Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Encyclopedia of Systems and Control collects a broad range of short expository articles that describe the current state of the art in the central topics of control and systems engineering as well as in many of the related fields in which control is an enabling technology. The editors have assembled the most comprehensive reference possible, and this has been greatly facilitated by the publisher’s commitment continuously to publish updates to the articles as they become available in the future. Although control engineering is now a mature discipline, it remains an area in which there is a great deal of research activity, and as new developments in both theory and applications become available, they will be included in the online version of the encyclopedia. A carefully chosen team of leading authorities in the field has written the well over 250 articles that comprise the work. The topics range from basic principles of feedback in servomechanisms to advanced topics such as the control of Boolean networks and evolutionary game theory. Because the content has been selected to reflect both foundational importance as well as subjects that are of current interest to the research and practitioner communities, a broad readership that includes students, application engineers, and research scientists will find material that is of interest.

Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems, Control, Coding, Computer Vision by : Giorgio Picci
Download or read book Dynamical Systems, Control, Coding, Computer Vision written by Giorgio Picci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-03 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of essays devoted in part to new research direc tions in systems, networks, and control theory, and in part to the growing interaction of these disciplines with new sectors of engineering and applied sciences like coding, computer vision, and hybrid systems. These are new areas of rapid growth and of increasing importance in modern technology. The essays, written by world-leading experts in the field, reproduce and expand the plenary and minicoursejminisymposia invited lectures which were delivered at the Mathematical Theory of Networks and Systems Sym posium (MTNS-98), held in Padova, Italy, on July 6-10, 1998. Systems, control, and networks theory has permeated the development of much of present day technology. The impact has been visible in the past fifty years through the dramatic expansion and achievements of the aerospace and avionics industry, through process control and factory au tomation, robotics, communication signals analysis and synthesis, and, more recently, even finance, to name just the most visible applications. The theory has developed from the early phase of its history when the ba sic tools were elementary complex analysis, Laplace transform, and linear differential equations, to present day, where the mathematics ranges widely from functional analysis, PDE's, abstract algebra, stochastic processes and differential geometry. Irrespective of the particular tools, however, the ba sic unifying paradigms of feedback, stability, optimal control, and recursive filtering, have remained the bulk of the field and continue to be the basic motivation for the theory, coming from the real world.
Book Synopsis Feedback Control Theory by : John C. Doyle
Download or read book Feedback Control Theory written by John C. Doyle and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An excellent introduction to feedback control system design, this book offers a theoretical approach that captures the essential issues and can be applied to a wide range of practical problems. Its explorations of recent developments in the field emphasize the relationship of new procedures to classical control theory, with a focus on single input and output systems that keeps concepts accessible to students with limited backgrounds. The text is geared toward a single-semester senior course or a graduate-level class for students of electrical engineering. The opening chapters constitute a basic treatment of feedback design. Topics include a detailed formulation of the control design program, the fundamental issue of performance/stability robustness tradeoff, and the graphical design technique of loopshaping. Subsequent chapters extend the discussion of the loopshaping technique and connect it with notions of optimality. Concluding chapters examine controller design via optimization, offering a mathematical approach that is useful for multivariable systems.
