of fame, wealth, or power, but because he has earned her trust and love. When he develops an unhealthy case of infatuation for the huntress wanting him as her next trophy, his curse may be his salvation, if he can convince the wild woman of the woods to see him for who he is rather than the beast he has become.
