Book excerpt: Feeling dead in her marriage, Elizabeth Fairchild ditches the dream of her seemingly perfect life with her husband in search of who she really is. She went from her parents' house to her husband's home and never really learned to stand on her own two feet. She decides to leave her comfortable life in Napa Valley in search of her inner fire in New York City. She certainly didn't leave her husband to find another man, but she soon finds herself involved with two: Jack Stevens and Kevin Parker. Jack is older. He has heart-stopping good looks, is wildly successful, and is very much in control of everything around him - especially Elizabeth. Kevin is younger. He is carefree with a heart of gold and loves Elizabeth's spunk. While Elizabeth's old life still calls to her, she also finds what she needs in New York. But which dream will she choose?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries, men dreamed of cutting a canal across the Florida peninsula. Intended to reduce shipping times, it was championed in the early twentieth century as a way to make the mostly rural state a center of national commerce and trade. Rejected by the Army Corps of Engineers as "not worthy," the project received continued support from Florida legislators. Federal funding was eventually allocated and work began in the 1930s, but the canal quickly became a lightning rod for controversy. Steven Noll and David Tegeder trace the twists and turns of the project through the years, drawing on a wealth of archival and primary sources. Far from being a simplistic morality tale of good environmentalists versus evil canal developers, the story of the Cross Florida Barge Canal is a complex one of competing interests amid the changing political landscape of modern Florida. Thanks to the unprecedented success of environmental citizen activists, construction was halted in 1971, though it took another twenty years for the project to be canceled. Though the land intended for the canal was deeded to the state and converted into the Cross Florida Greenway, certain aspects of the dispute--including the fate of Rodman Reservoir--have yet to be resolved.

To escape that suffocating environment, the miners tell tales of frustrated love affairs, revenge, dreams, and witchcraft which are written down and retold by a worker nicknamed Foureyes. The novel is spiced with scatological and picaresque scenes, witchcraft spells and mythological beings, along with science-fiction inventions such as a Pleasurematic. Readers have recognized scenes alluding to classical literary works, biblical passages, adventure novels, old movie serials, and contemporary films. Ditched Dreams is a cavalcade in which down-to-earth Brazilian humor provokes non-stop Rabelaisian laughter as the whip of social criticism. The narrative, essentially oral, includes samples of the vast linguistic mosaic found in Brazilian Portuguese, dexterously adapted into a literary dialect that evokes vernacular English from everywhere and nowhere in particular.

Book excerpt: Ditch is a subversive, compelling portrait of a young man's plunge into adulthood, set in Toronto, Buffalo and the suburbs of Maryland. Niedzviecki's prose quickly dumps you into the head of Ditch, awkward, aimless, endearing — still living with his mom, driving a delivery van to get by — and into the rather more complicated mind, diary, e-mail and website of a young runaway who moves into the upstairs apartment. Debs is beautiful, tortured and much projected upon, largely because of the kind of pictures of herself she puts up on her website. Both she and Ditch are searching for absent pasts and possible futures, and Debs is on the run from something particularly nasty. Ditch is a sudden stumble into an instantly recognizable, constantly shifting, unforgettable world where everything happens through the filters of memory and modems.

Book excerpt: Have you ever told yourself -this is my year- only to wake up 365 days later when another New Year, birthday or anniversary comes around - yet nothing's changed? If you answered yes, say hello to Unresolution - a proven system designed to help you break through and achieve the life of your dreams without spending any more time sitting on the sidelines hoping and wishing for something better. You want the truth? New Year's Resolutions don't work. Actually, the entire -this year I promise- mindset leaves well-intentioned people like you worse off, not better. Each year, people watch their self-confidence evaporate because they fell short of their dreams -one more time- - they lose the belief they can make life different, creating a vicious cycle that leads nowhere, fast. How about a better way? Would you like to: -Choose to step into greatness and move forward, regardless of the time in your life; -Strategically design a life on fire, with the purpose, people, places and environments you love; -Achieve your dream results - feeling invigorated and alive; and, -Defeat fear, self-doubt and insecurity, burning them as fuel for your success? Welcome to UnResolution, your new life awaits. Standing on an icy cold football field in January of 2015, Tommy Baker made a decision and uncovered a startling discovery that led him to create a new life, ripping out everything he had known and believed in the process. Through this experience (and the subsequent launch of a platform sharing the principles of success, achievement and fulfillment of the world's top visionaries, athletes and entrepreneurs) - a new paradigm was born. If you're tired of reading self-help books that lead to nowhere... If you're ready to maximize your abilities... If you're frustrated with being a spectator in life... ...this paradigm is for you. Now, it's now in your hands.

