Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wird die Problematik der Digitalisierung in der Schule grundsätzlich diskutiert. Hierfür wird zunächst theoretisch erläutert, was unter dem Begriff Medienkompetenz zu verstehen ist und wie dieser Begriff in der wissenschaftlichen Fachliteratur definiert wird. Zudem rückt in diesem Zusammenhang auch die Frage der Aktualität in den Vordergrund. Anschließend wird erörtert, wie digitale Medien in den Unterricht zu implementieren sind und welche Fragen und Probleme mit dem Einsatz digitaler Medien verbunden sind. Im zweiten Abschnitt werden spezielle Lernsoftwares vorgestellt, die sich auf die vorgestellten Lernsoftwares sowie auf die verschiedenen, damit entwickelten Kompetenzen beziehen. Im dritten Abschnitt werden die verschiedenen Lernprogramme kritisch diskutiert und relativiert, indem nicht nur die Stärken, sondern auch bestimmte Schwächen dieser Programme aufgezeigt werden. Das Zeitalter der Digitalisierung erreicht mit großen Schritten auch die Schule. Während in den meisten Unternehmen die fortschreitende Digitalisierung eine immer wichtigere Rolle einnimmt, ist man im schulischen Alltag noch skeptisch, ob und wenn ja, wie digitale Medien im Unterricht einzusetzen sind. Dennoch fordern immer mehr Unternehmen, dass ein digitaler Anpassungsbedarf in der schulischen und akademischen Bildung erfolgt, damit sich die SuS nach der Schule als Beschäftigte in der sich kontinuierlich verändernden Arbeitswelt besser zurechtfinden und eine gewisse Flexibilisierung entwickeln können. Im Zentrum der schulischen Verantwortung im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung steht damit ein guter Umgang mit modernen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien und dem Internet als berufliches Medium. Nicht nur Unternehmen fordern ein diesbezügliches Umdenken in der Schule, sondern auch immer mehr Politiker beschäftigen sich mit dieser Thematik und wollen, dass digitale Medien auch in der Schule fester Bestandteil des schulischen Alltags sind.

In Finite Media Sean Cubitt offers a large-scale rethinking of theories of mediation by examining the environmental and human toll exacted by mining and the manufacture, use, and disposal of millions of phones, computers, and other devices. The way out is through an eco-political media aesthetics, in which people use media to shift their relationship to the environment and where public goods and spaces are available to all. Cubitt demonstrates this through case studies ranging from the 1906 film The Story of the Kelly Gang to an image of Saturn taken during NASA's Cassini-Huygens mission, suggesting that affective responses to images may generate a populist environmental politics that demands better ways of living and being.
