Book excerpt: Medical practice and research are inconceivable today without electronic computing and communication tools. Digital machines do many tasks orders-of-magnitude better, faster and more accurately than humans. Still, there are functions critical to the healthcare endeavor that people do much better than machines, things like: understanding and using natural language; perceiving what is unexpressed; taking into account values, culture, ethics, and human relationships; touching and healing. For the foreseeable future, the "smartest" computers will be no match for human beings when it comes to performing these most anthropic functions. American healthcare is at a critical juncture. Providers and patients are increasingly frustrated by degradation of the human relationships that lie at the core of the medical practice. Technologies, such as the computerized medical record, get much of the blame for intrusion into the patient-provider relationship. However, it is not technology itself that is to blame. The fault lies with how systems are conceived, designed, and deployed. This book analyzes how to organize the work of healthcare in a way that uses machines to do what they do best, thereby freeing humans to do what we do best. Smart use of electronic technology is crucial to the success of any bid to fulfill the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s triple aim to make healthcare more effective, efficient, and humane.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written following the death of both of my parents. I was fortunate to have spent time with both of them before they died, and was with each of them at the time of their death. Love was the foundation of our relationship, but it is also true that the relationship with each parent was complex, and that there were unresolved feelings after they passed away. We each cope with loss differently. In my case, the loss was accompanied by a fl are up of nerve pain from an old injury that I can only describe as searing, burning, penetrating and relentless. I chose the title, Digital Healing , because as a digital artist I found peace in the process of creating even when in pain. I have also found a community of like-minded artists and socially conscious individuals with whom I have been able to share my work on Facebook. Some say that there are creative urges within each of us. These urges have led me to a path toward healing through digital art, exploring . . . colors and movement. Using the computer as my paintbrush, I found a way to look at challenging events in my own past, go back and retouch those narratives with color and light, and move forward. I hope you enjoy the images and poetry, and even more, that you fi nd your our own journey of healing. Namaste .

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does distance healing work? If you have a concept of how a smart phone works you can understand how distance healing works. There is no cord connecting you to the other person, but the evidence is there because you are having a conversation on your phone. We are connected through the sea of quantum fields around us to others by our Light, just like the smart phone. My name is a Light signature and the more I connect the name Alexandra to other Light signatures their Light will sync to mine. You can access Light signatures of others by speaking the encodement of their name (signature). We establish many links in the Field with other's Light signatures when we connect verbally as well as by our thoughts. Those we live with have the strongest Light connection. We have trouble getting over a lost love because of all the strands of Light between us. These strands of Light must be released before we can successfully move into the Light field of another partner. When technology and spirituality get married they give birth to Miracles. Miracles happen in the Field as we distance heal another's Light by allowing the other Light connection to correct. We as the healer are there for the healing to take place; we are the observer in the quantum field. God is the healer! Our belief that healing is possible allows the miracle to happen.

Do you feel as if you are running on empty? Have you fallen asleep to the glory of God and his love being revealed to you each day? Bestselling and award-winning author and popular YouTuber Emily Wilson Hussem has been there too. She invites you on a year-long transformational journey of practicing gratitude, becoming more closely aware of God’s presence in your every day and serving others in his name. These fifty-two reflections will help you cultivate a deeper prayer life, find freedom from the frenzy of tasks and the noise of the culture, and discover the lasting joy that can only blossom in a heart awakened to the beauty of God’s quiet, loving presence. Awaken My Heart is an invitation to become aware of the presence of God in your life. Emily Wilson Hussem provides a road map for replacing busyness and distraction with intentional moments of noticing God’s abiding love and practicing gratitude for his many gifts—big and little blessings such as a visit from a friend, a call from your sister, the laughter of your children, a setting sun, or crumbs on the floor. These fleeting moments and everyday happenings can seem insignificant, but when you behold them with intention and thank God for making them possible, you’ll find yourself in regular conversation with Jesus, the lifeblood of your deep connection with God. This fifty-two-week devotional blends spiritual insights, authentic vulnerability, and wise guidance for women of every age who want to have a heart fully awakened to God’s presence and the beautiful bouquet of blessings he’s put in your life. The reflection for each week includes a specific focus for the upcoming seven days. With stories, challenges, and insights into scripture, each reflection is designed to draw you deeper into awareness of Christ’s love and the love he is calling you to share with the world. Wilson Hussem also offers practical ways to choose to love—visiting the elderly, calling your mom, or pausing to pray for a special intention—that are simple enough for even the busiest lifestyle. How and when you use the devotional is completely flexible: You can start on any day of the week and return to it as often as you need to. Each week’s focus is designed to draw you deeper into the heart of God by learning to love Jesus, others, and yourself more fully.

Book excerpt: This book presents state of the art knowledge on new techniques and materials that can improve functional and aesthetic results in wound healing while reducing invasiveness, based on the author's extensive personal experience. The aim is to equip the practitioner with all the information required in order to select a strategy that will accelerate wound healing and minimize both the risk of complications and scar formation after the wound has fully healed. The opening chapters set the stage by providing an overview of wound healing, including brief descriptions of the anatomy of the skin, the wound healing process, and advanced wound dressings. A full description follows of the various methodologies employed in repairing acute wounds with the goal of achieving optimal functional and cosmetic outcomes while utilizing the safest and least invasive method. Treatment protocols that have proven successful in closing nonhealing and/or delayed healing chronic wounds are then presented. In addition, a chapter addresses aesthetic procedures using advanced technology in wound healing. The closing chapter presents author’s experience with the establishment a hospital wound dressing team. The text is supported by 1,411 full color photos. Since the publication of the second edition, there have been many notable advances in wound healing research. The third edition is expanded and updated to reflect the advancements and new information. Key revisions include new chapters and/or sections on recently developed dressings such as a bioelectric dressing, a fluorescence imaging device of bacteria, usefulness of fibrin glue to support wound healing, graft of 3D-printed micronized adipose tissue, significance of skin hydration level for wound healing, novel staged excision technique to reduce scar length, newly developed risk scoring system to predict wound healing outcomes in diabetic patients, expanded coverage of cell therapy, new devices such as extracorporeal shock wave therapy, and automated SVF cell isolation system.
