Denn die Medien erzeugen das Bild einer bunten, tolerierten, akzeptierten sowie integrierten Gruppe, die in der Mitte der Gesellschaft angekommen ist. Eine „Frau“ mit Bart gewinnt den Eurovision Song Contest, prominente Persönlichkeiten wie Klaus Wowereit, Guido Westerwelle oder Thomas Hitzlsperger werden als Aushängeschilder für eine zunehmend tolerante Gesellschaft herangezogen. Doch immer noch gibt es Berichte über Diskriminierungserfahrungen, Stigmatisierung und Ausgrenzung. Demnach muss das Erkennen einer eigenen Homosexualität auch einen Prozess mit sich ziehen, in dem der Einzelne lernt damit umzugehen. Das soll der Kern der dieser Arbeit sein. Wie lebt es sich als Homosexueller im 21. Jahrhundert in Deutschland? Welche Arten der Ausgrenzung lassen sich noch beobachten und wie hat sich dies im Laufe der Zeit verändert? Auf all diese Fragen werde ich versuchen eine Antwort zu finden. Wie der Titel schon deutlich macht, geht es in dieser Arbeit um männliche Homosexuelle. Auch wenn zwischendurch weibliche Homosexuelle erwähnt werden, so geschieht das auf Grund der Gemeinsamkeiten eines sexuellen Stigmas. Zu Beginn der Arbeit werde ich den Begriff Homosexualität definieren und erläutern. Im Anschluss daran wird versucht ein Blick auf die Verbreitung dieser zu werfen, was sich als schwierig erweist, da man nie alle Homosexuellen statistisch erfassen kann, möglicherweise auf Grund eines ausstehenden Outings. Im nächsten Schritt erfolgt ein historischer Rückblick, beginnend mit der Situation von Homosexuellen in der Antike bis hin zur Gegenwart. Im Anschluss daran werden Formen von gegenwärtigen Diskriminierungen und deren Motive erläutert. Ein letzter Abschnitt erfolgt im Hinblick auf die Folgen und die Auswirkungen bezüglich der Psyche, Gesundheit und der Lebenswelt der männlichen Homosexuellen.

Then, in a series of close readings, he addresses questions of race, sex, and globalization in the 1965 Wole Soyinka novel The Interpreters, examines the emblematic 1998 Lambeth conference of Anglican bishops, considers the imperial legacy in depictions of the HIV/AIDS crisis, and reveals how South African writer Phaswane Mpe’s contemporary novel Welcome to Our Hillbrow problematizes notions of African identity and cosmopolitanism. Hoad’s assessment of the historical valence of homosexuality in Africa shows how the category has served a key role in a larger story, one in which sexuality has been made in line with a vision of white Western truth, limiting an understanding of intimacy that could imagine an African universalism.
