Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine waking up one morning and nothing seems to be going right. You can't get your hair just right, can't find matching shoes, or someone finished your favorite cereal. The list goes on and on. And then it seems like for the rest of the day, nothing goes right. We all have experienced it. But most of the time, these mishaps could have been avoided simply by getting up on time and learn to not get so distracted with the unimportant things in our schedule. This is called dillydallying around. In this book you will see how a young little girl named Callie earns her nickname "Dillydally Callie." Callie just can't seem to get a break in anything she does. From not getting the help she needs from a parent to help her with her hair or being late at the table means not getting fresh warm food or any at all. Then the cycle continues at school. It makes for a long frustrating and exhausting day, especially for a small child. Many of us adults sometimes forget in our own busy lives that children have the same frustrations in life and continue to need our help. Children need to be taught the simple concept of time and how it can make a big difference in our day-to-day activities. It took Callie going through a lot of frustration to finally decide that being on time meant getting the help she needed or getting a better seat in class or in the car. She finally realizes that caring more about things meant that life can go much smoother and fun.

Book excerpt: A growing interest in political Islam, also called Islamism, has assumed significant ideological and intellectual dimensions especially in recent years. Rather than viewing it as Islam versus the rest, or tradition against modernity, this volume, without overlooking the tensions, also acknowledges the mutualities. It centres on issues such as the Rushdie affair, conflictive pluralism in South Asia and its linkages with the crucial regional themes like the Kashmir dispute, Iranian revolution, civil war in Afghanicstan and Western public diplomacy.

Book excerpt: Katie Warren didn't want her husband to die— not really—but he did. A year later, Katie is plagued by guilt for wishing him dead and by the anger she still harbors toward him for betraying her. She has given up her volunteers gigs, called a cease-fire in the pageant war between her daughter and mother and has begun, sadly, to neglect even her most prized possession: her looks. Cross Springs has given Katie all the grieving time it can spare. She is pressured to run a new church program and the save Women's League’s annual fundraiser—punishment for leading every group she ever joined and doing a great job. Her best friend is throwing single men at her—punishment for being forty-five and still having a tiara-worthy face. Worst of all, her every move is once again headline news on the local gossip blog. She has no idea what that is punishment for. Knowing she can't move on with her new life until she gets closure on her defunct one, she pokes into her husband's mysterious affair. Her sleuthing is hampered by her meddling mother, her rebellious daughter, Cross Springs (where nothing is as it seems) and the anonymous blogger. What her probing turns up about her husband makes her realize she has lived life according to what others expected of her sash-and-scepter self and only expected what they were willing to give her in return. But life has changed and Katie finds out she has, too. She decides to take some chances, claim happiness for herself and put a stop to the Tiara Wars once and for all—on her terms.

Book excerpt: Tamas Vekerdy, one of the most well-known Hungarian psychologists, called Credo an 'essential insight not just into Feldmar's life but into the world and the era that we currently live in.' Feldmar was three and a half years old when the Arrow Cross came and took his mother to Auschwitz, his father to labour service, and his grandmother to the ghetto. A young Catholic woman hid him for a year and a half - perhaps she inspired Feldmar to become the kind stranger in many other people's lives years later. Feldmar was sixteen in 1956 when the revolution was crushed, and he escaped from Hungary to Canada all by himself. He fled from bleak prospects and a controlling, critical mother into the unknown. He ended up in Toronto, Canada, and became an academic. In the early 1970s, he met the person who radically changed his thinking: R. D. Laing. The book's longest chapter, 'Journal Entries', comes from notes Feldmar took in 1974-1975 when he studied with Laing in London. He adds notes and remarks in the present to the past, increasing the tension in the already fascinating passages. Following this is the text of an important conversation with Laing, covering topics such as love, therapy, and change. Next is a paper by his lifelong friend Francis Huxley, 'Shamanism, Healing, and R. D. Laing'. The book concludes with perhaps its most influential chapter, 'Fantasy and Reality'. Here, Feldmar speculates on the fundamental elements of his approach to psychotherapy: the nature of responsibility and ethics, politics, freedom, individuality, community, solidarity, will, and relationships. The bond between Feldmar and Laing permeates every page of Credo. The reader can closely follow Feldmar's remarkable journey of how their relationship shaped his therapeutic approach and helped him develop into the radical and inspirational psychotherapist he is today. This book is essential reading for all psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, and fans of R. D. Laing.
