Es ist noch heute nicht eindeutig geklärt, ob Lehrer eine vollständig autonome Stellung einnehmen oder sich in einer Zwischenstellung befinden. Als eines der wichtigsten Merkmale der Professionalisierung gilt die Autonomie. Sie ist ein entscheidender Faktor bei der erfolgreichen Entstehung professioneller Berufe. Dabei muss die Differenzierung der Lehrertypen beachtet werden, denn die Befugnis zur selbständigen Regelung der eigenen rechtlichen und sozialen Verhältnisse blieb Volkschullehrern lange Zeit verwehrt. Gleichzeitig stellt sich überhaupt die Frage, ob einzelne Lehrerstände von heute autonome Felder verwalten. Daher bleibt es unabdingbar, die jeweiligen Professionalisierungen der Lehrertypen voneinander zu trennen. Vorausnehmend, dass Volksschullehrer als gänzlich unautonom galten, sind dennoch wichtige Emanzipationsbestrebungen im historischen Prozess zu verfolgen. Ohne Zweifel blicken Hauptschullehrer auf eine weitaus komplexere Berufsentwicklung zurück. Primär lagen die Gründe dafür in gesellschaftlichen und politischen Prozessen, die mehr oder minder Entwicklungen im Schulsystem bedingten, gegebenenfalls hemmten. Die Forschung setzt hierzu in den frühen Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts an. Nicht zuletzt durch starke Interessengruppen, die den Professionalisierungsprozess vorantrieben, gelang schließlich die Durchsetzung des pädagogischen Berufes - Volksschullehrer. Kaum eine Berufsgruppe war so vielfältig politisch und gesellschaftlich betroffen. Durch zahlreiche Einflüsse aus Politik und Ökonomie waren die deutschen Lehrer ständig gezwungen, ihre Stellung neu zu überprüfen oder gar zu korrigieren. Vor allem der schnelle soziale Wandel

Mit den vielfältigen aktuellen Herausforderungen für das Schulsystem wächst auch der Handlungsdruck, die Lehrer/innenbildung so (um)zugestalten, dass den Studierenden, Referendaren und im Beruf stehenden Lehrern und Lehrerinnen problemadäquate Kompetenzen, Handlungsoptionen und Werkzeug vermittelt werden. Gerade in letzter Zeit hat sich jedoch auch gezeigt, dass die am Reformprozess Beteiligten teilweise aus divergenten Bildungskulturen stammen. In jedem Subsystem der Lehrer/innenbildung (Hochschule, Seminar, Fort- und Weiterbildung mit ihren jeweiligen Segmentierungen) zeigen sich unterschiedlich gewachsene Kulturen. Wenn die Akteure im Sinne einer problemadäquaten, über die Grenzen der eigenen Zuständigkeit hinaus gehenden Ergebnisorientierung enger zusammenarbeiten, ist die Bezugnahme auf einen Referenzrahmen gemeinsamer Normen, Werte und Traditionen gefordert. Die Kernfrage hierbei ist: Welche Kulturen der Lehrer/innenbildung sind erforderlich, um Schüler und Schülerinnen von heute in einer strukturell im Gestern verwurzelten Schule für ein größtenteils unbekanntes Morgen auszubilden? Dabei gilt es zu hinterfragen, wie viel gemeinsame (Ausbildungs-)Kultur notwendig und möglich ist, ohne fruchtbare Subkulturen zu zerstören und diese in ihrer dynamisierenden Funktion im Wandlungsprozess auszuschalten. Ziel dieses Bandes ist es, unterschiedliche Perspektiven bzw. Teilbereiche der aktuellen Lehrerbildungsdebatte vor diesem Hintergrund und in ihrer gesamt-systemischen Bedeutung und Funktion vor- und zur Diskussion zu stellen, dabei stets möglichst konkret zu bleiben und dennoch über das Exemplarische hinauszugehen.

Book excerpt: It is nearly impossible to overestimate the significance of a professional ethos in pedagogical situations. Most theories of education understand ethos and ethical acting as belonging to the core of the pedagogical profession. Despite this evidence, remarkably few empirical studies exist on ethos. This book has three main aims: 1) to conceptualize the pedagogical ethos at the theoretical level, 2) to operationalize it systematically, and 3) to study it empirically from the trainers’ perspective but also from that of apprentices. Part 1 offers a critical discussion on different theoretical approaches of professional morality. These include theories on moral values or professional codes, virtue ethics, professional sensitivity, moral commitment, and caring. Identified communalities are combined to form a new model of professional ethos. More intensively than other existing theories, the ethos approach presented in this book stresses the content’s situational impact on decision-making and motivation. The main question guiding the instrument development, dealt with in Part 2, asks how we can distinguish professional morality from the general notion that people should be good. In order to answer this question, vocational education but also a trainer’s pedagogical duties and responsibilities are discussed. Part 3 then presents the result of two empirical studies with vocational trainers and apprentices. It offers some interesting findings for further reflection – input not only relevant for researchers but also educational institutes, professional associations, and practitioners themselves. In short: this book contributes significantly to research on professional morality as well as vocational education.
