Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The movement of process theology is brought into creative interaction with political theology in this exciting new work by distinguished author John B. Cobb Jr. Confronted with the critical problems facing the global environment, the author seeks to overcome the abstractness that has kept process thought from achieving practical influence. Cobb reviews contemporary political theology in the works of major European theologians, Johann Baptist Metz, Jürgen Moltmann, and Dorothee Sölle, then surveys the movement in recent German theology. He examines the challenge of political theology in the tradition of the Chicago school and advocates broadening the horizons of political theology into the formulation of an ecological, rather than a sociological, theology. Process Theology as Political Theology responds to the challenge of providing a theological base for the Christian activist. Pastors, seminarians, and students will find it to be a stimulating evolutionary work, derived from the author’s concern for the planet earth.

Book Synopsis The Crucified God by : Jürgen Moltmann
Download or read book The Crucified God written by Jürgen Moltmann and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2015-11-01 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its English publication in 1973, Jrgen Moltmanns The Crucified God garnered much attention, and it has become one of the seminal texts of twentieth-century theology. Following up on his groundbreaking Theology of Hope, The Crucified God established the cross as the foundation for Christian hope. Moltmanns dramatic innovation was to see the cross not as a problem of theodicy but instead as an act of ultimate solidarity between God and humanity. In this, he drew on liberation theology, and he was among the first to bring third-world theologies into a first-world context. Moltmann proposes that suffering is not a problem to be solved but instead that suffering is an aspect of Gods very being: God is love, and love invariably involves suffering. In this view, the crucifixion of Jesus is an event that affects the entirety of the Trinity, showing that The Crucified God is more than an arresting titleit is a theological breakthrough.
Book Synopsis Die neue politische Theologie nach Johann Baptist Metz und die kritische Rezeption bei Joseph Ratzinger by : Alexander Winter

This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Was ist Erlösung eigentlich? [...]
Book Synopsis Politische Theologie by : Oliver Hidalgo
Download or read book Politische Theologie written by Oliver Hidalgo and published by Springer-Verlag. This book was released on 2018-01-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Remembering and Resisting by : Johann Baptist Metz
Download or read book Remembering and Resisting written by Johann Baptist Metz and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-08-18 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when we have never known more about our globe or shared more information, we live—paradoxically—in a driven, disconnected world. In science, in economics, our communications industry, and even in the public sphere, the human person tends to disappear from consideration or evaporate into an abstraction. The new political theology tries to break the spell of this cultural amnesia. These essays and interviews invite readers to consider the future by asking Where are we headed and what do we stand for. Johann Baptist Metz’s theology emerged as an attempt to understand shifting borders and threatening situations. It does not prescribe a political agenda or policies, but it does ask where we might stand if we are to shape a meaningful future together rather than in isolated or in ideological camps. Beginning with the spiritualty of his popular Poverty of Spirit, Metz developed a new method of theological inquiry for our anxious times. These essays represent the mature clarification of his earlier work.
Book Synopsis The Collected Works of Edward Schillebeeckx Volume 7 by : Edward Schillebeeckx
Download or read book The Collected Works of Edward Schillebeeckx Volume 7 written by Edward Schillebeeckx and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 1039 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christ. The Christian Experience in the Modern World focuses on the question of salvation for all people. Using seven 'anthropological constants', Schillebeeckx innovatively shows the social and political relevance of faith. Inspired by liberation and feminist theologies, he puts strong emphasis on human experience and on the importance of examining church teaching in its historical context. This volume is a testimony of Schillebeeckx' ground breaking attempt to rethink doctrine in the light of the research on the historical Jesus. Instead of starting with Christianity's great creedal statements about Christ and the Trinity, he focuses on the subjective experience of the first generations of believers as expressed in the New Testament. This choice stirred considerable controversy and a Vatican investigation but inspired and still keeps to inspire readers in their personal approach to Christian faith.
Book Synopsis The Ratzinger Reader by : Joseph Ratzinger
Download or read book The Ratzinger Reader written by Joseph Ratzinger and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2010-07-08 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `An invaluable, unique resource for readers of Roman Catholic theology' PHILIP ENDEAN, S.J., CAMPION HALL, OXFORD, UK `First as a theologian, then bishop and later the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Joseph Ratzinger is often thought to have moved steadily to the right. In this collection, Gerard Mannion and Lieven Boeve dispel such easy generalizations. With judiciously chosen and suitably lengthy extracts from Ratzinger's writings, accompanied by helpful editorial comments, these two leading European Catholic theologians demonstrate the continuity of the one Ratzinger and consequently shed light on the complexity of his present-day role as Pope. Anyone who wishes to understand better the current face of Roman theology is greatly in their debt.' PAUL LAKELAND, FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY, USA `An indispensable guide for understanding the theology of Joseph Ratzinger. Ratzinger insists that his theological opinions are distinct from his official positions as prefect and pope, but this collection shows otherwise. A very personal theology has become the official theology of the church.'---BRADFORD HINZE, FORDHAM UNIVERSITY, USA `Anyone attempting to gain serious familiarity with the theology of Joseph Ratzinger will find this book invaluable. It is not just a conventional reader but a uniquely structured, signposted guide through the terrain of Ratzinger's theology as a whole. It comes at exactly the right time in emerging Ratzinger scholarship, providing a pathway for the uninitiated as well as a compact one-volume resource for those who are further along the road. I recommend it highly.'-JAMES CORKERY, S.J., MILLTOWN INSTITUTE OF THEOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY, DUBLIN, IRELAND