Book excerpt: Dorfman portrays, through visceral scenes and powerful intellect, the personal and political maelstroms underlying his migrations from Buenos Aires, on the run from Pinochet's death squads, to safe houses in Paris and Amsterdam, and eventually to America, his childhood home. The toll on Dorfman's wife and two sons, the 'earthquake of language' that is bilingualism, and his eventual questioning of his allegiance to past and party - all these crucibles of a life in exile are revealed with wry and startling honesty. Feeding on Dreams is a passionate reminder that 'we are all exiles', that we are all 'threatened with annihilation if we do not find and celebrate the refuge of common humanity', as Dorfman did during his 'decades of loss and resurrection'.

As God molded her in His hands, He purposed her for His works and for His people. From the cradle to the pulpit this Prophetess was destined to bring forth the word of God with the anointing and power. Hearing the call in her tender years, Antoinette began her ministry with a Yes Lord, her am I, and sojourns her call in the path of ministerial greatness. With an ear to hear His voice, and her affections toward heavenly matters, this Prophetess is unmovable and unstoppable on her mission. In her childhood years it was evident Antoinette was a gifted child; peculiar, anointed and called to ministry. As the gift of prophecy manifested through her voice, and prophetic dreams became perceptible through full materialization, the mantel as Gods Prophetess was apparent. Prophetess White is the wife of the powerful Apostle Michael S. White Jr. and mother of six children. These two anointed vessels established Remnant Apostolic Prophetic Outreach (wwwrapoutreach.org).

Book excerpt: "Ellen Bennett is the platonic form of a go-getter who inspires go-getter after go-getter to become a better go-getter."—Zooey Deschanel, actor and musician You’ll never know where to start…until you start. This gutsy guidebook will help anyone who's procrastinating on a goal, career change, or business idea stop the obsessive worrying and leap into action. As a 24-year-old line cook, Ellen Marie Bennett couldn't stand the kitchen staff’s poorly designed, cheaply made aprons. So when her head chef announced he was ordering a new batch, she blurted out, “Chef, I have an apron company”—even though she had no company, no business plan—just a glimmer of a design idea and a business license. Through hustle and a willingness to leap into the unknown, time and time again, she built that first order into a multi-million-dollar company called Hedley & Bennett, making aprons and kitchen gear worn by many of the world’s best chefs and home cooks everywhere. Dream First, Details Later shares Ellen's journey and her forged-in-the-fire personal playbook for starting before you stop yourself. If you've ever imagined doing something and immediately thought, "that's impossible," or "I wouldn't even know where to start," or "I'm not qualified to do that," in these pages, you'll learn how to shove aside your inner worrier and launch into action. This honest and bold illustrated book will be like having Ellen—your personal hype woman—there with you, all the while yelling, "Don't stop! You got this!" She'll share hard-won advice on: • Squashing doubts and reservations about venturing outside your comfort zone. (These doubts masquerade as rational, but they’re more likely coming from a place of fear.) • Saying screw it to the perfect plan and using creative problem-solving—and heart and guts—to conquer the shit storms as they come. • Eventually transitioning from the "flying by the seat of your pants" stage to the "well-oiled machine" stage. You don't need to have all the answers to make your dream a reality. You just need to start before you're ready.
