Woher kommen die Konstruktionen von Geschlechterklischees und dem Geschlecht im Allgemeinen und welche Folgen hat das bereits auf Madchen und Jungen in der Schule? Im Folgenden soll die Konstruktion von Geschlecht erklart werden, genauer die soziale Konstruktion von Geschlecht. Hierfur werden zum einen die Aspekte der Biologie (sex) und der Gesellschaft (gender) angefuhrt, sowie eine Studie zur Geschlechtsumwandlung von Transsexuellen von Harold Garfinkel. Weiter ausgefuhrt wird die Konzeption durch West/Zimmermann und ihrem Modell des Doing Gender. Auerdem wird die Gleichbehandlung der Geschlechter in der Schule analysiert, respektive die Auswirkungen der sozialen Konstruktion von Geschlecht auf Schulerinnen und Schuler. Die Untersuchungen der Geschlechterkonzeptionen in der Schule umfasst besonders geschlechtsspezifische Schulleistungen und Kurswahlen, Bedeutung der Lehrkrafte und die Selbstkonzepte der Schulerinnen und Schuler.

So titelte die Zeit in ihrem Onlineauftritt „Sei, was du willst“ und beschreibt in einem Artikel die umstrittene Idee: „Egalia ist die umstrittenste Vorschule Schwedens. Ihr Ziel: Eine geschlechtsneutrale Erziehung. [...] Jedes Kind soll sich so entwickeln, wie es möchte, und sich nicht durch geschlechtsspezifische Stereotypisierungen in der Erziehung und die Erwartungen der Gesellschaft in eine bestimmte Rolle gedrängt fühlen.“ (Zeit Online GmbH (Hrsg.)). Das Konzept führte zu einem ausgedehnten Diskurs über die Möglichkeiten einer geschlechtsneutralen Erziehung, stieß jedoch ebenso auf große Ablehnung. Es stellt sich die Frage, ob und in welchem Umfang Kindern eine Geschlechtsidentität aufgezeigt werden soll. Dazu ist es interessant, einen Blick in die Schulen zu werfen und zu untersuchen, wie dort mit Geschlecht umgegangen wird. Dabei ist vor allem das Konzept des Doing Gender von besonderer Bedeutung und in vielerlei Hinsicht einer genaueren Forschung wert. Die zwei in dieser Arbeit dargestellten empirischen Studien behandeln genau dieses Konzept des Doing Gender und untersuchen, wie und ich welchem Ausmaß das Geschlecht in der Schule sozial konstruiert wird. Dazu dienen die Vorstellung von Doing Gender und dessen Bedeutung in der Jugend sowie eine kurze historische Rekonstruktion von Gleichstellung in der Bildung als Überblick, bevor im Hauptteil auf die Studien mit ausgewählten Beispielen eingegangen wird. Nach einem Vergleich der unterschiedlichen Forschungsarbeiten wird ein bündiges Fazit gezogen.

Nachfolgend werden die Auswirkungen der Reproduktion von Zweigeschlechtlichkeit und somit die Konsequenzen für die pädagogische Praxis im Unterricht dargestellt und anschließend in einem Fazit diskutiert. Durch die mangelnde Thematisierung geschlechtlicher Vielfalt, werden binäre Geschlechterrollen sowie Heterosexualität zur Norm in Schulen. Zwar wurden bereits viele Fortschritte erzielt, nichtsdestotrotz sind traditionelle Geschlechterrollen noch immer tief in der Gesellschaft verankert.

Ob in Buchform oder TV- Showformaten, ' doing gender' scheint seinen Reiz nicht verloren und damit Konjunktur zu haben. Im Ergebnis stärkt eine solche Auseinandersetzung gängige, stark typisierende Geschlechterrollen und lässt erforderliche Ausgewogenheit vermissen. Trotz der Tradition der Geschlechterforschung, aus dem kritischen Feminismus der 1960er und 1970er Jahre hervorgegangen, ist die Beschäftigung mit Fragen der Entstehung gesellschaftlicher Unterschiede auf Basis des Geschlechts aktuell. Die biologische Rückführung des Geschlechterunterschiedes ist auch nach Jahrzehnten der Auseinandersetzung noch gängige Praxis. Der biologistischen Sichtweise wird in dieser Arbeit eine konstruktivistische Auffassung entgegengehalten, die aufzeigt, dass Geschlecht samt seiner Brisanz im sozialen Miteinander erzeugt wird.

Anschließend werden verschiedene Erklärungsansätze und Ursachen für die Geschlechtsunterschiede erläutert. Im Fokus des letzten Kapitels steht der Weg zu einer geschlechtergerechten Schule durch eine gendersensible Pädagogik. Es wird aufgezeigt, wie Geschlechtsunterschiede vermieden und somit eine Geschlechtergerechtigkeit hergestellt werden kann. Hierbei wird neben den Herausforderungen für die Lehrkräfte, auch auf die Chancen und Potenziale, die sich durch eine Gleichstellung der Geschlechter ergeben, eingegangen. Der Abschluss der Arbeit bildet das Fazit mit einem kurzen Ausblick auf die Pädagogik der Zukunft.
