Download or read book Ask a Manager written by Alison Green and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. It teaches us how to deal with many of the most vexing big and little problems in our workplaces—and to do so with grace, confidence, and a sense of humor.”—Robert Sutton, Stanford professor and author of The No Asshole Rule and The Asshole Survival Guide “Ask a Manager is the ultimate playbook for navigating the traditional workforce in a diplomatic but firm way.”—Erin Lowry, author of Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together

Download or read book The Director: written by J. K. Stein and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J, a recent college grad, met the Director almost a decade ago when he approached her at a coffee shop on the Upper West Side. He complimented her beauty and told her that she was what he needed in order to realize his next film. Their exchange of phone numbers that afternoon marked the beginning of a five-year-long abusive relationship. The national #metoo movement has inspired many, including J. K. Stein, to challenge the stigmas surrounding sexual assault and to share their personal stories. These unedited journals and their subsequent analyses offer readers a glimpse into the painful realities of sexual abuse and the ways in which giving consent is more complicated than a simple yes or no. J. K. Steins memoir invites readers to step inside the mind of a young woman trying to find herself in the face of power, manipulation, and self-hatred. At its heart, this book offers analyses of abjection; the grotesque; consent; what it means to override ones feelings when the stakes are high; the ways in which selling ones body, even when never paid, might be read as a form of prostitution; the impact of these actions on self-image; the ways in which the authors choices were motivated by her distorted body image and long-standing eating disorder; and finally what it means to have an opinion but no voice. Today the author has found her voice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While this book is about America in 2028 under a socialist government that no longer provides protection for its citizens and no longer believes public should have the right to protect themselves. That no longer believes our Constitution and Bill of Rights means the same as it did one hundred or even fifty years ago. Then calls this progress with their new ideas of how the nation should be run. While discarding old definitions to replace with their new interpretations. Forgetting past promises to balance the budget, control government spending. Free speech is redefined and limited; gun ownership is restricted to firearms that do not pose a problem against law enforcement. Even then very strict enforcement of very restrictive laws applies. Inter-structure means paying for government programs as well as repairing roads, dams, bridges and all it meant in the past. A time when Citizenship means nothing, and any human with their feet on American soil, all have the same rights. A time when inflation has grown so bad that retirement funds are valueless. Then only a small percentage of Americans are able to maintain a small standard of living in 2028.A time when opposition to the government is treason.

Book excerpt: The Deputy Superintendent Criminal Investigation CID Odongkara of Gulu Police Head Quarter was an Acholi married to a Muganda from the South of Uganda. The father of Odongkara was uncomfortable with the marriage because the southern ladies though renowned for their beauties, are wobbly in marriages which were direct contrast with the ladies from Odongkaras tribe. This phenomenon later manifested itself in Odongkaras marriage when his wife got involved in infidelity with Mukasa from the South of Uganda. This did not go well with Odongkara. That year on the eve of the New Year two criminal cases committed by unidentified criminals all leading to death were reported to Police Head quarter in Gulu. The Director of the Government Medical Research Institute in Kitgum was murdered and a child was killed by a hit and run car along Keyo road a suburb of Gulu town .The news reached Gulu Police Head quarter when Mukasa was with the wife of Odongkara at Odongkaras house who was away on official duty. Because of the gravity of the Kitgum murder, Odongkara, a well trained CID officer who used all his senses and charm to investigate crimes, was immediately assigned to go with a team comprising of a pathologist, a figure print expert, and a photographer to solve the crime. A briefing by Mukasa was held in his office in the morning before they departed for Kitgum. Odongkara arrived late for the briefing because, he noted blood mark on the right wheels of the official car of Mukasa. He sampled the staff to be delivered to their forensic laboratory for Identification.

Book excerpt: Lord, Please Don't Let Her See Me Cry is a true story of child abuse so atrocious I have suffered from it for over fifty years, having not only the endure the memory but also being forced to see the scars every time I change my clothes. I only survived because of my faith in God and God's mercy on me. As a child, I promised God that if he would see me through, I would one day pay him back by helping other children in similar situations. I hope this book helps bring the attention of the world to the problem of child abuse so that the abusers may be punished and the abused healed. Please help the children of the world.
