Book Synopsis Eat Like a Pig, Run Like a Horse by : Anastacia Marx de Salcedo
Download or read book Eat Like a Pig, Run Like a Horse written by Anastacia Marx de Salcedo and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-07-05 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no magic pill. There is no perfect diet. Could it be that our underlying assumption—that what we’re eating is making us fat and sick—is just plain wrong? To address the rapid rise of “lifestyle diseases” like diabetes and heart disease, scientists have conducted a whopping 500,000 studies of diet and another 300,000 of obesity. Journalists have written close to 250 million news articles combined about these topics. Yet nothing seems to halt the epidemic. Anastacia Marx de Salcedo’s Eat Like a Pig, Run Like a Horse looks not just to data-driven science, but to animals and the natural world around us for a new approach. What she finds will transform the national debate about the root causes of our most pervasive diseases and offer hope of dramatically reducing the number who suffer—no matter what they eat. It all began with her own medical miracle—she has multiple sclerosis but has discovered that daily exercise was key to keeping it from progressing. And now, new research backs up her own experience. This revelation prompted Marx de Salcedo to ask what would happen if people with lifestyle illnesses put physical activity front and center in their daily lives? Eat Like a Pig, Run Like a Horse takes us on a fascinating journey that weaves together true confessions, mad(ish) scientists, and beguiling animal stories. Marx de Salcedo shows that we need to move beyond our current diet-focused model to a new, dynamic concept of metabolism as regulated by exercise. Suddenly the answer to good health is almost embarrassingly simple. Don’t worry about what you eat. Worry about how much you move. In a few years’ time, adhering to a finicky Keto, Paleo, low-carb, or any other special diet to stay healthy will be as antiquated as using Daffy’s Elixir or Dr. Bonker’s Celebrated Egyptian Oil—popular “medicines” from the 1800s—to cure disease. And just as the 19th-century health revolution was based on a new understanding that the true cause of malaria, tuberculosis, and cholera was microorganisms, so the coming 21st-century one will be based on our new understanding that exercise is the only way to metabolic health. Fascinating and brilliant, Eat Like a Pig, Run Like a Horse is primed to usher in that new era.
Book Synopsis Using God's Word As Medicine by : Monica Thornton
Download or read book Using God's Word As Medicine written by Monica Thornton and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take these prescribed pills, and call the doctor (the Holy Spirit) in the morning! The best known people in the Bible are God and his Son, Jesus, whom he sent to this earth two thousand years ago. He sent his Son for a reason, and that reason was to let everybody on this earth know that there is a Savior. Jesus left us with a word before he left, and his word was that he would leave us with peace. When will we take this and make it applicable to our lives? We have troubles all around us. But the Holy Spirit is there for us. Some of us don't even think to say, "Good morning," to the Holy Spirit, who wakes us up each day. We just go along our way. Here are some of the issues in this book that we face, and the Holy Spirit helps us along the way with a word from the Bible. Finances is a major problem in today's society. We invest in the stock market, lottery, casinos, and other investments that take money right out of our hands. However, the Holy Spirit tells us to invest only in him, and he will supply all our needs. He tells us to test him and see if he won't open up the heavens and pour you out a blessing. The Holy Spirit has a word for our enemies too. The Old Testament says, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." However, when we come up against the enemy, the Holy Spirit tells us in the New Testament that the battle is his, not ours. The Spirit saves us from going to jail or to our graves. The Holy Spirit knows what's best for us. Don't our emotions get out of context! We are emotional people on this earth. We let some of the smallest things upset us. Then we end up taking it out on our family and friends. We end up always on the losing end and later apologize for our mistakes. However, as you read this book, you'll find scripture in the Bible stating, "We do not fight against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, against the powers of this dark world and spiritual forces of evil." Wow! We've been fighting the wrong person. The devil does come to steal, kill, and destroy. The list goes on and on from our marriages, finances, and family. My book will not only lead you to do the right things in life but lead you into the hands of God, which is the Bible. We all must evangelize God's word in this fallen world! Let's do so before we go home to our Father, who is in heaven. Then he'll say, "Job well done, thy good and faithful servant!"

Book excerpt: A mother of small children trusts her 'gut feelings' and it saves her life. A young dad is able to grieve for his lost baby – using a song. What if there were parts of our minds which we never use, but if awakened, could make us so much happier, connected and alive? What if awakening those parts could bring peace to the conflicts and struggles we all go through? From the cutting edge, where therapy meets neuroscience, Steve Biddulph explores the new concept of 'supersense' – the feelings beneath our feelings – which can guide us to a more awake and free way of living every minute of our lives. And the Four-storey Mansion, a way of using your mind that can be taught to a five-year-old, but can also help the most damaged adult. In Fully Human, Steve Biddulph draws on deeply personal stories from his own life, as well of those of his clients, and from the frontiers of thinking about how the brain works with the body and the wisdom of the 'wild creature' inside all of us. At the peak of a lifetime's work, one of the world's best-known psychotherapists and educators shows how you can be more alive, more connected. More FULLY HUMAN. Book Synopsis Don’t Make Me Go to Town by : Rhonda Lashley Lopez
Download or read book Don’t Make Me Go to Town written by Rhonda Lashley Lopez and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2011-03-29 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people dream of "someday buying a small quaint place in the country, to own two cows and watch the birds," in the words of Texas ranchwoman Amanda Spenrath Geistweidt. But only a few are cut out for the unrelenting work that makes a family ranching operation successful. Don't Make Me Go to Town presents an eloquent photo-documentary of eight women who have chosen to make ranching in the Texas Hill Country their way of life. Ranging from young mothers to elderly grandmothers, these women offer vivid accounts of raising livestock in a rugged land, cut off from amenities and amusements that most people take for granted, and loving the hard lives they've chosen. Rhonda Lashley Lopez began making photographic portraits of Texas Hill Country ranchwomen in 1993 and has followed their lives through the intervening years. She presents their stories through her images and the women's own words, listening in as the ranchwomen describe the pleasures and difficulties of raising sheep, Angora goats, and cattle on the Edwards Plateau west of Austin and north of San Antonio. Their stories record the struggles that all ranchers face—vagaries of weather and livestock markets, among them—as well as the extra challenges of being women raising families and keeping things going on the home front while also riding the range. Yet, to a woman, they all passionately embrace family ranching as a way of life and describe their efforts to pass it on to future generations.
