Download or read book Jana Sterbak written by Söke Dinkla and published by Verlag Fur Moderne Kunst. This book was released on 2017 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Galerie im Taxispalais is showing the first comprehensive retrospective in Austria of work by Czech-Canadian artist Jana Sterbak (*1955 in Prague, lives and works in Montre'al). Examination of the body and identity, materiality and the processual plays a key part in Sterbak's multifaceted oeuvre. In her sculptural, performative, photographic and film works she generates both direct and indirect references to the conflicts of the human subject in the context of contemporary society, testing its extension as well as limitations, indicating its vulnerability as well as resilience, and sounding out the transition from the intimate to the public sphere. At the same time, subversive and ironic-humorous echoes resonate in Sterbak's works, helping her to uncover social conventions, constraints and role cliche's. In collaboration with Lehmbruck Museum Duisburg. Accompanies the exhibition Jana Sterbak: Life-Size, at Galerie im Taxispalais, Austria, 3 December 2016 - 12 February 2017. English and German text.
Download or read book Kern Noir written by Richard Kern and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most transgressive of American photographers, Richard Kern makes brazen portraits of enticing nude women. But if his photographs easily cross over into the world of pornography, they are distinguished from prosaic porn by their beauty and, more importantly, their treatment of voyeurism as a theme. As Kern once said, "the best part of anything is watching," and through his photographs, he not only seduces the viewer into looking but forces a subsequent recognition of his or her own voyeurism. This publication presents a new series of black and white photographs.

Download or read book Castellani written by Enrico Castellani and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enrico Castellani was born in Castelmassa (Rovigo) in 1930. He began his artistic career in the milieu of Informale though he soon broke away from this movement. In 1959-60, in Milan, he and Piero Manzoni founded the magazine and art gallery Azimuth, which looked to the rationalist, analytic and constructivist climate emerging on the international scene. Castellani, who was specifically interested in the relation between space and light, did not hesitate to modify the actual structure of the picture, thus creating surfaces modulated by a rhythm of volumes and voids that may be constant or infinitely varied. This is the most extensive book published to date on the figure and oeuvre of Castellani. It analyzes his early 1958 drawings and canvases, his subsequent major installations and his recent works dating from 1992.