Book Synopsis Digital Control Systems by : Ioan Doré Landau
Download or read book Digital Control Systems written by Ioan Doré Landau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-11 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extraordinary development of digital computers (microprocessors, microcontrollers) and their extensive use in control systems in all fields of applications has brought about important changes in the design of control systems. Their performance and their low cost make them suitable for use in control systems of various kinds which demand far better capabilities and performances than those provided by analog controllers. However, in order really to take advantage of the capabilities of microprocessors, it is not enough to reproduce the behavior of analog (PID) controllers. One needs to implement specific and high-performance model based control techniques developed for computer-controlled systems (techniques that have been extensively tested in practice). In this context identification of a plant dynamic model from data is a fundamental step in the design of the control system. The book takes into account the fact that the association of books with software and on-line material is radically changing the teaching methods of the control discipline. Despite its interactive character, computer-aided control design software requires the understanding of a number of concepts in order to be used efficiently. The use of software for illustrating the various concepts and algorithms helps understanding and rapidly gives a feeling of the various phenomena.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Linear Control Systems by : Yazdan Bavafa-Toosi
Download or read book Introduction to Linear Control Systems written by Yazdan Bavafa-Toosi and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 1135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Linear Control Systems is designed as a standard introduction to linear control systems for all those who one way or another deal with control systems. It can be used as a comprehensive up-to-date textbook for a one-semester 3-credit undergraduate course on linear control systems as the first course on this topic at university. This includes the faculties of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, chemical and petroleum engineering, industrial engineering, civil engineering, bio-engineering, economics, mathematics, physics, management and social sciences, etc. The book covers foundations of linear control systems, their raison detre, different types, modelling, representations, computations, stability concepts, tools for time-domain and frequency-domain analysis and synthesis, and fundamental limitations, with an emphasis on frequency-domain methods. Every chapter includes a part on further readings where more advanced topics and pertinent references are introduced for further studies. The presentation is theoretically firm, contemporary, and self-contained. Appendices cover Laplace transform and differential equations, dynamics, MATLAB and SIMULINK, treatise on stability concepts and tools, treatise on Routh-Hurwitz method, random optimization techniques as well as convex and non-convex problems, and sample midterm and endterm exams. The book is divided to the sequel 3 parts plus appendices. PART I: In this part of the book, chapters 1-5, we present foundations of linear control systems. This includes: the introduction to control systems, their raison detre, their different types, modelling of control systems, different methods for their representation and fundamental computations, basic stability concepts and tools for both analysis and design, basic time domain analysis and design details, and the root locus as a stability analysis and synthesis tool. PART II: In this part of the book, Chapters 6-9, we present what is generally referred to as the frequency domain methods. This refers to the experiment of applying a sinusoidal input to the system and studying its output. There are basically three different methods for representation and studying of the data of the aforementioned frequency response experiment: these are the Nyquist plot, the Bode diagram, and the Krohn-Manger-Nichols chart. We study these methods in details. We learn that the output is also a sinusoid with the same frequency but generally with different phase and magnitude. By dividing the output by the input we obtain the so-called sinusoidal or frequency transfer function of the system which is the same as the transfer function when the Laplace variable s is substituted with . Finally we use the Bode diagram for the design process. PART III: In this part, Chapter 10, we introduce some miscellaneous advanced topics under the theme fundamental limitations which should be included in this undergraduate course at least in an introductory level. We make bridges between some seemingly disparate aspects of a control system and theoretically complement the previously studied subjects. Appendices: The book contains seven appendices. Appendix A is on the Laplace transform and differential equations. Appendix B is an introduction to dynamics. Appendix C is an introduction to MATLAB, including SIMULINK. Appendix D is a survey on stability concepts and tools. A glossary and road map of the available stability concepts and tests is provided which is missing even in the research literature. Appendix E is a survey on the Routh-Hurwitz method, also missing in the literature. Appendix F is an introduction to random optimization techniques and convex and non-convex problems. Finally, appendix G presents sample midterm and endterm exams, which are class-tested several times.

Book Synopsis Security and Resilience of Control Systems by : Hideaki Ishii
Download or read book Security and Resilience of Control Systems written by Hideaki Ishii and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-22 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises a set of chapters that introduce various topics pertinent to novel approaches towards enhancing cyber-physical measures for increased security and resilience levels in control systems. The unifying theme of these approaches lies in the utilization of knowledge and models of the physical systems, rather than an attempt to reinvigorate conventional IT-based security measures. The contributing authors present perspectives on network security, game theory, and control, as well as views on how these disciplines can be combined to design resilient, safe, and secure control systems. The book explores how attacks in different forms, such as false data injections and denial-of-service can be very harmful, and may not be detected unless the security measures exploit the physical models. Several applications are discussed, power systems being considered most thoroughly. Because of its interdisciplinary nature—techniques from systems control, game theory, signal processing and computer science all make contributions—Security and Resilience of Control Systems will be of interest to academics, practitioners and graduate students with a broad spectrum of interests.
