Book Synopsis Minimal Flows and Their Extensions by : J. Auslander

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents developments in the abstract theory of topological dynamics, concentrating on the internal structure of minimal flows (actions of groups on compact Hausdorff spaces for which every orbit is dense) and their homomorphisms (continuous equivariant maps). Various classes of minimal flows (equicontinuous, distal, point distal) are intensively studied, and a general structure theorem is obtained. Another theme is the ``universal'' approach - entire classes of minimal flows are studied, rather than flows in isolation. This leads to the consideration of disjointness of flows, which is a kind of independence condition. Among the topics unique to this book are a proof of the Ellis ``joint continuity theorem'', a characterization of the equicontinuous structure relation, and the aforementioned structure theorem for minimal flows.

Book Synopsis Elements of Topological Dynamics by : J. de Vries
Download or read book Elements of Topological Dynamics written by J. de Vries and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 762 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed as an introduction into what I call 'abstract' Topological Dynamics (TO): the study of topological transformation groups with respect to problems that can be traced back to the qualitative theory of differential equa is in the tradition of the books [GH] and [EW. The title tions. So this book (,Elements . . . ' rather than 'Introduction . . . ') does not mean that this book should be compared, either in scope or in (intended) impact, with the 'Ele ments' of Euclid or Bourbaki. Instead, it reflects the choice and organisation of the material in this book: elementary and basic (but sufficient to understand recent research papers in this field). There are still many challenging prob lems waiting for a solution, and especially among general topologists there is a growing interest in this direction. However, the technical inaccessability of many research papers makes it almost impossible for an outsider to under stand what is going on. To a large extent, this inaccessability is caused by the lack of a good and systematic exposition of the fundamental methods and techniques of abstract TO. This book is an attempt to fill this gap. The guiding principle for the organization of the material in this book has been the exposition of methods and techniques rather than a discussion of the leading problems and their solutions. though the latter are certainly not neglected: they are used as a motivation wherever possible.

Book Synopsis Stability and Bifurcation Theory for Non-Autonomous Differential Equations by : Anna Capietto
Download or read book Stability and Bifurcation Theory for Non-Autonomous Differential Equations written by Anna Capietto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-14 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the notes from five lecture courses devoted to nonautonomous differential systems, in which appropriate topological and dynamical techniques were described and applied to a variety of problems. The courses took place during the C.I.M.E. Session "Stability and Bifurcation Problems for Non-Autonomous Differential Equations," held in Cetraro, Italy, June 19-25 2011. Anna Capietto and Jean Mawhin lectured on nonlinear boundary value problems; they applied the Maslov index and degree-theoretic methods in this context. Rafael Ortega discussed the theory of twist maps with nonperiodic phase and presented applications. Peter Kloeden and Sylvia Novo showed how dynamical methods can be used to study the stability/bifurcation properties of bounded solutions and of attracting sets for nonautonomous differential and functional-differential equations. The volume will be of interest to all researchers working in these and related fields.

Book Synopsis Almost Automorphic and Almost Periodic Dynamics in Skew-Product Semiflows by : Wenxian Shen
Download or read book Almost Automorphic and Almost Periodic Dynamics in Skew-Product Semiflows written by Wenxian Shen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the study of almost automorphic dynamics in differential equations. By making use of techniques from abstract topological dynamics, it is shown that almost automorphy, a notion which was introduced by S. Bochner in 1955, is essential and fundamental in the qualitative study of almost periodic differential equations.

Book Synopsis Recent Progress in General Topology by : M. Husek
Download or read book Recent Progress in General Topology written by M. Husek and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-11-20 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These papers survey the developments in General Topology and the applications of it which have taken place since the mid 1980s. The book may be regarded as an update of some of the papers in the Handbook of Set-Theoretic Topology (eds. Kunen/Vaughan, North-Holland, 1984), which gives an almost complete picture of the state of the art of Set Theoretic Topology before 1984. In the present volume several important developments are surveyed that surfaced in the period 1984-1991. This volume may also be regarded as a partial update of Open Problems in Topology (eds. van Mill/Reed, North-Holland, 1990). Solutions to some of the original 1100 open problems are discussed and new problems are posed.

Download or read book Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems written by Idris Assani and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the proceedings of the workshop on recent developments in ergodic theory and dynamical systems on March 2011 and March 2012 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The articles in this volume cover several aspects of vibrant research in ergodic theory and dynamical systems. It contains contributions to Teichmuller dynamics, interval exchange transformations, continued fractions, return times averages, Furstenberg Fractals, fractal geometry of non-uniformly hyperbolic horseshoes, convergence along the sequence of squares, adic and horocycle flows, and topological flows. These contributions illustrate the connections between ergodic theory and dynamical systems, number theory, harmonic analysis, probability, and algebra. Two surveys are included which give a nice introduction for interested young or senior researcher to some active research areas. Overall this volume provides a very useful blend of techniques and methods as well as directions of research on general convergence phenomena in ergodic theory and dynamical systems.
