Download or read book Understanding and implementing catch documentation schemes written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2022-02-04 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catch documentation schemes (CDS) are just one in an array of tools designed to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The schemes provide a means for countries to cooperate in providing information about the legality of fish as it moves through the supply chain, from catch to market. Many countries are familiar with the specific information requirements on CDS forms; some, however, are less aware of the need for robust national systems to validate and verify that information. This document seeks to align and improve existing national monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) tools, as well as product tracking systems, in order to support more effective national CDS implementation and strengthen CDS throughout the international supply chain. The document contains chapters on the legal and policy background to CDS, an introduction to the features and requirements of existing schemes, as well as guidance on how to handle CDS information requirements and identify national key data elements. Finally, it provides a series of exercises for assessing relevant national capabilities and coordination processes, including the management and exchange of information.

Book Synopsis Interactive Sketch-based Interfaces and Modelling for Design by : Alexandra Bonnici
Download or read book Interactive Sketch-based Interfaces and Modelling for Design written by Alexandra Bonnici and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sketching is a natural and intuitive communication tool used for expressing concepts and ideas that are difficult to communicate through text or speech alone. In design applications, drawings are used at various stages of the design process: from the early concept drawings scribbled on a piece of paper to immersive interactions in which users manipulate and adjust the 3D form of an object in virtual or augmented reality environments. This variety in drawing activities brings about the need for different interpretation strategies that support not only the sketching activity itself, but also allow sketch-based interactions, such as sketch-based queries, to take place. In this book, we explore the different drawing approaches used in design and the algorithms required for processing and interpreting the different sketches and drawings in design. The book is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on sketching in the 2D domain. This includes the digitization of offline and paperbased sketches, techniques for online sketch recognition, observations of user drawing habits, algorithms for inferring depth from 2D drawings, as well as non-photorealistic rendering techniques that are then applied to sketch-based queries. The second part of the book focuses on 3D sketching in virtual or augmented reality spaces. Here, we present the processing and rendering of the 3D strokes, the different interaction devices available for 3D sketching, and look at different applications where immersive 3D sketching has been applied with success.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains all papers presented at SSPR 2002 and SPR 2002 hosted by the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada, August 6-9, 2002. This was the third time these two workshops were held back-to-back. SSPR was the ninth International Workshop on Structural and Syntactic Pattern Recognition and the SPR was the fourth International Workshop on Statis- cal Techniques in Pattern Recognition. These workshops have traditionally been held in conjunction with ICPR (International Conference on Pattern Recog- tion), and are the major events for technical committees TC2 and TC1, resp- tively, of the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR). The workshops were held in parallel and closely coordinated. This was an attempt to resolve the dilemma of how to deal, in the light of the progressive specialization of pattern recognition, with the need for narrow-focus workshops without further fragmenting the ?eld and introducing yet another conference that would compete for the time and resources of potential participants. A total of 116 papers were received from many countries with the submission and reviewingprocesses beingcarried out separately for each workshop. A total of 45 papers were accepted for oral presentation and 35 for posters. In addition four invited speakers presented informative talks and overviews of their research. They were: Tom Dietterich, Oregon State University, USA Sven Dickinson, the University of Toronto, Canada Edwin Hancock, University of York, UK Anil Jain, Michigan State University, USA SSPR 2002 and SPR 2002 were sponsored by the IAPR and the University of Windsor.

Book Synopsis Trust and Records in an Open Digital Environment by : Hrvoje Stančić
Download or read book Trust and Records in an Open Digital Environment written by Hrvoje Stančić and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-30 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trust and Records in an Open Digital Environment explores issues that arise when digital records are entrusted to the cloud and will help professionals to make informed choices in the context of a rapidly changing digital economy. Showing that records need to ensure public trust, especially in the era of alternative truths, this volume argues that reliable resources, which are openly accessible from governmental institutions, e-services, archival institutions, digital repositories, and cloud-based digital archives, are the key to an open digital environment. The book also demonstrates that current established practices need to be reviewed and amended to include the networked nature of the cloud-based records, to investigate the role of new players, like cloud service providers (CSP), and assess the potential for implementing new, disruptive technologies like blockchain. Stančić and the contributors address these challenges by taking three themes – state, citizens, and documentary form – and discussing their interaction in the context of open government, open access, recordkeeping, and digital preservation. Exploring what is needed to enable the establishment of an open digital environment, Trust and Records in an Open Digital Environment should be essential reading for data, information, document, and records management professionals. It will also be a key text for archivists, librarians, professors, and students working in the information sciences and other related fields.
Book Synopsis Proceedings of the 2003 ACM Symposium on Document Engineering by : Christine Vanoirbeek
Download or read book Proceedings of the 2003 ACM Symposium on Document Engineering written by Christine Vanoirbeek and published by Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). This book was released on 2003 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We introduce a lazy XSLT interpreter that provides random access to the transformation result. This allows efficient pipelining of transformation sequences. Nodes of the result tree are computed only upon initial access. As these computations have limited fan-in, sparse output coverage propagates backwards through the pipeline. In comparative measurements with traditional eager implementations, our approach is on par for complete coverage and excels as coverage becomes sparser. In contrast to eager evaluation, lazy evaluation also admits infinite intermediate results, thus extending the design space for transformation sequences. To demonstrate that lazy evaluation preserves the semantics of XSLT, we reduce XSLT to the lambda calculus via a functional language. While this is possible for all languages, most imperative languages cannot profit from the confluence of lambda as only one reduction applies at a time.
Download or read book Content Computing written by Chi-Hung Chi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-01-25 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the Advanced Workshop on Content Computing 2004. The focus of this workshop was "Content Computing". It emphasized research areas that facilitate efficient, appropriate dissemination of content to users with the necessary access rights. We use the word "content" instead of "information" or "data" because we want to cover not only raw data but also presentation quality. The fast growth of the Internet has already made it the key infrastructure for information dissemination, education, business and entertainment. While the client-server model has been the most widely adopted paradigm for the WWW, the desire to provide more value-added services in the delivery layer has led to the concept of an active network, where content-driven, intelligent computation will be performed to provide quality-of-service for content presentation and best-?t client demand. These value-added services typically aim to enhance information security, provide pervasive Internet access, and improve application robustness, system/network performance, knowledge extraction, etc. They are realized by incorporating sophisticated mechanisms at the delivery layer, which is transparent to the content providers and Web surfers. Consequently, the notion of "Content Computing" has emerged. Content computing is a new paradigm for coordinating distributed systems and intelligent networks, based on a peer-to-peer model and with value-added processing of the application-specific contents at the - livery layer. This paradigm is especially useful to pervasive lightweight client devices such as mobile and portable end-user terminals with a wide variation of hardware/software configurations. This year, the workshop was held in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, China. We received 194 high-quality papers from 11 regions, namely PR China, Korea, Singapore, Japan, United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Taiwan, Italy, and Hong Kong. Totally, 62 papers were accepted and presented in the workshop.
