Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Advances in Liquid-liquid Extraction focuses on the applications of liquid extraction. The selection first discusses solvent extraction. Concerns include organic and inorganic separations, mass transfer process, solvent extraction economics, and coalescence in liquid-liquid systems. The book focuses on the chemistry of solvent extraction. Extraction by acidic organophosphorus compounds; extraction by phosphorus-bonded oxygen-donor solvents; extraction by high-molecular weight amines; and synergistic extraction are elaborated. The book also focuses on industrial organic processes; industrial contacting equipment; response characteristics and control of extraction processes; and calculation of contactors with longitudinal mixing. The selection presents the study of longitudinal mixing in liquid-liquid contactors. Rotating disc contactors, packed columns, vibrating plate extractors, and Oldshue-Rushton columns are described. The text also discusses heat transfer by direct liquid-liquid contact and the coalescence of liquid droplets and liquid dispersion. The selection is a vital source of data for readers interested in liquid extraction.

Book Synopsis Science and Practice of Liquid-liquid Extraction: Phase equilibria, mass transfer and interfacial phenomena, extractor hydrodynamics, selection, and design by : John D. Thornton
Download or read book Science and Practice of Liquid-liquid Extraction: Phase equilibria, mass transfer and interfacial phenomena, extractor hydrodynamics, selection, and design written by John D. Thornton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents an up-to-date account of some of the fundamental aspects of liquid-liquid extraction technology together with an account of extraction processes in a number of important industries. The work is divided into two parts. Volume 1 is concerned with the thermodynamics of phase equilibria; mass transfer in liquid-liquid systems, including the complicating role of interfacial turbulence; behavior of liquid-liquid dispersions; and the selection and design of countercurrent contactors for particular applications. Volume 2 gives an account of the process chemistry and associated extraction operations in a number of industries of current interest. New extraction techniques have been developed in recent years for specific applications and these are illustrated with reference to the hydrometallurgical, nuclear, pharmaceutical and food industries.

Book Synopsis Solvent Extraction 1990 by : T. Sekine
Download or read book Solvent Extraction 1990 written by T. Sekine and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 870 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solvent extraction is employed very widely in both fundamental research and technology because of the remarkable features of this simple but very effective technique for the separation of different materials. The International Solvent Extraction Conference 1990 was a forum for the presentation of papers on up-to-date research in this field. The collection of the papers in these volumes will be invaluable because information on solvent extraction is often scattered in various journals and proceedings which make the following of developments difficult.

Book Synopsis Fundamental Drop Dynamics and Mass Transfer Experiments to Support Solvent Extraction Modeling Efforts by :
Download or read book Fundamental Drop Dynamics and Mass Transfer Experiments to Support Solvent Extraction Modeling Efforts written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In support of the Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling Simulation Safeguards and Separations (NEAMS SafeSep) program, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) worked in collaboration with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) to further a modeling effort designed to predict mass transfer behavior for selected metal species between individual dispersed drops and a continuous phase in a two phase liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) system. The purpose of the model is to understand the fundamental processes of mass transfer that occur at the drop interface. This fundamental understanding can be extended to support modeling of larger LLE equipment such as mixer settlers, pulse columns, and centrifugal contactors. The work performed at the INL involved gathering the necessary experimental data to support the modeling effort. A custom experimental apparatus was designed and built for performing drop contact experiments to measure mass transfer coefficients as a function of contact time. A high speed digital camera was used in conjunction with the apparatus to measure size, shape, and velocity of the drops. In addition to drop data, the physical properties of the experimental fluids were measured to be used as input data for the model. Physical properties measurements included density, viscosity, surface tension and interfacial tension. Additionally, self diffusion coefficients for the selected metal species in each experimental solution were measured, and the distribution coefficient for the metal partitioning between phases was determined. At the completion of this work, the INL has determined the mass transfer coefficient and a velocity profile for drops rising by buoyancy through a continuous medium under a specific set of experimental conditions. Additionally, a complete set of experimentally determined fluid properties has been obtained. All data will be provided to LANL to support the modeling effort.
