Ist im Kontext dieser Arbeit von der Gewalt zwischen den Eltern und dem Miterleben von den Kindern der Gewalt in der Familie die Rede, richtet sich der Fokus insbesondere auf die Kinder, die unter der Gewalt gegen die Mutter durch den Vater leiden. Grund dafür ist, dass es in Partnerschaften überwiegend zu der Gewalt gegen Frauen, ausgeübt durch den männlichen Partner, kommt und viele Kinder dadurch mitansehen müssen, wie ihre Mutter misshandelt wird. Im Leben eines jeden Menschen spielt die Familie eine sehr wichtige Rolle. Familie sollte für jedes Kind ein sicherer Hafen sein; ein Ort, an dem Kinder Liebe, Fürsorge, Schutz und Geborgenheit erhalten. Doch dies entspricht leider nicht der Realität aller Kinder und viele Kinder erleben Familie als ein soziales Gebilde, das von Gewalt, Vernachlässigung und Lieblosigkeit geprägt ist. Die Tatsache ist, dass unzählige Kinder Gewalt in der Familie miterleben und zum Opfer häuslicher Gewalt werden. Plötzlich wird die Institution Familie zu einem Ort der Angst, an dem kein Schutz für das Kind mehr zu finden ist, was gravierende Auswirkungen hat. Viele Menschen denken zuerst an die Gewalt in Partnerschaften erwachsener Personen, insbesondere die Gewalt gegen Frauen durch ihre männlichen Partner, wenn sie an häusliche Gewalt denken. Jedoch findet innerfamiliale Gewalt auch in anderen Beziehungskonstellationen statt. Häusliche Gewalt umfasst hauptsächlich zwei Arten von Gewalt: die Gewalt zwischen Beziehungspartnern und die generationsübergreifende Gewalt, zu der es im Allgemeinen zwischen Eltern und Kindern kommt. Insbesondere Kinder werden Opfer von familialer Gewalt und dennoch oft als Opfer vergessen.

Die Institution Familie bereitet auf das Leben vor, es bildet das erziehungsbedürftige Kind bestenfalls zu einem Ich-starken und selbstbewussten Individuum. Ohne Erziehung der älteren Generation wäre es dem Tode geweiht. Es lernt durch Mutter und Vater als Vorbild, seine eigene Rolle in der Gesellschaft zu finden. Bröckelt diese Institution, so steht die ganze Persönlichkeit des Kindes auf wackeligen Beinen. Wird das Kind Zeuge von häuslicher Gewalt oder gerät es sogar mitten hinein, so verwandelt sich das eigentlich behütende Heim in einen Ort der Angst. Sind solche Zustände nicht nur einmalig, sondern kommen regelmäßig vor, sind die Auswirkungen beträchtlich. Dass dies aber leider der Fall ist, belegt eine repräsentative Studie aus dem Jahr 2004, bei welcher 10.000 Frauen nach ihren Gewalterlebnissen in Partnerschaften befragt wurden. Demnach erlebten 25% von ihnen mindestens einmal Gewalt durch einen männlichen Beziehungspartner, zwei Drittel davon mehr als nur einmal. 50% aller befragten Frauen lebten zu dem Zeitpunkt mit Kindern zusammen und gaben an, die Kinder hätten die Gewaltausbrüche überwiegend miterlebt. So hatten 57% der Kinder die Gewalt gehört, 50% von ihnen hatte sie gesehen und 21% gerieten selbst mit hinein.1 10% der Kinder wurden sogar direkt angegrien. Des Weiteren wird angegeben, dass die Kinder zumeist sehr lange mit der Gewalt konfrontiert werden, da sie, wenn überhaupt, erst mit Trennung vom Partner endet. Auch wenn die Misshandlung der Mutter der häugste Kontext von Kindesmisshandlung ist, soll dies nicht Thema der Arbeit sein. Ich möchte besonders auf die Auswirkungen solcher Fälle eingehen, bei denen die Kinder Gewalt gegen die Mutter miterlebten.

Doch leider haben nicht alle Kinder das Glück eine gesunde Beziehung zu ihren Eltern zu pflegen. Stattdessen erfahren sie physische und psychische Gewalt, sexuellen Missbrauch oder Vernachlässigung. In dieser Studienarbeit soll daher nun das Augenmerk auf eben jene Kinder gerichtet werden, die eine deviante Beziehung zu ihren Eltern aufweisen und Opfer von häuslicher Gewalt sind. Dass natürlich auch Elternteile Opfer von häuslicher Gewalt sein können und deren Kinder dadurch direkt oder indirekt betroffen sind steht außer Frage, soll aber aus Kapazitätsgründen nicht Bestandteil der Ausführungen sein. Ziel ist es, Gewalt in Familien insbesondere gegenüber Kindern mehr in den Fokus zu stellen und die Mehrdimensionalität dieser Problematik zu erläutern.

Erfahrungen mit Gewalt in der Familie, wie sie Amela gemacht hat, kommen heutzutage öfters vor, als man meinen möchte. Immer häufiger werden hauptsächlich Frauen und Kinder geschlagen und missbraucht. Aber das Thema der häuslichen Gewalt war, ist und wird ein heikles Thema bleiben, ein Tabu-Thema, vor dem die Gesellschaft bis vor Kurzem am liebsten die Augen verschlossen hätte, da es sich für sie eher um ein privates als um ein öffentliches Problem handelte. Tatsächlich hat sich das Thema „Gewalt in der Familie“ erst im 20. Jahrhundert „von einer privaten Frage, ..., zu einem sozialen Problem [gewandelt], das verstärkt in den Blickpunkt der Fachwelt, der Öffentlichkeit und der Politik geriet“ (Gelles, 2002, S.1043). Was man nun konkret unter häuslicher Gewalt versteht und welche Auswirkungen diese speziell auf Kinder hat, soll im Folgenden gezeigt werden.
